- Footage of flooding from the Madison Junction area of Yellowstone National Park. Included is footage of the Gibbon River, Madison Junction, Firehole Falls, Firehole Swimming Area, Firehole Cascades, and Gibbon Falls. Taken on June 13, 2022. This is not an official NPS video or associated with the NPS.

I’m a park veteran. That footage is simply unbelievable. Wow.
This is the video the National Park Committee should have used when they announced the closing of the park. It would have made their action understood beyond any doubt to even those visitors who reserved overnight vacations from all corners of the globe. I don't know how long it will be closed but it was the right thing to do!. Beautiful photography ! Thank you!
The helicopter's birds eye view of the roads washed out was clear enough for us. We were planning to visit June 30th. Perhaps next year.

I had a wonderful time Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday last week. surreal to see the road washed out that I was just on when we went out for lunch on the Northgate.
A few less Chinese in our state for a few days, not a bad thing.

I',m from North Dakota. IN 2021, we had a really bad drought, everything drying up. Then this year, completely opposite, drought is gone. Even though flooding is bad and that roads were washed out there, I think having too much water is far better than too little. All that water will replenish ground water, get things greening up again and lower fire danger. Too bad the southwest can't get flows like that.

I am very happy and THANKFUL that the area is getting the amount of water that it is. We need it. This water will greatly help western Wyoming, Idaho, Oregon, and Washington.

@@kathyp1563 Not saying this freak amount of rain isn't terrible for those hit by the high water. But the drought is a much worse, slow motion disaster.
This flooding is on the east side of the continental divide. The flooding waters are flowing into the Missouri river basin, not going west.
According to my brother in Paradise Valley, who is safe, this flooding is doubly harmful in that the rain has melted lots of snow that would have provided a longer level of slightly above average flows going into the summer, and yes, I think most of the flooding is on the east side of the divide and won’t help the farmers in Idaho or points south.
We got plenty in California as well. No flooding but enough for me to stay home another week before heading out on a month long road trip.

Camped all over Yellowstone and mother nature had its day, but all will be anew when they repair the roads, etc. The western U.S needed rain and this will be shared with other states too via the river systems. Nothing like Yellowstone. We in Alabama are usually blessed with the Gulf Stream weather, so yes thank God we get rain often and do not usually have the huge forest fires they have in the western states. Nothing like waking up to a 2,000 pound Elk walking past your camper followed by a few huge bears looking for a meal, as they brush up against your camper door! Yellowstone is something most should put on their bucket list if you love nature!
And that’s exactly why I have zero plans to EVER visit Yellowstone. That bear thing. The videos are good enough for me.

@@michellegarry1872 it's very easy to enjoy Yellowstone and be safe. Camping isn't necessary to see the park and the wildlife. So much can be seen from the road. Follow the park rules and you'll have no problem.
Thank you for posting this - These are some of the areas I was interested in seeing - besides Biscuit Basin, down near the Lone Star Geyser and Kepler Cascades and Spring Creek coming off Isa Lake.
This is great footage. My family are in Red Lodge, Absarokee, and the Livingston area. They’re all dry, thank heaven!

My wife and I were there two weeks ago and the best time of our lives! What beautiful land I am still struggling to describe the beauty of this part of the country. So to hear of the flooding but the lake levels were low.

We were there this time last year my grandson worked for the summer there . He enjoyed it but did not go back this Summer . I am so Happy he decided not to go back this summer. It’s such a beautiful place I’m very happy we got to see it before this Catastrophe flooding . Sad

I was so lucky went to Yellowstone National Park on weekend of June 4th 5th 6th and pass by Montana too
Wild. Was there last summer, everything was parched.

@@sunflowers730 as I watched more videos and saw the damage to the roads and bridges, I don’t see how the roads can be opened. I would imagine that even if they are able to open some of them, the traffic would be too backed up. I guess it’s on to plan B.
There is no way the roads can be repaired in a month! There are places where there is no road left. I don’t think it’ll open for the rest of the summer. We live within 100 miles of the west entrance where we’ve never seen anything like this. It’s easy to say how beautiful it is, but there are towns downstream from the Park that are being washed away.
Have fun taking photos of the closed gates
The entire park is currently closed and all guests have been/are being evacuated, don’t expect anything to be open anytime soon as they have to evaluate the damage all across the park.

Yellowstone National Park has some of the nicest, natural flooding videos in the United States.
Swept the visitors straight out of the park, now the place is at peace.

This is a fantastic video. I'd love to see video of some of the other major waterfalls in the park. Or also what the fire hole looks like as it's going through the Upper Geyser Basin.
UPDATE ! ! !
The southern loop of Yellowstone NP opened up today, Wednesday June 22nd, at 8:00 a.m. MST. They hope to have the upper loop open in a couple of weeks. When they do open the upper loop, no driving past Mammoth Hot Springs north, nor driving past Tower Junction going east. I haven't heard about Roosevelt Lodge opening, yet it is the smallest location and usually opens for lodging/food last. If you haven't tried the restaurant there, you ought to do it at least once. They are famous for BBQ ribs and their famous beans!!!

Those Video Images are Gorgeous. Mother Nature is so Unpredictable nowadays. Drought here in California. I still remember my stay at the Grand Teton Lodge, years ago and 🐎 back riding in the Forest. Your Channel is very Calming and Terrific Video Journalism.

My folks are sitting in a condo in West Yellowstone trying to figure out what has happened to the week. I wish there were more information about what to expect the next few days.
Expect to go home........from what the park service is saying. The entire park is closed until further notice.
Many roads have been washed out, I think the roads to the east entrance were especially hard hit.
Nature doesn't always share it's plan. I know it's disappointing. Especially for those who have always dreamed of going to Yellowstone and now this. But the beauty in that part of the country isn't just contained within the borders of Yellowstone.

why not go to Grand Teton or some of the beautiful parks in Utah

Here in Santa Fe all the surrounding hiking/off road bicycle trails are closed with "indeterminate" dates for opening due to drought. This feels very much like a roller coaster and that Homo sapiens need to learn how to be flexible and accept disappointment. Someone below wrote how important this rain will be to replenish acquifers in the area--important to ALL of us.

I'd like to see some preliminary sketches.
Looking at the vegetated edge of the river, this looks like a fairly normal flood stage. Rivers need them to maintain channel health. I did hear about a bridge being taken out north of Jackson. Flooding can be very specific. Sometimes one side of a valley (downwind or south side) can flood much more than the other side. Nice vid.
It is way above normal spring runoff flooding. The confluence of the Gibbon and Firehole is a big lake.
@@ryansedgeley When the water reaches the first trees as in this video, it is showing a frequent / typical flood level. I understand other areas flooded more heavily.

Perhaps this is nature’s way of getting humans out of the area for awhile allowing the area to recover and rejuvenate. Fire and floods are messages if we could only read them.

Looks like it goes to the Missouri River.
I believe it goes to the Missouri/Mississippi and to the Snake/Columbia rivers
It goes into the wetlands for the Suckerfish. Humans bad!!!

No, it's going to the Missouri river basin.
No. The Yellowstone and its tributaries flow into the Missouri River. The major rivers of southwestern Montana, the Madison, Gallatin, and Jefferson, come together at Three Forks to form the headwaters of the Missouri River. These rivers are all east of the Continental Divide, going into the Missouri and Mississippi Rivers, and don't get anywhere near the Colorado River or Lake Mead/Lake Powell. All of this floodwater will eventually end up in the Gulf of Mexico.
