I love when it's more about a system of beliefs leading into a logical execution of one's vision, than it is about a calculated approach to rigid guidelines.

He is a true master of his craft. I'm watching The Conformist right now and I looked this up to see what the different colors represented. Thank you!

I know its trendy now to gush over Deakins... and Deakins is truly great. But who uses color better than Storaro? He is one of those masters. Like Deakins and Gordon Willis. His palette is rich and dynamic and it adds so much power and emotion to all his images.

      This is pretty unfair imo
It's like comparing Freddy Mercury with Kurt Cobain both of them are masters but they are different, Roger Deakins style are mostly naturalistic while Storraro are more geared towards style
None of them are any better or worse

There's such beauty in exploring the energy of light, how it falls, the emotions it evokes, and the colours that lie within it.
Sometimes when shooting the strive for perfection makes me focus more on the technical than the art. Then i hear Vittorio speak and I'm left in awe of his insight and motivated to explore this craft of dark & light with new eyes. Thanks for sharing.

I think what he says is learn what you learn & filter the knowledge through yourself & create.

Light is the source of a cinematographer... With light we draw image from ideas/imaginations to the screen.

I'm always concerned that adding to much color to my images. But I just watched apocolypse now the other day and seeing the clips from it in here when your watching it you don't notice how bold the colors are you just feel the mood and emotions it creates

Knowledge; it provides us with the tools to make and take the journey in our lives--to be more of who we are, to be a stronger and be more faithful to who we are. Art, technology, philosophy what ever it takes;~learn, be, and create..... And to create,,,, that is a reflection of who you are and what you wish to give, to gift, the world.

Scientifically colors mean only color. It is only intuitively through memory and the associations we build that we apply meaning to color. The grasping of color then is not only visual but interpretive as we connect our previous associations and intuitively build meaning for that color. The artist can either repeat those interpretations of color or utilize those associations to subvert and create new meaning out of color. I don't like the effort by some to apply scientific rigor or discursive principles to our appreciation of color because that is demonstrably false however I do respect one interpreting color as Storaro does hear. Just understand that what one says about color isn't set in stone it is an interpretation built from complementary interactions within an art piece, one you can support or disagree with. Ultimately to interpret color is to utilize other materials that interact with it to create meaning.
