I love that Richard is so Richard, he won’t pretend to like anything he doesn’t like just to please anyone. He’s honest! Most importantly, he does no one harm.
The writing of the narration is undeniably amazing.
It has a hint of Partridge about it.
Richard does everything. He writes, directs. It’s his show.
I think it's why it works, but with Joe lycett (who i love, don't get me wrong) less so. Richard leans into the awkward Englishman abroad thing so well, that it's adorable, and his guests are normally playing up to that by trying to either embarress him or jolly him along.
Joe comes across as too much of a party animal, so the guests have to try to calm him down, which doesn't really work as well.

I love the fact that he doesn't like football and doesn't pretend. I've never seen a football match, and the shock-horrorr of others has sometimes made me think lying would be easier. Well done Richard.

This guy is very smart yet very pretentious to a degree in which is insufferable to experience. I don't like sports either, but I intelligently understand the concept of triumphant celebration for people who have physically worked hard and risen from obscurity and poverty in most cases. To act as though it is impossible for that to be an emotional experience for a fan is to display empathetic ignorance.

But it's just not fun. Idk he makes me think of that kid in school who BELIEVES he's the smartest in the class, so he just spends every moment pretentiously trying to prove everyone else is stupid, and he's smart. It's just not fun. I like dry humor, l like intelligent humor, I love sarcasm. I just think this guy is a wet blanket and it's not really too funny. But I guess he has an appeal to some people.
I would agree with you if the footballers were paid a reasonable wage for their talents, but the fact that they are paid obscene amounts to simply kick a ball around for 90 minutes says more about our society that Richards pretentiousness. Lionel Messi earns more in a week than what an entire surgery team earns in a year, that’s the value of men & women literally saving lives for a year being paid to one man whose single talent is kicking a ball better than anyone else... and the real perversion is that he gets that money regardless of his performance on the pitch.
@@elftax I definitely think ballers are way overpaid. But people escape in entertainment, therefore it brings a high monetary value to our culture. Those surgeons that entertain like the ones on tv earn really high amounts as well. It's the entertainment industry in general that just produces so much money because of demand. They get so much money out of it from people showing up. People want to show up. It's just what our culture likes.
