  • Johnny Chang sat down with VladTV correspondent Cavario for his first-ever interview on the platform, and he started off by speaking about growing up in Los Angeles with Korean immigrants who were Chinese.
Johnny then detailed his family background, including his father being an alcoholic, and the struggles he had as a child. During the conversation, Johnny detailed committing petty crimes, including stealing, from 6 to 10, and he then spoke about the violence going on around him. From there, Johnny spoke about his early stints in jail, and joining a gang called Wah Ching, which means “Chinese youth.” Speaking more about Wah Ching, Johnny spoke about the rules within the gang, learning to make money, and learning about what would happen if he was taken to prison. This sparked a conversation about Johnny’s experiences in jail, including being threatened and becoming friends with opps after dropping gang politics. Elsewhere in the conversation, Johnny detailed a situation on the freeway that sent him back to prison, and he went on to speak about his life today. To hear more, including Johnny speaking about how he turned his life around, hit the full interview above.

This just a part of the podcast era. I understand thinking outside of the box and the difficulty in creating longform content but just in the first few minutes this man was trying to lead the guest like this was a courtroom lol. Trying to explain to him how life works instead of asking the guest how they think life works. I don't need you to explain to me how alcoholic parents can lead to alcoholism in children, just get to the effin point of your question quickly so the guest can start talking. Watch any great interviewer and their questions aren't rambling diatribes.

Johnny wanted to have a conversation of redemption and the rise from pain, anger and sorrow. But this dude just wanted to have a recollection of gang history from the 70's that Johnny could care less about at this point in his life. You can even see Johnny cringe just hearing him throw out sparce information of gang information he probably got from watching UA-cam.

This comment is SPOT ON. ---I hate when interviewers start making the interview about themselves. Nobody cares to hear about what the interviewer pretends to know and speak on... which is WHY the interviewer should shut up and hear the facts from a person who WAS involved. This interviewer should watch The Jocko Podcast as Jocko ALWAYS lets his guest speak and never interrupts. VLAC really messed up on this one by not interviewing Johnny himself. I hope that this was an honest mistep and not because Johnny and/or asian stories/topics might not get evough clicks/views so he got sidelined. Good thing theres better vids of Johnny veing interviewed by other channels that really let Johnny talk and share much appreciated info on his life.

You are such a present and blessing to this world! I have a good friend that has no hope, and is talking really stupid about leaving the planet, and I cannot figure out how to get through to him without being to preachy. He is involved in the streets again, and his thought process is just all messed up, and has no hope! I am going to try and send him some of your videos, and ask him to watch them with an open mind and an open heart! I feel like you are answering so many questions I have been trying to figure out to be helpful to my friend who has no hope! God Bless!❤

That IS serious ! It can be really hard to make it happen ,but it sounds like your friend needs professional help. Try to find someone you know they admire and respect to convince them. Your friend is suicidal. edit "suicidal ideation" is a classic symptom of depression. A serious, life threatening condition at that level.

@@allenh7835 Thank You for your insight! I will do that. I have been trying to figure out who he can look up to, his mom is on Drugs, and his dad actually Took his own life when he was 16. So that’s why the idea is so strong in his head, because that’s how his dad (the only person you can tell he truly looked up to, and took his life because of a woman) handled his problem when he was struggling. I try to point out the fact that if he did that, his two wonderful sons (age like 13 and 19) would be immediately thrown into the same life and struggles that he has faced his his whole life! Him and I were also forced to do 2 years of intense therapy and groups because of some trouble we got in, and he was on the right path when we were doing that, but it’s like he forgot everything they taught us. I know he knows the benefits of professional help, but it’s like he won’t do it because he knows it will help! Very self loathing and self destructive! Thank you again for your insight and suggestions. I’m definitely would be open to hearing some more of you have any! 😊❤🙏

@@TheOddOddishI have been there. It's extremely hard to admit to anyone, even a doctor. A huge relief though because MOST, not all have empathy. Once they get all the background info for a diagnosis, most will explain what causes it and best treatment. Odds are your friends is clinical depression ( aka chemical imbalance) and genetics passed from his Dad. Sounds like he lives in a high stress, violent enviroment. Seeing that through a depression filter can make it unbearable and much worse. Trust me, professional help is his only chance. People with suicidal thoughts are unpredictable ! Depression can come and go, but clinical depression almost always returns if not treated. The correct treatment can be different from one person to the next. A GOOD doctor/therapist is really important. It pays to ask around. If ,no matter what, he refuses, not much you can do but try to have patience and listen. Not preachy is wise, advice usually falls on deaf ears. You sound like a good friend but if he ever flat out threatens suicide, call 911. Too many learn the hard way, it wasn't a attention seeking bluff ! I really hope your friend does get help. He doesn't have to be tortured by depression, some treatments save lives ! btw Mine turned out to be genetic clinical from both parents. Clinical has a life of its own and can be moderate for a few months, go away and come back severe to the point of being bedridden. Zoloft helped a lot the first time i got help but each person can need another type treatment. Your friend is very fortunate to have you for a friend. Good luck with everything ! edit His Dads suicide, SEEMS to be over a woman. The pure misery and torture of depression only needs a stressfull situation added to the mix to push someone to actually taking their life. Most just want relief from the torture.

I hate to be a hater and I've tried to sit through some of the other DJ Vlad interviews that this Cavario guy has done but it's too difficult to listen to him ramble, stumble and cut the interviewee off. It's frustrating to watch and listen to. Obviously he will hopefully get better with time but I don't know if I have the patience to watch him learn the art of interviewing people alongside him. If it was his channel and it was just starting it would be whatever but Vlad has built a channel where the audience is expecting a certain level of ability in this area which Cavario just doesn't have at this point. Like I said I didn't want to have my comment be about this particular issue and I have watched a few of the interviews he has done on Vlad TV so this isn't based on just this one. You can tell Cavario has knowledge regarding this life but by stumbling and not being as polished as possible it comes across as he only has a knowledge that anyone could obtain from UA-cam videos. Long story even longer, he needs more experience and professionalism before he is on a channel this big or there will continue to be comments like mine and from the looks of things many others. Anyways, to bad because this could of been really good
As I watch further he also gets a little disrespectful at a points. He behaves this way with someone that hasn't reformed like Johnny and they may not be as friendly with an arrogant interviewer. Vlad needs to rethink this guy

I hate when interviewers start making the interview about themselves. Nobody cares to hear about what the interviewer pretends to know and speak on... which is WHY the interviewer should shut up and hear the facts from a person who WAS involved. And pleaseee ask questions that the guest can speak on and NOT ask about history stuff from the 70's that the guest clearly wouldnt be able to speak on. The interviewer clearly missed the mark on topics that are relevant DURING johnnys timeline. Smh. This interviewer should watch The Jocko Podcast as Jocko asks great discovery questions and ALWAYS lets his guest speak and never interrupts. VLAD really messed up on this one by not interviewing Johnny himself. I hope that this was an honest mistep and not because Johnny and/or asian stories/topics may possibly not get evough clicks/views so he got sidelined to a rookie interviewer. Good thing theres better vids of Johnny being interviewed by other channels that really let Johnny talk and share the much more appreciated info on his life and journey. Much respect to Johnny for turning his life around and helping others.

Calling the older brother thing is NOT Chinese Culture. That's mostly the Korean Culture. I never had a friend that gets beat for calling his older brother by name. USA or China, especially the American Chinese. The American Chinese usually call their brother by their English name. Korean Culture is more demanding than Chinese lol.

I use to get my ass beat by 4 damn people in my family. Only reason they stopped, i grew up n started fighting back. To this day, i hate all my family. They are just not good people, bad heart. They do terrible things to people, me too my whole life n dont care. I feel it in myself as well, to do bad things to people for my benefit, but i fight it. When people get hurt, in my mind, its like a feeling of not caring, but i sit there n make myself feel for them. I try to do good, but in a family of bad people, its very difficult n i have suffered greatly.

Don't give up fighting. The fact that you recognize the treatment you endured was wrong, and you try not to treat others the same way, even though you have every reason to, means you have a heart and conscience. You'll reap so many benefits and blessings by treating people kindly. Even if you get burned, they always get burned worse, and you'll notice the great things that happen to you regularly. I promise, and I'm sorry you went through what you did.
