Although not mentioned in the video. If you got this far and the solenoid "went South" due to old age and a lot of use and abuse. It´s reasonably to assume the remaining starter components also payed it´s toll.
So, check the carbon brushes and the tolerance of the bushings in that starter. It cost "pennies" to replace and it¨s damn easy while you have it in your hand. Same for cleaning (rubbing alcohol) and lube So it just make sense. ;-)
On older designs, before they sealed everything to avoid repairs and make you buy a new one every time. ;-)
The solenoid can be disassembled and the pitted contact surfaces can be rectified/flattened and put back into service for many years to come. On some you can simply turn the contact plate and use the previously untouched face. Usually last for a really long time.
Some forks can also be turned and be kept in service for long. ;-)
    Cheers all

Thank you very much for the video. I didn't have my solenoid connected properly to the starter and now, thanks to your video, it's working like a champ! Keep up the good work.

What about the voltage transducer mechanism under the ring assembly? This is obviously a pre 1988 metric replacement or later model with the Breton module.

Thanks HoyeTractor, I had got the spring the wrong way around so the dog gear was not working properly, but thanks to you it is now.

I have a yanmar Diesel engine in my Daewoo skid steer it needs a solenoid the stud in the solenoid is loose and melted itself and the nut and it won't tighten up it looks like the one in this video I need to get a new one I'm tired of jumping it over especially hard in cold weather and afraid of it completely burning into or burning the starter up.

Hi - thanks for the video. I have a 86 Yanmar 336D and the tractor had sat under a lean to for about 2 years. I put a new 650 CCA battery in it and when turning key to start position nothing happens, no cranking turning over or anything. I'm not the greatest at troubleshooting electrical systems so any help on what to start with would be greatly appreciated. I have a multi-meter and am thinking I would test the starter switch on solenoid first?? I'll shut up, any advice would be greatly appreciated :)
    Thanks,
