Thanks Jamie, a lovely informative video showing Borealis in her true colours. Have been on Balmoral twice and enjoyed it very much. Going on Borealis next month from Dover to the Norwegian fjords. Looking forward to it. Such fantastic staff and service always given by the company. Keep up the videos please!
Loved your tour. It certainly did Fred Olsen justice . My Mum and I were on board and it was fabulous. My first time on board Fred Olsen in 35 years (on board the Black Prince then). Memory lane and what a wonderful time we had on this Borealis cruise.
Hi Jamie, this ship looks amazing, we had been told that Fred Olsen ships were very old and outdated. This vlog is definitely making me think about looking at a Fred Olsen cruise. Thank you so much for your vlogs, love them.
I worked on this ship for 3 months as a musician on it's inaugural cruise in 1997. It was then the MS Rotterdam for Holland America. I love that it has found new life with Fred Olson and it looks like they have kept the original feel and look of this magnificent ship. The Atrium is a spectacular centrepiece and the decks are grand and spacious. Anybody who gets to sail on this ship is going to experience a classic cruise. Not too big. Beautiful style and design. I am very excited for my Mother and Stepfarther who are getting to sail on this very ship to Norway this summer.
Jamie, I spent your entire video smiling. You are delightful to watch. If I lived in the UK, I’d cruise on this ship because you did an excellent job sharing your experience. Thank you.
This was terrifically useful! My daughter and I are booked for 5 nights next May. I will definitely play this vlog again nearer the time to remind me of all the information. Cannot believe it was just 2 nights. You seemed to pack in so much. Thank you ❤
Thank you for this wonderful blog,we have had quite a few years not cruising but rethinking the whole cruising thing again ,Fred ships are very temping,P&O are vastly different to what I remember very busy so one of these weekenders might ease us back in gently, Wonderful and not to many Thank you Jesus's this time,Thank God 😁
Hi Jamie. We had just got off an 80 Day cruise with FredO this year (same ship) when I first came across you and your blogs: Love them. They are entertaining and honest and I am about to copy the link to this one to send to my children as we are taking them on a weeks cruise on the Borealis from Liverpool in the summer (including a very young grandchild!) so that they know what they are in for!!! ...perhaps not as many breakfasts, but possibly as much alcohol (no, that does not include the grandchild). We find FredO's ships a good balance , a good, smaller size, not too stuffy, but still classy, the food is good and the staff excellent, and I would recommend a world or extended cruise with them....but on a different note, yes we do cruise with other lines and I like 'nosing around 'those ships with you too.
Oh 80 days must have been wonderful! Sounds like you’re also going to have a wonderful family cruise too. Thank you for commenting and for your support also. Take care.
As I'm sure you know, that's a whistle stop tour round the world but it was based on the book...not the overland bits...but fredO is a great level of comfort to do a long cruise on, we've done it on others. One advantage of being old...ish,. Well retired
I'm not entirely sure what I expected a Fred Olsen cruise to be like, but this looks soooooo much better than I imagined 🤩 It's confirmed they are definitely a line I need to cruise on 😊thanks so much for a great vlog!
Love Borealis and almost identical ship, Bolette. Agree with Colours & Tastes, stunning food and yes the cutlery is very elegant. I wouldnt cruise on any other ships.
@@TravelBlogJamie we just booked our 2nd cruise the 1st was Arvia in March around the Caribbean thst was amazing now we’ve just booked Fred Olsen northern lights Norway on balmoral for next jan well looking forward to Norway but that 2day crossing in January not so much lol 😂
Thanks for showing us Borealis, Jamie. I always keep my cruise as short and affordable as possible but the repositioning 1s by Olsen had been cancelled in the past. I was on Balmoral to Cornwall and the Scilly in the end of May. I smuggled my Lucy as pictured on my profile as always and Freddie Olsen Bear I bought on Bolette in Aug ‘21 for his homecoming. I see you like Oriental food. We always go to the buffet on any ships but splashed out on the afternoon tea in the Observatory this time. We’ll be on Borealis in May and Ventura Sep next year, both to Amsterdam etc. Look forward to them. June
We sailed at near capacity on the Ireland cruise onboard Borealis last August - it was blissful. Always a space to lounge, eat, drink - it’s what Fred is known for
Another great video again Jamie, thank you. We are on Bolette in November - completely your fault!! Just wondered, do you know if the Heineken 0.0 (the non alcoholic lager) is included in the drinks package?? It would be handy if it was - it helps me pace myself!!
Loved watching this Jamie! Impressive apart from drinks package- I wouldn’t bother but not a huge drinker. Would rather Pay as I go. Prefer nice lattes etc and to choose!
Never been on Fred Olsen . My in laws have a few times and loved it. How much was this 3day cruise? Who do you normally book through? Was thinking of booking a short cruise for a girls weekend (not sure if we’re classed as them anymore as we are all 50-60) do you think this would be a good ship for that? Love your vlogs Jamie you always appear v natural and fun loving x
When I looked it was £89 per passenger sharing a cabin. I paid £199 as I travelled solo and chose a better cabin grade. I always book direct. There were groups of girls on this cruise having a lovely time by all accounts!
Hi Jamie, maybe not an appropriate place to ask you this question but I am travelling alone next year on the ventura and noticed on this video (Fred Olsen) when Ventura came into view I noticed that the cabin I have chosen L202 is a steel fronted balcony. I would not have known this without watching your video. Have you ever had a steel fronted? I don't know whether to see if I can change it at all. I am travelling on my own for 14 nights for my Big Birthday next March and will be spending a lot of time on the balcony. Any comments would be so welcome, I feel as though I have really messed up. Many thanks Dawn
I have, yes, and It’s absolutely fine buuuut obviously you don’t have a full sea view if you’re sat on your balcony. If that’s important to you, probably best to change?
@@TravelBlogJamie Thank you so much for your quick reply. I will give them a call tomorrow when they open. I have been binge watching all your videos this weekend and have thoroughly enjoyed myself. Thank you, all the best with your "semi-retirement" for the want of a better word. xxx

Hi Jamie thanks for your brilliant vlogs they are wonderful. I hope you can help me. We have cruised extensively over the past 21 years but have never cruised with Fred Olsen they have been recommended to us but we were told conflicting information about dressing for dinner. We don't want to pack our suits even though I've just learned to tie a bow tie. We are on the Balmoral in November and have been told the Ballindalloch, Avon & Spey Restaurants are out of bounds on formal nights, but are the other restaurants, lounges and bars restricted too? I know you can eat in the cafe, please help thank you
I don’t believe lounges / bars are restricted at all but restaurants (apart from the buffet) are restricted. I have a link for you here www.fredolsencruises.com/faqs/on-board/whats-the-dress-code-whilst-on-board
@@TravelBlogJamie Thanks Jamie, much appreciated. I had read that link info before but it doesn't explain exactly where you can and can't go. I think I might have to pack a suit anyway. It just makes me look like Richard Dimbleby, No don't ask! 🤣 Thanks again.
Do many cruise lines cruise out of Liverpool? Prefer not to use lifts. Get my 10,000 steps. Like smaller ships also. Only like to have two drinks of wine or beer usually with a meal. If it's nice out you could sit on the balcony. Maybe even have tea and a pastry there. Ah, another Fred Olsen ship. Nothing wrong with eating a lot. Breakfast on the balcony is good. Ah, table tennis. Like to play that too. Omlette's are good depending what you have in it. I take it you don't like poached eggs? Demonstration kitchen. I like food. Do the pastries cost extra too or just the coffee? You should hold the wine glass by the stem. You don't heat up the wine that way. While most ships have a flower shop, not quite like that. Do Fred Olsen Cruises have casinos on board? Have never been on a Fred Olsen cruise as yet.
Hi Jamie, love your vlogs. I've never been on a crusie, husband doesn't want to, but I may one day with girlfriends. Singing hinnies are synonymous with Northumberland, it's a type of drop scone, cooked on a griddle and can contain currants, lard etc.... they are very delicious. Xxx
We were super lucky on our first Borealis cruise. Got a Saver Fare AND it came with the Drinks Package included. A decent selection of drinks are free, some are "premium" and cost 50%
