  • We do hay differently around Harvest Hills Ranch. While many cattle ranches are using round bales (and we do some as well), we also use square bales. Square bales are more work, but find out why I think it is worth if to continue baling these smaller options for a herd our size.

that thing with the different colors in hay bales was very informative, thank you
i do not like round hay bales because you must have the space to roll them out for comfortable use

Many farmers / ranchers here in the USA......live in a primitive world. Still feeding dry hay. Ive been using balage hay now for 15 yrs. Hands down its the best and cheapest way to go !!!!! First ....no shed / cover needed.....no weather worries......cut and bale the same day..... no waste....cattle eat everything ..... can get an extra crop of hay per year because your on and off the field the same day...very little leaf loss..... the extra moisture acts as a carrier...and cattle eat less......and cattle need less water to drink. Water requirements are almost cut in half.

Even today.....hay equipment can be found cheap ! A disc bine being the most expensive followed by the baler.
I bought..... my two hay rake"s" for 400 dollars....... my 4x4 New Holland round baler for 4500 dollars......discbine for 6000 dollar ...three flat bed hay racks for 500 dollars ......tines for the loader 200 dollars. With out the tractor....thats around 12000 dollars. Most young wiper snappers spend more then that on their first truck / car. So.....I built my own bale wrapper for a mere 1500 dollars. And I dont feel any of the hay equipment is expensive !

Dr. Hill. Google a company named Ranchlands and a man named Duke Phillips. You would get along

Bahia Grass, is 90 % of the grass that grows by the Roadsides in lower SC Almost sure it's chemical free, and except for the cans, bottles, and fast food wrappers chances are is close to equal in feed value to hayfield grown bahia..... Growing Hay primarily for supply to horse customers......Bahia is a weed, thus like many other trash grasses gets eliminated from the field.....
