Thank you! Hope it helps you! Let me know if you have questions!!
Excellent class! Where can I get a shoulder rest like the one you have? I am Aclésio from Brazil.
Hello!! That is a Korkfer shoulder rest by pirastro!!
do you have a general recommendation regarding the number of fine-tuners on a viola? Thanks for this great vibrato video
That's entirely up to you! Definitely an a string tuner.. A d string tuner can also be helpful.. And.. If you think necessary.. Get a Wittner tailpiece that has all 4 tuners... It depends on many things.. If your pegs are adjusted really well.. It is easy to tune with pegs.. Some are not fitted as well and VERY difficult to turn.. Or ... They slip.. So sometimes a good peg tuneup... Or replacement can help!
You're a great teacher. Where are you located?
Hello! Thank you for that and for viewing the video! I am located in plano tx!
Professor, I find it difficult to do vibrato without my shoulder rest. Without it, my thumb stiffens and clamps to the neck as if I would drop my instrument. Is there something I could do to fix this? Thank you!
Try using a cosmetic sponge...the red kind.. It will help to keep your instrument steady!!! Also... Practice with your viola scroll against the wall to support the instrument till you figure this out!!
Does your thumb move up or down the neck depending on which finger you are doing the vibrato with?
That is one great question! If you noticed that, I continually move my thumb while I am playing to promote flexibility and fluidity. I always feel that if something is MOVING then it does not have TENSION! I should do a video about this! Thank you for your wonderful comment!
Thank you for your invaluable help sir.
I think, whole surface of fingerboard is important for fingers relax hang on it “from air”.
Great point.. I agree!!
The hardest thing to do is to stay relaxed and do the exercises
Yes..be patient and work over several months! Hang in there and you will Achieve a beautiful vibrato
This did not help
