Gaming died when the PS4 and Xbox One were released. The 360, Wii, and PS3 were the last great generation of gaming.
For Sure, My Xbone is a dujst collector and PS4 is a Fallout 4 Box, The Switch however has been pretty good.

Meh, the generation prior (the 6th gen) was better, but that's just my opinion
Gaming hasn't died. The generational leaps and closed ecosystems died. The console wars was fun though. But if you think about it, this is the best time to be a gamer. We have all of the backlogs available to us, even if you may have to resort to emulation. But I guess there's no more hype. Compare the hype of a new 7th gen console launch to a mid-gen 9th console launch. The it factor it's just not there anymore.
I just beat Cyberpunk with path tracing at 1440p 116fps average on a 77" HDR1000 tv from 4 feet away.
The absolute single best gaming experience of my entire life and like Rich, I started with the 2600 in the late 80s.
I can see why you had an editor before because this is a rough cut at best and honestly you being high out of your mind is extremely distracting. If this is the "ever green content" then...well I think you need to take a course on editing and writing.

Dude the editing and pacing is just terrible. The stream inside jokes kill it and you don’t need to just cut to the old commercials anytime a console is mentioned. Should have tone done the bad jokes for a more genuine gaming life retrospective.

Meanwhile, as a kid, outside of having a Game Boy Color as my 3rd gaming device after Super NES and Genesis, I jumped from the 4th gen to the 6th, skipping most of 5th gen outside of friends/game stores and stuff. I wanted a Nintendo 64 as a kid but never got one.
The best generation. All those consoles were great.
I noticed that too. It confused me because a lot of what he talked about really started on those consoles, such as online gaming on console. I was playing online on the Dreamcast in 1999 I think. Then I got the original Xbox and I've been on Xbox live since day one. I still have that Xbox live kit.
It's specifically his perspective, and he's stated many times before that he just wasn't playing during that generation. I think it's a little odd he didn't at least mention that here.

I understand that's what you normally do, but it's really weird when you do that with a retrospective like this. Just you sitting down and speaking at the camera would have been enough. Please consider this for future retrospectives if you plan to do more.

As someone who is 42 years old myself, I did chuckle a bit watching some of those old commercials that I grew up watching. I know you mentioned it was going to be a long video but it's already at 40+ minutes what's another 6 to 10 minutes to include the generation of the gamecube, xbox, PlayStation 2 and a mention of the handhelds including the Game Gear Game Boy and the DS, 3DS

Rich, I am not going to talk smack or be harsh, but I do agree with most commenters that you definitely need to cut out some of the editing work that you did for future videos especially ones like this. I think this video would have been much more professional and well thought out with less distractions and cuts edited into the video. Overall it was a solid piece, few minor fixes will make the next retrospective rock solid!

Great video Rich. Im 42 too and this brought back a ton of memories. I miss times being so simple.
When we had NES and SNES the developers/publishers had the pressure to make a close to perfect Golden Master, so the games were almost always perfect! And no loading time! Many of those games are still so great!
I was born in 80 myself, and the old comercials were my favorite parts, maybe the only good parts. I do agree with alot of others about the editing. Seems a bit juvinile, but I like his videos, for the most part.

This should have been a series, with a video dedicated to each generation. And sadly, the editing is poor. Rich may have not have gamed in the 6th gen, but to ignore it entirely when it was arguably one of the most important generations, devalues the project. You can do better than this Rich, please get your focus back to reviews and invest in quality. there is no future in the whole drama / lolcow scene. I'll go back even further. Dad brought home a Coleco Telstar video game console in the mid 70's. It had a steering wheel, a light pistol and it was one of the first consoles that played Pong on your TV screen. The game cartridges were triangle shaped. I also had an Atari 2600 in my teens. I worked all summer cutting lawns to buy it. My current gaming consoles are a PS5 & Series X. I'm 59 and been gaming since I was 10. I'm not planning to quit anytime soon.

6th gen didn't really represent a huge change in the games INDUSTRY. You had Sega crash and burn, but they were replaced by the equally mediocre XBOX. Thats it. Gen 5 made the jump from 2D to 3D. Gen 7 gave us DLC and usable online multiplayer. Gen 6 was still very much buy game, own game, play game.

This was a good walk down, old memory lane for me. All i can think about is me and my friends sitting down and playing the nes for the first time. We staying up all night playing these games, and trying to stay awake the next day. Now I am 45 years old and still playing games with the same friends, just now we have to go to work instead of school.
