      this, heck throw in the gpd win 4 too for good measure and then the onexfly and aokzoe a2 when they release as they also look equally compact... maybe the ayaneo slide too and then compare all the larger ones too, it would be great to really see which have the best screen, best buttons, etc go down the list comparing every aspect side by side, then i feel like one would make a more educated decision on which fits their needs best

    LoL, I watched a review for steam deck OLED, some people actually compare that to Ayaneo 2S and said they don't like Aya because the company stop support their product. And here we are, huge improvemnt to their software. Also is the Dpad on the 1S different than 2S? You gave like a B+ for the 2S' Dpad!

    Ayaneo just dropped a new BIOS that increases the RAM to 7500 MT for a couple of models, including the Geek 1S. I wonder if you have some thoughts on what sorts of effects we should expect from that.

    I'm avidly waiting for the email with the tracking number for the Geek 1S with the 1200p display that I've ordered. I was torn between this and the GPD Win 4, with a little more overtime on my job I still might spring for the Win 4.

      man i hear u they all look sick in their own way, those 2 and then ayaneo 1s with the oled, upcoming aokzoe a2, rog ally because of the 120hz vrr screen well it just irks me that others lack that feature on their screen, those are my top models i just can't decide btw and also would love to just buy them all lmao, i mean especially someone that was fond of their psp and vita it's like an automatic with the gpd win 4, it's like sony made it lol

    The recently announced Kun looks amazing. Depending on the price, I may go with that or the Ally. The Ally seems to be the best value in terms of a windows handheld. I’m seriously tempted to get the geek 1s over an Ally, but the lottery of having to pay import taxes when shipping to the UK is putting me off. That and having to send it back somehow if it fails. I can go and buy an Ally from a large retailer in the UK so I know exactly what I’d be paying. Plus where to go if there’s a problem.

    • @svenmify
      @svenmify Рік тому

      I just got my 2s, and import taxes were only $30 (Belgium). Was pleasantly surprised. Doesn’t mean it would be that reasonable for you of course.
      I do really like the device, like physically. The ayaspace software is terrible (usable but not a good experience), but I’m on version 1, so that will be improved.
      The whole experience of using windows is a little annoying, so I’m considering getting an sd card and running Chimera OS off that most of the time.

    • @markthompson403
      @markthompson403 Рік тому +1

      I think if I end up paying UK VAT, then for the Geek 1S, 32GB, 512GB SSD version it would cost around £750. Which is only £50 more than the Ally, but I get twice the memory, hall sticks and a bigger battery. So when you look at it that way, it’s not a bad deal (it’s fantastic deal if I get lucky and pay no import taxes). I guess that just leaves the question of what would happen if I have a problem with it. You’d think the way I was talking I’ve actually got a spare £750 and the use case to buy one. FOMO is a terrible thing 😂

      My issue with the Alloy is that at home in bed (at least 3/4 of my usage scenario), I'd be using it plugged in, and I don't have a single USB slot available to me when it's plugged in. Huge oversight. The SD card slot is well known to have heat issues and malfunction, so I can't even rely on that.
      Just one USB port is all I want. Incredible. The 4090 dock is 4 GRAND here in OZ, so not even an option. I'd have considered the 6850M dock, as they were blowing them out at about 1200 AUD, and would have been more cohesive all AMD setup, retaining the freesync and allowing me to play on the internal screen at 1080P ultra for any game, but they're all sold out. The 4090 dock is really only for those wanting to use an external screen, otherwise a complete waste at 1080P.
      The Ally is 1299 AUD here, 200 less than a GEEK with 32TB and 2TB storage, so, double the ram with Aya Neo (great for iGPU and OS never to get memory bottlenecked) and 4x the storage for 200 bucks. And a working SD slot lol. But I don't know what indiegogo ship will cost. Also, they have heat issues with the screen, so that's a no go too. Plus, the Ally is the only one to use a proper landscape screen, not a rotated portrait display, so zero compatibility issues with old games right out of the box.
      With the Ally I'd have local Asus warranty support, but again, 512GB SSD with no free USB slot when plugged in, and a hit or miss sd card, and 16GB ram which will get much more easily maxed out, and it really puts me off. I don't know what to do.
      I have large hands and the Ally's offset design, heavily so, really looks like it will be comfy for me also, but I don't know how to get past that lack of USB. Maybe there's some other usb c hub out there with power passthrough that can provide me some ports. Will look into it. I am just not sure what to do.
      All that said, in keeping with your OP, I think the Geek or the 2S are too much of a risk cause of the screen heat issue. I'd be taking a real punt to on comfort, as I have a feeling it won't be comfortable to hold. The offset is too mild and grips too rounded and shallow.

      @teddym2808 Рік тому

      It's possible. Well known actually that at 100% brightness at anything over 25w the screen becomes a hazard to touch, exceeding mid 50's Celsius on the surface. They have acknowledged it and say to run below 80% brightness and under 30w. Even on the 2S with its premium price. Pay for a premium device and can't use it at full speed. Screen will discolour too on the right side. Stopped me in my tracks from purchase.@@hartlytartly

      They're running the same chipset so their performance should be the same, but the Ally had significant driver issues hampering its performance compared to the Aya2S/Geek1S and especially the GPD handhelds. Unless ASUS has cleaned up drivers, the Ally isn't going to perform as well as anything with a standard 7840u.

      @@ThePhilosogamer Not even really talking about performance. Just overall experience. This just comes off as a paid showcase otherwise if there's no comparison to any other devices. Should I buy one? I don't know, you didn't compare it to anything else. Bonkers to omit it willingly considering the popularity of the Ally, so I can only imagine it was a stipulation of the agreement for a review unit and if that's the case... yikes.

      @@banboosyought I’d try help you out with my experience. I have the Ayaneo 2s and HAD the rog ally. I returned the rog ally because - it felt cheap in my hands / the proprietary e-gpu port / the lack of io ( only one usb-c port) /the worries about my sd card being broken by the rog ally. - In short, I really enjoyed it but felt like a beta tester, which I didn’t like as I thought I’d dodge that bullet by buying a big-name brand. The good - the VRR screen, support from ASUS (still bad but better than ayaneo). The Ayaneo 2s has been great for me (so far: 3 weeks of ownership) the design is nicer in my opinion, it feels premium to hold and the screen has a nicer colour profile. The software for now is worse than ASUS’ , but Ayaspace 2 should fix that. I also miss the VRR screen, but it does perform better. I get around 8-10fps more in cyberpunk. I prefer the option for 32gb RAM + larger storage capacity, as despite being a tinkerer don’t want to upgrade manually and screw the pooch somehow. Bare in mind that the geek has a different screen by default , so my comments might be irrelevant on that matter. Hope this helps in your decision-making somehow! Enjoy whatever you end up with! If you have any more specific questions feel free to ask away.

      @@Nookie94 I keep going back and forth. My heart says Geek 1s (32GB), but my conscience says I live 5 min from Best Buy so I can break the ROG Ally as much as I want. Am I overthinking it?
