Pakistani Army Viper 30mm/ATGM UP-GUNNING its M113 Gavin Light Tracked Tanks: More Firepower & Cross-Country Mobile than Crap Road/Trail-Bound, U.S. Army/Mc JLTV/Stryker Motorized INFANTtry
Maybe we should HIRE the Pakistani Army to locate, close with & destroy Islamic extremists and avoid the Stryker/JLTV road-kills that bring us U.S. flag-draped coffins and amputees flocking VA hospitals?

The document highlights the prioritization of armored [ground] platforms and air power.
Efforts toward improving armored capabilities include finding substitutions to component imports and indigenous development, specifically:
The continued rebuilding of M113-series [light tracked tank] armored personnel carriers.
A program for a tracked infantry fighting vehicle, or IFV, was also mentioned in the ministry’s document. State-owned armored fighting vehicle manufacturer HIT developed the Viper to meet this need. The static prototype was displayed at the IDEAS2018 defense expo. The platform was based on the M113 series, but was armed with a Slovak Turra 30 unmanned turret.

EVPU TERRA 30 Remotely operated weapon station armed with Russian-made 2A42 30mm automatic cannon at IDET 2017, International Defence and Security Technologies Fair in Brno, Czech Republic.
The TURRA 3 is based on a armoured turret which incorporates armament and gunner's sight offering same level of ballistic protection Level 1 STANAG 4569 as standard combat vehicle. It can be easily integrated to current and future wheeled or tracked vehicles.
The TURRA 3 can be armed with a Russian or NATO 30mm automatic cannon, second armament includes a 7.62mm coaxial machine gun mounted to the upper left position of the main gun. The left side of the turret can be also equipped with two launchers for ATGM (Anti-Tank Guided Missiles) as the Russian Kornet or the Israeli Spike.
On the lower left part of the turret, four smoke grenade dischargers are integrated in the armour covering 120° at the front of the vehicle.
The TERRA 30 has a total weight of 1,540 kg with a length of 2.24 m without main gun, a height of 0.765 m and a width of 2.021 m.
The gunner sight of the TERRA 30 is connected via mechanical interface to the main gun cradle. The sight consists of TV CCD day camera, Infrared night camera and laser range finder. The turret can be used against land low-flying air targets during day and night conditions.
Panoramic commander sight provides the commander full capability of independent observation for situation awareness and target acquisition. It also allows the accurate manual tracking and fire engagement of static or moving target with high hit probability while the vehicle is stationary or mobile. The sight consists of TV CCD day camera. IR night camera and laser range finder on Pan Tilt head.
The TERRA 30 turret is full electrically operated and stabilized with traverse on 360º and weapon elevation from -10° to +70º. The turret can be armed with the Russian 30 mm 2A42 cannon or with the [long] 30mm Mk-44 Bushmaster automatic cannon.

I like the ASCOD light/Med tank with the 105mm auto loader. With room for a few infantry. ASCOD should build a alternative like a 105mm Howitzer turret on the same body.

Government report reveals Pakistan’s progress on military acquisitions amid financial woes

ISLAMABAD - Despite its economic challenges, Pakistan has maintained progress on critical modernization programs to strengthen its conventional military forces, according to a recently revealed government document.
Spiraling debt and rising cost of imports along with low government revenue hit military modernization efforts hard. That, combined with an economic restructuring imposed by the International Monetary Fund as well as currency devaluation, increased the need for indigenous solutions.
Details of ongoing development, the replacement of foreign equipment as well as acquisition programs were recently released by the Ministry of Defence Production in its “Year Book 2017-18” document. The ministry oversees all aspects of state-owned military industrial enterprises, indigenous development programs and foreign acquisition.
The document highlights the prioritization of armored [ground] platforms and air power.
Efforts toward improving armored capabilities include finding substitutions to component imports and indigenous development, specifically:
The manufacturing of auxiliary power units for the Al-Zarrar and T-80UD tanks.
The development and trials of a sabot FSDS-T round.
The development of a driver’s thermal imaging/night vision periscope.
The assembly of engines for the Al-Khalid and T-80UD [medium] tanks.
The rebuilding and upgrading of 160 Type-85IIAP main battle [medium] tanks between 2019-2020 and 2021-2022.
A pilot effort to rebuild T-80UDs [medium tanks] (completed in August 2019).
The continued rebuilding of M113-series [light tracked tank] armored personnel carriers.
The continued upgrade of Type-59 main battle [medium] tanks to the Al-Zarrar version.
The low-rate production of 20 Al-Khalid I tanks, plus the final-stage development of the Al-Khalid II (featuring an enhanced power pack and fire-control/gun-control system).

At IDEAS2018, China North Industries Group Corp., or NORINCO, told Defense News that its VT-4 main battle [heavy] tank had essentially been selected to meet Pakistan’s requirement, but no deal has been signed.
Meanwhile, Pakistan bolstered its infantry anti-tank capabilities by purchasing Kornet-E [SACLOS, 2nd Generation] anti-tank guided missiles (a Russian-made weapon) and Spanish Alcotán-100 shoulder-fired anti-tank rockets. However, financial expenditure information in the ministry’s document did not list acquisitions from Russia, indicating the Kornet-E may have come from an alternative source.
Author, analyst and former defense attaché to Islamabad, Brian Cloughley told Defense News that emphasis on [light &] heavy armor indicates Pakistan’s “preparedness for conventional war, and it seems that the riposte is alive and being refined in direct answer to India’s overwhelming numerical superiority.”
Cloughley said the government may have realized the use of tactical nuclear weapons would spark an uncontrollable escalation, and so it is focusing on other capabilities. However, “this by no means indicates that tactical nuclear [surface-to-surface missiles] are not a most important asset - simply that Pakistan has been considering all options and appears to have concluded it had better maintain and develop conventional forces, concentrating on armor,” he added.

I'm still looking for the Light Tank competition for the US military. I've seen older upgraded design of the stingray light tank. Maybe ASOD light tank and the South Korean light tank design within the competition. I would rather see the T90 light tank upgraded/enlarged a bit for urban combat needs.
