But that's how much and for how long DJ Premier was respected. Even with RTJ, they just are humble. They patiently coordinate with eachother because they know the magic isn't going anywhere. lol.
I was 14 at the time and I played The Sun Rises in the East literally hundreds and hundreds of time without skipping a track. I put that album right there in my all time top 10
DJ Premier is a true hip hop legend. 32 years in the game and still going strong in 2021. Peace to Jeru The Damaja as well for releasing "Come Clean" back in 1993.
“When the east is in the house, you should come equipped” I remember, as a teenager, walking home from my sisters house, listening to this album on my Sony Walkman (which I found my class in school) on those cold east coast winter nights. Something about that is just nostalgic.

This is great! If you have AppleTV, check out Mark Ronson’s documentary “Watch the Sound”. There’s an episode titled “Sampling”. The G.O.A.T. himself Preemo is featured. Some of my favorite songs off that Jeru album The Sun Rises In The East were: Brooklyn Took It, My Mind Spray, and Jungle Music. All of those beats were fire 🔥 and I played that album nonstop back in 93 😁‼️
Absolutely love Jeru’s first album. Straight gems start to finish. One of my all time fav records. Some of Premier’s finest work too. Mad Props to The Damaja and Primo for creating a classic. Also, respect to anyone still loadin up them floppies. I know I am. Keep on. Peace.💾🔥🎤🔥💾🔥🎤🔥💾🔥🎤🔥
The water drop beat was sublime. I couldn't believe that a sound effect of nature could be used to make music so it influenced me to listen to everything in life for music
Second verse of Come Clean is one of my favorites of all time. Matter of fact I remember the first time I heard Come Clean. I had this thing it was like the world's first music streaming service was called DMX. It hooked through your cable box and it came with a remote that had a little screen on it that would tell the song playing, the artist and the album the song was on. I heard so much good music through that service. Lords of the Underground, The Pharcyde, Jeru, Onyx. That little DMX box made it possible for a teenager growing up in Colorado to hear new Hip Hop. I didn't have Hot 97 and radio didn't play real Hip Hop back then. Salute.
+5mins of history. This is great!! Please preserve these videos and consider moving them to your own domain. You delivered this in a clear and concise way and I could put these nuggets of history on loop and watch them repeatedly.
For real still have and use my Akai 950. Jeru’s first two albums produced by the legend DJ Premiere are works of art, so complete from beginning to end, two of my favourite albums ever. Peace and Love
Yoooo I came across jeru unintentionally about a year ago the dude is underrated and it's good to hear the cat is still putting out music. Much love from TX!
I love music history especially hip hop. From a kid listening in the 80's to now. There are so many acts and artists from the different eras the everyone should listen to and know about.
This is wicked. No question heads put in more thought and time into what they were creating back then, especially when what you're working with, like reel-to-reel tape, is so expensive and you couldn't just keep redoing and deleting stuff on computers without worrying about cost. For the same reason, and this is no disrespect, I think a lot of the stuff coming out today from new artists is half-baked. They're going into the studio with the mentality, "Let's just see what comes out." There's no real preparation or vision. On the other hand, think how much thought Jeru and Primo put into "Come Clean." That's why it's timeless. Respect Primo. Love the series.
I love Premo and his production. When I think of east coast boom bap DJ Premier’s production is the standard for me. If I make a boom bap track Premo is definitely my inspiration.

Come clean was so tight!!! That Tom and Jerry beat sample was off the charts. I knew it right away because I used to watch the cartoon a lot. That water drop sound came from Tom and Jerry. Shows how creative Premo is and Jeru tore it up too lyrically. Classic!!!!!
I have that Shelly Manne LP, the resulting classic you made with Jeru was a staple for my DJ sets all through the 90's and it still sounds fresh. This is a great educational video, I will show my students, keep them coming, many thanks!
