My heart definitely beats for the 998s Bayliss - cooler looks, sound and so much character… and that Tamburini lurking in the background 🤩… thanks for sharing these videos 👍
916, 888SP5, 996SPS, 749R, were my bikes. Analogue simply is my thing and after the 999R I lost interest in Ducati. 749R was my best bike and had track days at Assen and Zandvoort with it reaching 1st in lap time and second at the finish against things like RSV Mille R and Yamaha R1. Yes driving skills was the reason. Off all bikes I have riden the 998S FE and 999R still are my favorite. The last one is the Best, the previous one is the most beautiful, both analogue. One day I will have a extensively modified 916 again producing 180hp. That is plenty when the bike is so light with Magnesium Wheels and rear arm and full carbon bodywork. It will cost a lot of money, way more than the SP2 😅. Thanks for the vid
You are very much correct that the analog bikes provide a different type of fun and excitement. I agree 100%. Even with them only producing 125-150hp is plenty for those bikes. The 998S was also one of my favorite
Absolutely fantastic collection of superbike works of art that you actually use and enjoy, bravo to you Sir. I was very surprised by how similar the two bikes sounded at the start and would like to add a 998 to my set of bikes. The roads were you are look in fantastic shape, unfortunately in the UK they are generally in not such good shape to enjoy a superbike to its best. Enjoy and thanks for the wonderful video comparison.
@@bendavies6775 i am about 6’2 tall and both bikes are pretty comfortable for me. The SP2 is a kind of a tall bike, if you are under 5’10 you might have a hard time reaching the ground comfortably. I personally have never had any issues with wrist pain or back pain after riding either bike. Hope this gives you some inside.
@@bendavies6775 you are pretty much the same build as me. Best advise is to just go and try them out even if you are just sitting on it. The 999 is a little bit of a different sitting position and i have not spend enough time on 999 riding it. You can go wrong with either one, both bikes are very fun and have more than enough power.
How do you feel about the 1098-1299 Panigales vs the new V2/V4? Im assuming the V2 is closer to the true experience? The 1198 was the hot bike when I got into riding, but 1098s were what I saw the most and made me love Ducatis (specifically a yellow and tricolore 1098 regularly passed me while commuting, presumably also on their commute, the sound is something i will never forget). Nostalgia leads me towards a 1098 or 1299, but the new machines theyre making seem pretty incredible by most accounts. I am thankfully finally at a point in my motorcycling journey where I can achieve a Panigale, but now I dont know which to get! If you could only have one between the 1098, 1299, V2 and V4: which would you choose, and why? Edit: I suppose the essence of the question is 'is the V2 all the best parts of the LTwin Panigales with modern conveniences? Or does it feel somehow inauthentic to the "experience"?'
Hi Its really hard to pick one and thats probably why i ended up with so many LOL. The new V4 is absolutely amazing. Very easy to ride and very fast. With modern bikes being so powerful you really need all the electronic aids for safety. Where as the old bikes 916,996,998,999 and 1098 it was all about your skills . Thats the only think i sometimes dont like about the new bikes they dont give you that feeling of you having to control everything. The V2 i have never rode but they are a very good platform and thats why they are one of the best selling bikes they have. Rumors are for next generation Panigale the V4 and V2 will have smaller CC enhines and no more single side swing arm. So it really depends what you are lookig for. 1098R are still a good deal as you can find them for about $20K and that is the last of the fully analog bikes with no electronics other than a very primitive traction control. 1299 are vevy good as well.
@SuperbikeAngel Thank you for such a prompt and indepth response! If that's true they're getting rid of the single sided swing arm I guess I should pull the trigger before that happens, that will be a real dark day for ducati design. I am torn on rider aids. I love feeling in control and entirely responsible for the machine, but honestly with such big power bikes I think it may be wise to have that safetynet? I'm still torn but I think your point about the value proposition of the 1098s is hard to argue with. I'll try to get a test ride on each before making a final choice. I know either way I'll be happy though, all are stunning bikes!
@SuperbikeAngel Will do! I got a few months left before I get rid of my Z900, then I'm officially in the market😎 been waiting a very long time for this🙏🙏
I had a 1999 996s and currently have a 2023 sp2. Sp2 appears to be proof we have been visited by advanced motorcycle riding space aliens compared to the 996. Sure, I loved the 996 but it’s nowhere near the sp2 in any category except nostalgia. My pikes peak v4 destroys the 996 too… that’s what a quarter century of continued innovation does. Don’t even get me started with carbon wheels. And yes, I’m incredibly fortunate to get to enjoy these amazing machines.
You sold the sp2? I love the winter test livery! I can’t lie tho, my 996 sat in my foyer across from my MV Augusta f4 for a very long time. They were just so pretty. The 996 was much more fun to ride, the flat power curve, incredible tractability, and I loved the termi’s as well… they’d set off every car alarm you passed. It was a great track bike. I traded an s1krr for my sp2 because it was just sterile feeling. Kinda the same as my old nsx was… another amazing bike but in a very appliance like way. Ducatis are just more fun. The MV Augusta was not nearly as good a bike from a riding perspective, but it was a stunner. I enjoyed the video for sure! Sounds like you need a desmosedici and a superleggera! We are blessed here in SoCal, great twisties and nice weather…
@@denizgocken5875 yes sold the SP2 a few months back and actually sold right away for $41k I liked the winter livery but wanted the new SP2 916 because its a more limited bike only 500 will be made and pretty much the same price slightly more. I am big fan of the early MVs like the 1st gen F4 and of course Ducati as well. Yes my goal is to one day have a Desmo for sure. Funny that you mention Superleggera as i almost bought a 1199SL. It was between that bike and my new MV Agusta Brutale Nurburgring i just got. Went with the MV because was able to get 0% interest rate and no payments for 90 days with their new promotion
Not replaced just needs to be cleaned from the inside. I have 2 Bayliss bikes other one is absolutely mint with only 300 mikes on it and the headlights are the same way. Its a common condensation issue
I like the rawness of the older bikes with no rider aids. And Baylis was one of the greatest riders of all time.
Yes exactly my point as well
