  • The video presents animal postures done in kalarippayattu (kalari) training at Studio Kalari. The postures are arranged in a sequence, and performed first on the right side, and then on the left side.
The animal postures are based on observation of animals in their vigilant poses, and they aim at concentration of power and explosiveness.
Usually there are different exercises for each posture. They are also part of more complex sequences of movements, and prepare for combat with use of weapons.
The postures in the film are:
    1. Gaja vadivu: elephant
    2. Simha vadivu: lion
    3. Varaaha vadivu: wild boar
    4. Kukkuda vadivu: rooster
    5. Mayura vadivu: peacock
    6. Matsya vadivu: fish
    7. Ashwa vadivu: horse
    8. Maarjaara vadivu: cat
    9. Kurma vadivu: turtle
Usually there are 8 animal postures (ashtavadivu) but the number and the form depends on a style and a school of kalarippayattu. For example the cat can be combined with the turtle, the peacock with the fish, and often there is also sarpa vadivu (snake).

Very good . A suggestion as a give back, it is important to use boar vadivu or varaaha vadivu as in the original that is rotating over head( it give mobility to cells in the brain especially the two bumps in back of head) and also include naga vadivu ( important especially for progress )

Very good sequence selected. Is it original in kalari or edited by you?

@@arunnarayanan3428 Thank you 🙏 I was taught it this way, but depending on a kalari style and school, animal postures can be taught in a different way.
