Hi Emma; I'm looking for a good used running 45 foot transit style/flat nose school bus like "BIRBIE" so I can build my own home on wheels, but I'm not having any good luck. I want either International, Thomas, Bluebird,or Ward! I've tried multiple Google searches for businesses that buy and sell used school buses but none of them showed any pictures with the description of the buses so I can't see what they've got! Do You have any information about where I can find what I want?
I'm really not sure! I got really lucky and found my bus when I wasn't really looking so I am not the best person to ask. The only advice I have is to check facebook marketplace or whatever local classifieds you have; that's where I got mine. I know a lot of people get them at auction straight from the school district as well but I'm not sure how that works I'm going to pin this - anyone who has better info than me, help us out!
Hey! Now I don’t know where you are located, but in Connecticut there’s a M&J dealer manufactured in Georgia. They are selling the older but modern bluebird busess. They mostly are selling 2007 Bluebird All Americans because of the new 2023 buses they got for the districts. You could do further research in the website.
Have you ever considered a Battery Maintainer? Not to be confused with a battery charger, the maintainer plugs in and connects to the battery 24/7. uses very little power, to trickle charges the battery but keeps the battery healthy and has a computer to stop charging when full and waits until battery drains to 80% to charge it again. Available at autoparts stores and even Amazon. We use it on my Sister's car who away at college and doesn't need a car up there, the car sits for months at a time and it always starts right up when she has gets home on a school break.
it's emma day.💓. you need to get a thing called battery tender fo hook up to your battery when you are parked for a while at a place with shore power. they will keep your battery charged while you are parked.
First off, great jeans! Second, there is a product I think you might want to know about. It's called "Instatrim 3/4" on the jungle site. I used it in a camper and it looks really nice.
As someone that started down the DIY road in 1959, and am still on the path, I have to say I admire your gumption, tenacity and willingness to tackle something you know nothing about. You are a remarkable young woman and this country could benefit from having more like you. May the road rise up to meet you, enjoy your trip.
You had shore power at your sister's, you should have it get a battery charger/starter being parked that long. The bus has large batteries that take quite some time to charge. You might also check the bus for a block heater cord that keeps the engine block warm, cycling the glow plug was a good suggestion. Enjoy !
I felt myself mentally turning the key willing the bus to start 😅 I love the changing pitches, it sounds like birds. Glad to see you're feeling a lot more positive this week! Enjoy your trip!!
Emma, just happened across your video and subscribed. If you don't mind, I'd like to make a couple suggestions. I don't know what area(s) you live or drive in, but for cold weather starts, always cycle your key a couple times and ( my preference) use Howes Diesel Fuel treatment. I don't know if you have or use a generator, but when you can afford it, I would suggest an Onan. You can also have it hooked into your coolant system to keep your coolant and engine warm to reduce those cold starts as well as charge the batteries and run all your electrical appliances. I have one on my W900 Kenworth with 220" Sleeper and have never had a problem in the 10 years I've had it. One last thing... do fix that door before going out on the road for long periods. You're a pretty young woman and there are some unsavory characters running around. Having said that; it looks like you've done a good job customizing that bus. It looks good and everything appears serviceable. Great job. When / if you decide to have it painted, I would look at Wraps. Yes, they Wraps things that big and can customize it at a fraction of the cost of having it painted. Anyways, great job. Take care and stay safe out here.
If your batteries are going to die, they will always die in the cold. That's a fact. Also, if they sit in the cold, they will flatten quicker. You can't just start your bus (or any vehicle) and leave it idle to recharge the battery. You need to have the car/bus/whatever above a certain RPM (around 1200-1500) before the alternator created enough charge to do more than just power the vehicle. It's always recommended to go for a 20-30 minute drive to give the batteries a good charge. (Or you could disconnect them from the bus and charge them using a decent but regular 12V charger. Dont just buy any charger, though. This is a science all by itself, though, and I could go into it, on request)
Hey Emma! I have a couple easy tips for starting your bus, since it's a diesel there are a couple tricks. First is to turn the key to the on position and let it sit for a second. You'll hear some stuff running, like the fuel pump and glow plugs. There might even be a light on the dash that lets you know the glow plugs are warmed up enough. Second is when it's cold or you haven't ran the bus in a while, it helps to pump the fuel pedal a little bit. You can't really flood it like you could with a gas car. You might also check to see if you have an engine block heater, and if so plug it in when it's cold and the engine will fire up more easily. Good luck!
Hi Emma, Auto parts stores carry a battery jump starter, rechargeable battery built into it. Great to have as a emergency tool. Vary in price and under 200.00 I have been carrying one for years and it has saved the day a few times for me👍 Glad to see you took time for a road-trip!
I don't know if you are on the road by the time you read this, but just in case because the weather is going to be in the extremes, it's a good idea to buy brand new batteries for the bus, on a daily basis for as long as its cold, it's good to have the engine running for at least 1/2 hr 2 or 3 times a day just to keep the bus from breaking down due to extreme cold weather. Also, if at all possible to limit the trips on the bus for spring summer and fall. Let the bus rest during the winter for safety reasons. You don't want engine problems during the winter.
You always make me smile. You’re such a nice person to see and hear. I can imagine how your friends are longing to see you. Waiting for a week until the next video is hard enough for me. Have a great trip Emma and hopefully see you in a week from now 😃. 👋🇳🇱
Yup, shes cold! cycle it again! The multi-beeps is what you want to hear. Just before that final crank that started the engine, I thought I heard the fuel pump finally cycle and prime.
It’s so cool seeing you getting things done in the bus, and hitting the road. Don’t forget that it’s supposed to be fun. Thanks for giving us a peek inside the adventure. Happy Trails
About the fading, I mean yellowing paint, oil paint, never heard that, Oil paint will cover and is four times more durable, but people hate on it because the clean up. I redid a desk and it looks like the day I painted it, one year ago
I think I remember the bus being a diesel. If thats the case, you're going to have to cycle the ignition two or three times for about 15 seconds each time when its cold out. This will get your glow plugs hot enough to ignite the diesel.
☺️💖💖 The way I seen through the camera your desk counter top looks really nice And as far as your kitchen counter I like how it looks on the right side I just couldn't see to much of the left side next to the couch And as far as your bus batteries it definitely sounds like it is time to replace them (My experience with batteries is do your best to upgrade to a higher cranking amp - cold cranking amp type of batteries, they will last a lot longer)
love the countertops!! the bus is looking great 🥰 you've accomplished so much, I am not handy at all and always so impressed at how brave you are at building and figuring things out!
If your going to be road tripping you need to get you a quick start plus a couple of extra options as well like a good electric generator, a jackery or some such, harbor freight has a an electric generator with a built in battery jumper quick start as well as a charger...worse thing ever is to be stranded with a dead battery or bad alternator...that bus probably has a standard 12 volt alternator that's easily accessible and easy to swap out...carry both a spare new fresh battery and alternator in a plastic tote for such emergencies and learn how to swap them out, it's not that difficult...the quick starts will crank that thing over instantly, a lot faster than jumper cables, but you always want them on hand aswell.
On a Diesel engines you have what the call glow plugs and when you turn key on (when it’s beeping) they are warming up, so the diesel will fire off. In colder areas you may need to get some anti gel to put in fuel tank, so your fuel lines don’t freeze up on you. Tip from a diesel and truck driver
Hi you may need to either install an isolating switch at your batteries to stop slow drain off or connect a trickle charge feed off you solar system. The other thing is diesel don't like cold weather starts. Does it have glow plugs as this will help a lot, and if so glow them for 2 or 3 good times before trying your start up. cheers and Merry Christmas to you
You should know this, but. Proper jump start procedure. Connect cables, Let "jumping" vehicle run to charge your battery. To check connection, turn on headlights or something to watch them get brighter. Them turn them back off. After about 15-20 minutes of jumping vehicle running and BEFORE trying to start your vehicle. Turn the jumping vehicle OFF. NEVER crank your vehicle while the jumping vehicle is running. (Reason: the jumping vehicle see's the voltage go down some because it's connected to your vehicle. Thus the alternator is running 100%. When your vehicle starts or tries to. Your alternator is going to be 100%) The head to head surge isn't good. Something might go out, like one of the alternators, electronics or maybe a computer. You can leave the cables connected and use the jumping vehicle as a 2nd battery as long as the engine is NOT running. FYI- don't crank too long or you end up with 2 vehicle with dead batteries. It takes a couple of hours to recharge a battery as long as the charging system is working properly. If your bus's system isn't charging properly, it might already have a diode issue.
One mistake I see that you might want to think about is you turn most of your available space for storage and seating but what about a shower when camping
With Diesel engines you need to warm up the glow plugs Also in places that are cold or very cold Engine block heater, oil pan heater, battery heater. Would probably be good thing to think about
Emma you may need to invest in yourself a battery charger one that you can use also as a way to jump start your bus or even your motor cycle as well. If your interested in that subject you can pick one up at any part store or Walmart.
Our bus has three batteries to keep up with the demands of the engine, Hope it's not the tape and paper residue in your full tank keeping it from starting each rime.
Yeppers i Love it when You Smile and surprise Yourself,ok you need a trickle charger also hook it up when you know your not gonna start your bus for a week or so will keep batteries charged
Noco makes some really nice jump starters if you dont want to buy a new battery and need to be able to jump the bus anywhere, though if thats a 24V System then you will probbaly spend close to the cost of the new batteries just to get the jump starter. Make sure when you jump the bus with a car that you leave the other car off, once the bus starts the Altenator from the Truck and the bus fight against eachother which isnt good, its better to just leave the truck off and jump the bus using the power out of the trucks battery.
Such a pleasure to watch your craziness, Emma!!! It's just great the way you always make things happen. Just wondered how you ended up fixing the disaster with painting the counter top(please, do tell)?! Hope you enjoyed the road trip and seeing friends!? Holidays are a week away, are you excited? Did you know, everyone SMILES 😁 in the same language? 😆🦌☃️🌲🧑🎄 🚍 ROAD TRIP✔️
The bus is looking good Emma your doing a great job little by little and you'll be done girl. You got this. Emma you need to buy a good digital volt meter and use it like for checking your batteries some times as the batteries get old it's good to see where the voltage is for example if a 12 volt battery is under 12 volts just sitting there chances are it's done and it's not uncommon to replace them every 5 to 7 years some only last 2 or 3 get a volt meter is a great tool to have . hang in there and hope your Thanksgiving trip went well.
Very nice. "It's like when things have to get worse, before they get better, but opposite " . 🤣 So funny , so cute. Thank you Emma. You just gave me an insightful idea. By the way, give yourself a break, you are doing a wonderful job. Your counter top is beautiful.
You do a great job making bus work relatable! Your comments on buses being surprisingly cozy winter greenhouses, and also overly convenient covered outdoor storage spaces, are so very true. And you’ve grown so good at reasoning through problems, you inspire me to want to go work on my project despite the bitter cold.
When you start the bus turn key on wait 15 seconds turn off. Then repeat again then turn key and start. Let it crank over longer then you been. Like triple the time on. Diesel engines fire on heat and fuel in the cylinders.
Hope you have the best trip ever. Stay safe, have fun and get reinvigorated to conquer whatever you want to do next. Happy Holidays Emma, UA-cam Fam. May you all have a great New Year.
Hi Emma, I just wanted to say that your hair looked absolutely adorable at the end of this video! 💗 I would love to come with you on a bus trip sometime and I always want to help you with your bus build and I think you need someone to help you stay motivated! I hope you had a good time on your trip and safe travels! Merry Christmas and I really hope we can meet up in the new year. That would be so beautiful! 🌠
I’m sorry but I can’t live with you the clutter would drive me crazy. 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Something you will learn is packing and storage living in a small space. You will get picky as to what you will bring into the space.
I get such a kick out of the fact that you are, and show, how you are just like the rest of us. Makes me feel, okay, with things I put off until they need doing. Also, I recall you have solar panels and a battery system on your bus. You should maybe get a charger for your battery for the bus engine. Then you wont need another car to jump it :) Have a great trip Emma.
Hi Emma, I have watched your struggles and obvious talents for some time now and you have made me smile. However your life style and lack of organisation makes me feel that I am on the road to no where. So I guess this is the parting of the ways but I do wish you all the luck and happiness for your future. Best wishes
You're freaking awesome kid. I hope you have a great trip. I've been following you for a while now and kept thinking you look like someone. You could play Emily Blunt's sister in a movie. You look more like her than her own sister does!
Having seen your posts on instagram, I know you've already had fun on your trip, but it's exciting to see you excited to set out! Your countertops look cool, by the way. And you're always very cool! Have fun!
I love how you’re always so happy and singing constantly. You’ve got an amazing attitude and I’m always silently cheering you on throughout your videos! Lol Have an amazing two week break away from the bus build and stay safe, Merry Christmas from the UK 🇬🇧 🌲🎅🏻❤️
Good for you, always when it's really cold turn the key of and on as your brother said its to heat up the glowplugs better so as you see it has more of a chance of starting, and go over your tyres make sure there up at correct pressure.
Hey great video Emma! Great to see you back on the road! Countertops look great you've done really well! Glad you've got the starting thing down. Always turn on 15seconds let the glow plugs warm up and if doesn't start try a couple times and you'll be ok, especially if glow plugs are getting old/very cold Look forward to the next video! Great stuff! You could Get a trickle charger hooked up to your solar panel set up? Keep your starter battery charged up (obviously make sure it's done properly but it'll make sure you're always charged..) Have a great trip look forward to next video! Cheers from London 👍😉😎🏴🇬🇧
Wow looks like a girls locker room you need to drive to a land fill!! Ifyou was ever in a accident all the stuff would hit you then be down the high way you just got way to much junk in there it would stress any one out & sounds like u need new batteries good luck & god bless
Hi Emma just wanted to say your tee shirt site is awesome so easy and I suggest everyone who's a fan check it out and help support your adventures so we can have more great videos 🥰
I think that you are not allowing the glow plug to get hot enough before you try to start your bus. Diesel engines do not operate with spark plugs but instead use glow plugs to ignite the diesel fuel in the combustion cyclinders and they need to be preheated before operating the engine. Watch your warning light in the middle of your dash to go off and then start your engine.
"It's like making it worse before it gets better. But the opposite". I laughed so much at that sentiment! Also I like the haircut (or maybe you just styled it?) Looks nice.
I know a lot of people get them at auction straight from the school district as well but I'm not sure how that works
I'm going to pin this - anyone who has better info than me, help us out!

He better be cute. Doesn't matter. It finally made you come back to life.
Have fun!!
I bought a little battery tender solar panel kit. My batteries have been no lower than 12.6 for a year 😀
You had shore power at your sister's, you should have it get a battery charger/starter being parked that long. The bus has large batteries that take quite some time to charge.

Hi Emma,

Glad to see you took time for a road-trip!
You enjoy a well deserved break. But I’ll surely miss you. Have a merry Christmas with your friends and family. 🌲
Yup, shes cold! cycle it again! The multi-beeps is what you want to hear. Just before that final crank that started the engine, I thought I heard the fuel pump finally cycle and prime.
You are so good at making your story compelling. I'm thinkin' 100k subscribers before the end of 2023
.....and I know how much effort is required to produce video.....bravo dude
ok now that I saw the end of the video I wish I could hit LIKE twice.
You might want to invest in a "jump box" if your batteries are weak. They make them very small but powerful now.A good investment!
It’s so cool seeing you getting things done in the bus, and hitting the road.
Don’t forget that it’s supposed to be fun.
Thanks for giving us a peek inside the adventure.

Not sure if you're boosting, but if can see. The bigger diameter is the positive. Where you attach the Red connector. You got it.

So funny , so cute.
Thank you Emma. You just gave me an insightful idea.
By the way, give yourself a break, you are doing a wonderful job.

You should check out some of the solar powered battery tenders for your bus.

And you’ve grown so good at reasoning through problems, you inspire me to want to go work on my project despite the bitter cold.
Safe travels on your trip Emma
Nice job. Should also check your tire pressures before a trip. Good luck.
Safe travels .
Yaaayyyy we’re going on a trip I’m excited! 😊😊😊😊😊
Safe travels 🚎🚎🚎🚎
16:05 your hair style here is fabulous.
I’m sorry but I can’t live with you the clutter would drive me crazy. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Something you will learn is packing and storage living in a small space. You will get picky as to what you will bring into the space.
Let the glow plug light go out 2 times before or 3 you start it
Hi Ho, Hi Ho, it's on the road we go 😊😊 Safe travels Emma.
Good on ya emma you will be reinspired after a trip.
P.s does the steering wheel tilt ?
involuntary automatic thumbs up both times the engine started. lol
Hi Emma, I have watched your struggles and obvious talents for some time now and you have made me smile. However your life style and lack of organisation makes me feel that I am on the road to no where. So I guess this is the parting of the ways but I do wish you all the luck and happiness for your future. Best wishes
Just a tip but the alternator won't really charge the batteries much at all when at idle it needs up closer to 2000 rpm to really charge.
You're freaking awesome kid. I hope you have a great trip. I've been following you for a while now and kept thinking you look like someone. You could play Emily Blunt's sister in a movie. You look more like her than her own sister does!
what a compliment 😊
Hitting the road again Emma well be careful have fun and enjoy life.
Thanks for sharing your life with us..and i hope ya have a great weekend and a Merry Christmas to ya..cheers..🎅
Glow plugs warm them lots you will be great
Having seen your posts on instagram, I know you've already had fun on your trip, but it's exciting to see you excited to set out! Your countertops look cool, by the way. And you're always very cool! Have fun!
You will do just fine and you do have cycle the key for the glow plugs
With all you have done, bus is cool. Happy Trails!
What a tip, Lol. Love it.
I love how you’re always so happy and singing constantly. You’ve got an amazing attitude and I’m always silently cheering you on throughout your videos! Lol
Have an amazing two week break away from the bus build and stay safe, Merry Christmas from the UK 🇬🇧 🌲🎅🏻❤️
Good for you, always when it's really cold turn the key of and on as your brother said its to heat up the glowplugs better so as you see it has more of a chance of starting, and go over your tyres make sure there up at correct pressure.
Cummins don’t have glow plugs they have grid heaters
@@TechOut thank you I didn't know what eng she had ,but it does the same job just like all diesels a .
Just love your excitement and enthusiasm!! Safe travels 😊😊
glad you started another trip
Hey great video Emma!
Great to see you back on the road!
Countertops look great you've done really well! Glad you've got the starting thing down. Always turn on 15seconds let the glow plugs warm up and if doesn't start try a couple times and you'll be ok, especially if glow plugs are getting old/very cold
Look forward to the next video! Great stuff! You could Get a trickle charger hooked up to your solar panel set up? Keep your starter battery charged up (obviously make sure it's done properly but it'll make sure you're always charged..)
Have a great trip look forward to next video!
Cheers from London 👍😉😎🏴🇬🇧
Let's Ride Burbie XOXO
I know she's happy to get some open road!
Great to see you out on a Christmas trip Emma.. your bus is looking awesome and your battery’s should be fine after a good run…🙌🏻
You impress me with the way you keep going!! You go girl!!
Wow looks like a girls locker room you need to drive to a land fill!! Ifyou was ever in a accident all the stuff would hit you then be down the high way you just got way to much junk in there it would stress any one out & sounds like u need new batteries good luck & god bless
Merry Christmas to you Emma!
Have you been finding those tiny babies that your friends hid in your bus earlier this year??!!
Got anther question …..when do you expect finishing the wires hanging ?
You need to let the glow pluglite go out
Hi Emma just wanted to say your tee shirt site is awesome so easy and I suggest everyone who's a fan check it out and help support your adventures so we can have more great videos 🥰
merry xmas emma and god bless you!
I think that you are not allowing the glow plug to get hot enough before you try to start your bus. Diesel engines do not operate with spark plugs but instead use glow plugs to ignite the diesel fuel in the combustion cyclinders and they need to be preheated before operating the engine. Watch your warning light in the middle of your dash to go off and then start your engine.
yep i always do! remember i edit stuff out, me staring at the dash for 20 seconds before turning the key doesn't usually make the final cut
"It's like making it worse before it gets better. But the opposite". I laughed so much at that sentiment! Also I like the haircut (or maybe you just styled it?) Looks nice.
Merry Christmas Emma, hope you have a wonderful holiday period.
Omg your videos are so well done lol good luck on your trip can't wait till my bus is ready ☺️
safe travels
Awesome!!
Never a dull moment !
Unhook you battery when bus just sits
