    I can hear the guitars start to play
    And very soon they say
    I was a fool to turn my love away
    And with each glass of wine I feel a glow
    And very soon I know
    I was a fool to let my baby go
    So let the heartaches begin
    I can't help it, I can't win
    I've lost that girl for sure
    Tears won't help anymore
    Yes let the heartaches begin
    I can't help it, I can't win
    I've lost that girl for sure
    Now she's gone
    I can't hold back the tears anymore
    I can see the couples dancin' through the night
    They hold each other tight
    As they dance of love till the morning light
    The soft embraces that they seem to share
    Just make me feel aware
    Of the lonliness I find so hard to bear
    So let the heartaches begin
    I can't help it, I can't win
    I've lost that girl for sure
    My tears won't help anymore
    Yes let the heartaches, heartaches begin
    I just can't help it, you know that I just can't win
    I've lost that girl for sure
    And now that she's gone
    I can't hold back the tears anymore

    We caught Long John Baldry November 23rd 1967 at the Marquee, London. The backing band, Bluesology, featured Reg Dwight (Elton John) and Caleb Quaye. On "Let the Heartaches Begin", a backing track was used. The band waltzed behind LBJ, but he heroically kept a straight face, whilst delivering the song. We returned to the Marquee the following night to take in Fleetwood Mac and Black Cat Bone (featuring Paul Kosoff). Swinging London indeed!

    • @alexfilmwriting
      @alexfilmwriting 2 роки тому +3

      I think people these days discount (or straight don't realize) exactly how star-studded the late 60's London music scene was. Also while London is big, it's like, not *that* big. So a lot of these groups were zooming past (or with) one another on the trains or buses at the time. Literally legends now.

    • @richardtharris
      @richardtharris 2 роки тому +1

      @@alexfilmwriting We were on vacation in London for 4 days, at the time. All my brother and I were interested in was bands, especially the British variety. Some London friends of ours took us down to the Marquee, as we particularly wanted to attend a show there, knowing it was home to the acts we followed. We would have gone to see any old thing, but ended up with the the aforementioned acts. Your comment about London being "star-studded" is so true, as we approached our trip as sort of a pilgrimage. I have no recollection of anything else we did in London, that visit. I went, with my wife, to London in 2017 ( I go to London every 50 Years) , and took in some things missed in 1967, such as the British museum (which hadn't lost all it's charm!), Camden Town, and the West End.

    We saw LJB at the Club A'Gogo in Newcastle. In his pale cream suit, smoking his cheroot; he looked (and sounded) so cool we should have been issued with overcoats! . He sang the blues like no-one else in England at the time.
    What a pity his piano player eventually made it bigger than he did.
    This was one of the few recordings of that era which my mother liked. He's sadly missed!
