I saw Long John in Hollywood at the Whiskey. Totally amazing. He died July 22nd, same day as my friend David Corona. I lived in England, and on the plane home back to California. This was the song in my head. I adored Long John. May he rest in peace.........he was beautiful.
Thank you so very, very much for posting this hautingly fabulous song! Have been looking for it a long, long time. Mr. Baldry was one of the BEST...bless him.
I worked in the downstairs bar at the Cooks Ferry in Edmonton north London around 1966/7 Long John Baldry was singing with a traditional jazz band at that time So was lucky enough to enjoy his gigs there.I met him again in the late 1970s in Vancouver.
I love this song, I saw John and Kathi perform in the 80's.. no I cant remember exactly when. I think of some of the people I have lost when I listen to this classic, Kathi and John are gone too, I imagine they are all together, playing and singing rock n roll
Wow --- So fortunate John decided to settle in Vancouver all those years ago - got to see him and Kathi locally fairly often . A true LEGEND> His bands featured a who's who of western Canadian musicians.
It is indeed, I'm hooked on this song since I've converted this for upload. Big hearted type also thisLong John which suits me very well, with an unforgettable voice. Enjoy the file(s) and all the best, Aart.
You're welcome, my pleasure, very nice footage if you watch the whole concert. Great times for them all I guess. Enjoy my other files of this concert and kind regards, Aart
Only knew lovin fellin from LBJ ( one of my all time favourites) But this song really swings and grooves in a warm sultry rocking way. Love it! So glad I stumbled across this GEM! Thanks LJB Long may your music rock!
Peter McAuliffe : He met some of these guys in subway corridors and likewise and picked them up and played with. For some of them the start of a new career and a rescue for life.
I loved his "Baldry's Out" album. So great to see Kathi here. She should have been a huge star in her own right. What a voice. I never knew Long John was a gay man until I read about his passing. Evidently, he lived out and proud before many others did. I guess at 6' 7" ya just didn't take sh!t from anyone.
Early 1972, Opening for Fleetwood Mac & Savoy Brown at the Paramount, in Springfield, Mass (where I'd seen "The Shaggy Dog," 13 years before) An altogether excellent show!
I'm looking at the songwriting credits on Baldry's album "It Ain't Easy" and it credits Lane/Stewart/Wood with the song. I found your video after watching a Faces' video of the same song.I don't know if you ever had the chance to listen to the album, but it's a classic. The cd re-release has a bunch of bonus tracks, that were not on the original vinyl.
The best version of this song ever. I'm sorry that I have to ask; who wrote it. the first time I heard was 10 years ago on Genya Ravans "bird on the wire Album" on vinyl. The on a Rod Stewart album ...well...no...on radio. I still don't know who wrote it
It was Long John who invited Rod Steward to play with his band years ago. Rod was actually playing as a street musician in the subway areas, far of being a professional musician. I'm therefore not sure if this is from the faces....
A Great and in my estimation..the greatest white blues preformer that influenced many great preformers...in the case of Reginald Dwight...he chose his knew last name of Elton John...from his close friend ...Long "JOHN" BALDRY......
This is a fantastic rendition of the tune. I'm thinking that Rod Stewart with Faces recorded this. Could be wrong. I like the version in this video better. Edit: Just checked, and this is off of Baldry's "It ain't easy" album. Don't know if Faces version came after.
@@Wasted_Talent007 I’ve only heard there about another version from the Faces by the comments though never heard it. As being completely hooked to how this worked out do I have serious doubts there might be a better.
In the right upper corner you see WDR. That stands for West Deutsche Rundfunk. Germany. They had a program called Rockpalast, Rockpalace , They broadcoasted it live without adds or anything. It started in 1974 so its after that. Late 70 ths or early 80 ths i think .
Great piano player, but I wonder why he let go the guy he had on "DON'T TRY TO LAY NO BOOGIE WOOGIE ON THE KING OF ROCK AND ROLL" a dude named Reginald Dwight? /s
Why do many artist play their songs so much faster when playing live? This is much too fast IMO. I think it ruins the effect of the original when they do this.
Fantastic!!! What a talent John was
Just discovered him. He was great.
Saw him in 1969 or 70 at The Paramount Theater in Springfield Massachusetts I’ll never forget Fantastic Performance
Good R&B requires the right feeling. He nails it squarely. RIP!

He has never been recognized by enough of the world for his truly amazing talent!
It is more important that he was acknowledged by his contemporary artists for his talent.
just cant get enough of this live version... magical....
Thanks for posting this gem. RIP Long John!!! Gone but not forgotten.
his music takes me back to a lonely place in my life, his music was like an old friend along with traffic, and others.
Authentisch, liebenswert ein Könner....
Fan-Tastic !!! Solid band behind LJ. Great song.
Toller Autritt ....seine Stimme fantastisch unverkennbar gut ...der grösste ...😂❤

One of my favorites of all time!

Never heard this song until now. Very good, I'll be listening again.
Very nice, soft blues melody. Thank you Long John Barry for leaving this topic for posterity.
I really enjoy this song! She has a beautiful voice.
@greg wigren Check out Leon Russell's Homewood Sessions video if you want to see Kathi in her prime alongside Claudia Lennear.
@French blue8 She also did background vocals on Exile on Main Street, Rolling Stones. Check out her version of I'd rather Go Blind with this band.
I have only heard this great song on the radio once(1971)...I wonder why...
I heard it on SiriusXMs Deep Tracks this past Sunday
@@scottmeeks662 Wonderful to hear this. I saw LJB perform this many many times in Vancouver.

Long John was the person Elton John credited with the person who was responsible for his song " Someone Saved my Life Tonight "
Peter McAuliffe : He met some of these guys in subway corridors and likewise and picked them up and played with. For some of them the start of a new career and a rescue for life.
Elton also chose his last name in tribute to Baldry (his first name).
That is my all time favorite Elton John song!!!
Rest in peace, LJB.
What a voice.
My freind Tom Knowles is playing bass on this! Awesome vid, Congrats from Calgary Alberta.
Blessings this night.
With your Buttons and Bows !!!!!
Viva a musica!! Thank's for this video
His version of [Bonnie Dobson's "Will You Walk With Me,"] MORNING DEW is best cover of any other (in my opinion) because of LJB's voice!
Exelente, saludos desde Argentina
Yowzer He be the man long john baldry for ever.
wow, simply wow
Ironically Rod Stewart used to sing back up for Long John. Nice version of the old Faces song.

wow legend music
Elton John took his name from Elton Dean, the sax player for LJB at that time, and Long John.
Reggie's playing on Don't lay no boogie woogie is one of his best recorded pieces ever!
Ian Armitt played piano on "Don't try to lay no boogie woogie on the king of Rock and Roll".
I actually had a few words with Kathi MacDonald when I saw Long John play in Oakville in 1978.

Ronnie Wood says this is the best song he ever wrote(that he can remember)!!
The Faces' original is on the Best Of The Faces, which my brother had.

Am 13.10.2000 habe ich diesen Song in Leipzig im " Anker " in einer ( für mich ) noch stärkeren Version gehört......yeah...

@jerichomyles Does your friend know who the piano player is?
I see some Joe Cocker, Lemmy Kilmister, and Ian Anderson coming from his music.
Isn't that the same lady who sings with Roy Wood?
Who is that piano player in the front of the camera when the song starts? Ian Armitt??
