Hi I’m Rick Shiels, welcome to my channel RickShielsPGAGolf. This UA-cam channel is designed to help you play better golf, also to help you enjoy your golf more!
I specialise in golf club reviews, golf club unboxing, golf club news, golf club head to heads, and all about golf clubs.
I also want to make you play better golf by providing coaching video on all topics about golf, how to fix your slice, fix your hook, help you drive the golf ball longer, hit your irons more pure, hit your irons closer to the hole and help you draw and fade your golf shots.
I will also help you lower your score by chipping better by stopping you duff and thin chips, pitch the ball closer and also create backspin. Also I will provide you help to putt better and hole more putts!
On this channel I also make fun and entertaining golf content based on crazy and sometimes “gimmicky” golf clubs. I like to cut through the marketing hype about products and I like to give you the honest truth about golf equipment.
If you enjoy the channel make sure you hit subscribe and also tap the notification bell so that you are always notified when I release a new video.
Your Pinned comment on Instagram made it to your UA-cam lol 😆 hot dog and a free drink!

Cool stuff
Giving credit! Rick is hands down my favorite. Has made me a huge golf fan since starting to take up the game.
@@RickShielsPGA you should test kirkland golf gloves too
Great review again. Does the numbering and loft look like Ping type font even though the club design doesn’t look like Ping.
"As long as it comes with a hot dog and a free drink....." - epic!

Dude, this is what I love about your channel. You look out for the common player, the guy with a little bit tighter budget, and you give honest reviews. No need for something expensive when something cheaper works just as well. Thanks for the honesty!
No doubt!! Same here
Only a year late here but did you end up purchasing the Kirkland wedges? I want to replace my wedges and easily would replace them with these if they are solid.
@@delcodel6835 i have the wedges and i love them
I remember Rick reviewing an inexpensive Wilson wedge from Amazon. I wonder how these compare directly to the Wilson wedge. I magine these are the best budget option.
@@jonahansell3476 im in the market for new wedges i have Cleveland rtx 60 and had a 56 but lost it, I think I might give the kirkland a try
I went to Costco on Saturday to pickup a $20 pack of 4 KS golf gloves (they feel like butter) and walked out with a KS1 putter and the 3 wedge set. Played McDowell Ranch in Scottsdale on Sunday. Pros: my putting and chipping were pretty good. Cons: I looked like a spokesman for Kirkland. I don't see a scratch player buying off the rack clubs from Costco but this 24hc weekend warrior is impressed with the lineup so far.
You do you. Never understood the dissing of starting golfers or weekend players and their equipment. Not everyone wants to drop $1,500+ on all new equipment. I picked up these wedges recently myself as I was missing a LW and GW in my starter set. They're great. And now around Xmas 24pc golf balls are $23! and gloves are $22 and they're fantastic.
@@richardnavratil9661 Brother, I've been playing for almost 45 years. Kirkland's golf equipment is very good equipment period, not just good for the money. The value is insane on these wedges. I haven't pulled the trigger on buying them yet, but I think I'm going to today. I was in my Costco 2 days ago and they were on sale for $120 for the set of 3. You can't beat that value. Balls are good too & were on sale as well for $24 and the gloves seem to wear quite well and again, the value is insane. I have no embarrassment having Kirkland equipment in my bag. Golf equipment snobbery is for fools with more money than sense.
Nice to see a fellow Arizonan here
Shot a 66 first round with Kirkland putter. (+2 handicap) will never change!
My wife bought them for me for x-mas. I thought "Oh No!!". Looked at a review that used trackman. WOW!!! great numbers! said Ok...went into the garage and changed to my favorite grips. after the first round, took my Clevelands out of the bag for good. They feel and play great. I' a 9 handicap. My friends laughed at first. they laugh no longer 😀
I have Cleveland now but looking to get a fresh set and leaning towards these also
After doing a little bit of research, under the USGA conforming, these wedges were made from a company called Southern California Design Company in Carlsbad, California. Carlsbad is also where Callaway are based. Costco also has a deal with Callaway, as seen with the Callaway Edge set. That also makes sense why the putter could potential be an Odyssey made putter. Highly likely that these are a callaway set of wedges just with Kirkland Signature branding.
Good research
Everything is made in china might be designed there but guaranteed they make it in china and just put they’re brand on it like everything else
@tyvek05 made in china assembled here, same same.
@tyvek05 you are Chinese.
I was thinking about getting them to compliment some rogue x irons.
Now I definitely will since they are, in a sense, callaway wedges.
I love that Rick reviews literally everything. Anytime I’m looking at new clubs or balls, he always has a very honest and to the point review
I heard from a reliable source that they are in fact made in a massive underground ice factory near the North Pole by a team of Scottish miners that accidentally ended up there after turning left instead of right. They are made out of melted down staples.
Rick always does a great job with equipment reviews. Really like how
he is honest about +/- of clubs and balls. Have used several of his recs to buy clubs and he never disappoints. Will look for these next time I am at Costco.
I wanted to see the spin numbers on the gc quad vs the wedges in your bag.
Come on smash some on gc and I’ll smash the like button!
@@rubenarriaga6244 Agree.
Love that Rick gives all clubs and golf balls a test so we can have an unbiased opinion on how they preform! Also, in love with everything costco especially their churros 😋
Costco has churros? I bought the wedges last week and pizza but didn’t see churros
Got mine a couple weeks ago. Love them so far. Only thing to get used to is the heads being a little lighter than your typical wedge. They cut through the turf beautifully on full swings.
This has quickly become my go to channel when I go on UA-cam. Hope new lockdown doesn’t harm your videos.
Someday I will be able to play an entire set of Kirkland Signature clubs. 😂
They've gotta sign the most frugal guy on Tour. They probably won't pay him but he can get a free membership.
@@jonathanstewart1724 and a special card to buy whatever they want from any Costco for life.
Isn't that the dream when it comes right now to it?
@@jonathanstewart1724 who cares as long as I’m getting discounted gas and unlimited food from the food court I’m Gucci.
My guess is Callaway make them, this is for three reasons. 1. Callaway seem to have a deal to sell box sets in Costco. 2. Odyssey are owned by Callaway and the putter does look as if it could be an Odyssey. 3. The shape looks like the old Mac Daddy range. It could be product recycling under a different brand. Would be interesting to see how the ball correlates with an old Callaway premium ball. Maybe you should get that ball cutter going to check?
Callaway also sells 24-packs of balls at Costco on occasion. The last one, Hex Tour Soft is a great ball. $30 for two dozen!
I was told they were likely Cobra-made, but I haven't heard anything official
Officially made by the Southern California Design Company based is Carlsbad, CA. On the SCDC website, Cobra is listed as one of their "clients".
And the micro grooves
I would say no not callaway, doesn’t Callaway have their own takedown brand Strata?
I purchased the clubs in January. Used them for the first time on 3/9 and LOVE THEM! Purchased made because of this review!
Love your reviews. Always very comprehensive and unbiased.
Crazy Kirkland just making anything and everything haha
“As long as it comes with a hot dog and a drink” now I’m going to go for the hot dog n drink only, gee thanks 😂
😡🛑
Dang man you got bots fighting for your attention
Most Kirkland products are just wrapped Kirkland labels of well known products
Would like to see some testing on Decathlon's Inesis line. Probably in the same bracket as Kirkland and would be good to see how they compare performance wise.
I just picked them up and hit them in the backyard and net. Initial experience is a 9 out of 10. Very pure feel that was missing from my Taylormade M1’s. Not sure of spin rate but will test tomorrow. 👍
Good thing costco is introducing this with time in between so Rick has time to test, review, and give us his thoughts. Thanks Rick.
"The wedge shares a similar creative story to the putter in that Costco buyers approached a well-respected design firm, in this case, the Southern California Design company, to develop the wedges and work with a manufacturer for production. This isn’t SCD Co’s first time working in golf either-it had a hand in the (visual) creation of the Cobra AMP Cell irons, and another company Indi Golf and the StingRay wedges."
One of the main factors that affect the performance of wedges are the freshness of the grooves. With this price point, you can switch out wedges every 3 years vs buying a set of premium wedges over that time period. Just ordered a set.
As always, great content! Would love to see you review the Ben Hogan equaliser wedges as I've read multiple reviews with them having the highest spin of any legal wedges
Always gotta go to Rick for the reviews, no bias, and honest
After a wee bit digging apparently they're made in California by a company associated with both Cobra and indigolf (who I've never heard of) who apparently specialise in wedges 🤷♂️
I was thinking Cobra. They look quite similar to my Cobra wedge
They're made by Indigolf.
@@andrewsteavpack9079 glad Im not the only one who things this. I love my Cobra wedge and this looks very similar.
@@michaelgraham628 I prefer it to my Titleist Vokey, granted the Vokey is probably a generation older than the Cobra
It's southern California design company who made the club. They've worked with Cobra and Indie golf. Costco is going to release another 4 piece golf ball soon. Rumor is they're also working on a driver. Possible release date late summer 2021
I'm in for a set when ever they're back in stock at my Costco. This review just made me more hype to try them.
Definitely hope they come with a hot dog and lemonade. Need that Rick Shiels Merch soon! Also one of the pins!
Just get some gently used or near new titleist vokeys on eBay for the same price or even less

Excellent marketing 🙂🥗
They just dropped on the website now. Go buy before they sell out again
They're online. I ordered some this morning.
End of the day I only get out a few times a year and while I could buy a full set of volkey wedges for $450, I don't really need to spend the cash because I doubt it'll make any difference in my game
I am a very novice golfer and bought this Kirkland wedge set and my wedge shots on the range, over artificial turf, are spinning back .... first time ever for me!!!
Thanks for your video.👍🏼 just got my new set in can’t wait to try them!!!😃
It’d be so cool to see him play with all kirkerland clubs after they come out with a full set
Not sure if that’s the plan or not
Being released later this year or next!
Just come in from the live-vid. Best from Germany!

Great review. This is an absolute must for people just picking up the game or for people that do not like to spend money. That being said, I’d have no issue picking these up and using them to practice twice as much.
GREAT VIDEO!
your videos are always great
When I saw these wedges I instantly thought they looked just like the new Cleveland zip core wedges so if I had to guess Cleveland
I’d consider this If Kirkland would just create a golf logo so I wouldn’t think of food every time I grab my wedge.
Agree. Also Kirkland as the brand name is just ehh...
yea if they just send kirkland in smaller print.. or get rid of kirkland and just keep signature. but , the wedges not so bad but the putter is loud
They need to go with the KS logo and make it look cool. Just a simple KS.
yeah, but how often can you say your clubs match your pants, socks, granola bar and underwear? Gotta count for something! :-)
Or tires, or vodka.
Hi Rick. I was watching this Kirkland Wedge video to see if they would help my game. I an an "improving" 17 handicapper, can hit the ball well off the tee but poor and inconsistent as i get closer to the green. After watching this vid, you have convinced me to purchases these to help improve my accuracy/consistency, so thanks. However I then googled how to hit wedges and found an old video from you, I think it was 2015!! I had to check the link twice as you looked totally different (younger/slimmer/less beard), made me chuckle but in a good way. Keep up these great vids, they help myself and many like me to a) understand technique better and b) apply those learnings into my game. If you ever fancy a game round my club Leyland, drop me a note. Best wishes Peter Mc
Thanks Rick. Your narration and feedback is greatly appreciated here in Western Massachusetts. Play well and God Bless. ⛳🙏🏼⛳
I was in Costco today and saw these wedges there about £150 . I’ll be going back to get a set after your review. Thanks Rick.
Any update on the wedges, Bill?

The music that the editor uses in Ricks Vids are soooooo chill and relaxing 🥰
I tried some Callaway Jaws at a demo day and loved them. Bought the Kirklands about 2 weeks later,
after watching this, thinking of Costco's generous return policy. Have played two rounds and they are staying in my bag! Strike feels similar to the Callaways, although I only hit those off the mat, so maybe apples and oranges. Every good shot I hit with them stuck nicely. Unfortunately I still hit a lot of bad shots. They can't fix that.
My money is on these being Callaway wedges. These look a LOT like my MD4’s with some very subtle differences. The putter looked an awful lot like an Odyssey putter as well, and Costco has previously sold Callaway clubs. Either way, great video Rick!
Agreed, I still have a Mack daddy 60 degree and it looks almost identical.
I thought the putter look like a Nike method one I have in bag.
They're made by Indigolf, not Callaway. I know the guy that makes these, names Rob.
It's the same manufacturer as Taylormade in South Korea
It has to be
I'd love to see a review of Wilson harmonized wedges
Saw this today and immediately ordered a set. Thanks Ricky!
Hope they come to the UK, equipment prices have gone mad and we need something like this to shake the market up.
I play the Kirkland gloves and they're fantastic!
There is only one reasonable assumption to make... they are really just Miura wedges with the Kirkland Signature logo
Kirkland is most definitely not producing these first hand; you not sure about Miura but another company would definitely be doing the production
Haha clearly Christopher is kidding. Miura doesn’t make anything cast, and never will. Only the highest quality steel and forging from miura
I got these clubs just because of Rick's review on them and they are amazing! No bs they are really good in my opinion 🤙🤙
Just bought these yesterday and trying them today! Glad to see this comment.
@@andrewhoopengardner2882 you're going to love them!
Love the review. I'm in need of new wedges and I think I'll give these a try. Quick question: Is there a reason you didn't run these through the launch monitor to check spin against a used vokey wedge? Perhaps in another video...
I love watching your videos you help me out a lot
They sort of look like Cleveland’s Zipcore wedges a tiny bit
Agreed
Yes, I took one look and said they're Cleveland
Thought the same
Came here to say the exact same thing. Zipcore step downs for sure.
They look nice and they seem to play well. Almost looks like something Cleveland might have had a hand in designing. Personally wouldn't buy them, but that's mainly because if I replaced my custom initialed MD5s that my wife surprised me with I might never see another sunrise
😂😂
Went to Costco yesterday and, as I always do, went to the golf items straightaway. Shazam, they were back in stock. I bought them and can't wait to get on the course. Thanks for the video.
I have literally this second just bought these. Getting a set of clubs together to start playing again for the first time in 8 years. 👌🏻
Now I want a spreadsheet of clubs and balls with Rick ranking them out of 10

Great review as always. Kirkland has really done it this year. They have taken quality into cheap.
They look really good and great value for money hope they arrive here soon not that we can use them from Thursday but hey ho cheers Rick another great review👍
When I bought clubs from Costco back in the 90's, my friends all gave me the business and called them "Muffin Clubs", because they said I got a free dozen of Costco muffins when I bought the clubs.
They've come a long way.

Lol at muffin clubs
Looking for a new lob wedge and this might be it. Can't wait to see who the first PGA Pro is to carry Kirkland clubs in their bag! Thanks for the review Rick.
Still waiting for Costco to release an entire golf set. Trying my hardest to hold out on getting new clubs until then.
Thank you for your candid and humorous review. As a yank and Costco member, I am tempted to buy this set. I am a 72 year old hack who really needs some new wedges me I'm sold.
Based on your review I picked these up and only had to pay $140 Canadian the same as I paid for my last gap wedge 8 years ago Looking forward to playing with them
Hullo Rick. I have worked for the last decade at a municipal golf course, here in the U.S. I have also steered folks looking for (a) wedge(s) towards Wilson. For those who don't have $150 & up to spend on a Vokey (Titleist) or RTX (Cleveland). We've offered Wilson Harmonized wedges for between $35-$50 U.S.. they're gorgeous, more than functional. For that price they are flat out exceptional. Unless you're a single hndcp or better player, I doubt you will notice any difference in performance or feel. For around 1/3 of the price of more premium brand names. I hope that's helpful for someone. Thx Rick!!! Love your YT vids. Still waiting to win one of your giveaways. Keep up the good content & keep swinging...⛳👍🤞✌
Don't supoose you could ever test "lazurus" clubs?? Premium but cheap apparentl and I'm curious but obv can't test lol. Thanks
I feel like you were spot on with odyssey (Callaway) making the putter. I would also guess that Callaway made the wedges. Base solely on the fact that that’s who Costco seems to be in bed with. The edge full set, the only other ball Costco offers is a Callaway which I believe is specifically made for Costco. The only bag they carry is a Callaway. I would be surprised if Callaway has not made those wedges.
i always had a feeling that callaway was helping costco get into the golf game strictly bc titleist was the only golf company to sue costco over the golf balls so possibly costco went right to callaway and asked them if they wanted to help stick it to titleist
Google it
Costco also sells TM rbz
@@SpceItOut interesting I haven’t seen those in stores near me, it could be a couple of brands helping then go at titleist, especially bc titleist was being little wussys about the ball
@@michaelwoodworth8895 ya i picked up the kirkland and my buddy got rbz which suprised me
High handicapper here, never had a full set of wedges, so for the price I figured what the hell. I love them. The only thing I did was change the grips, the grips they come with are about the diameter of a pencil. I also picked up a pack of their gloves, 4 pack, great fit, and durable as hell, I have yet to wear the first one out like I tended to do with the Callaway gloves I usually buy. As for the ball, like the way they play, but then cover is one of the least durable I've ever played. I've scuffed them with my old Callaway irons and dirty grooves. Not good for desert golf, where a trip to the rocks is a very big possibility. Is try the putter, but I love the one currently in my bag, so no comment on it....yet.
Thanks Rick! Hope Costco puts more of those wedges in stores and online. Very limited release right now.
Anyone who has been to Costco knows Kirkland is just all class, they make simple, quality, cheap products, and they treat their employees amazingly. A great company to get anything from, thanks for reviewing these clubs Ricks, cheers from the US!
The apparently they are designed by "Southern California design company". They are based in Carlsbad California. Most of the major players in the golf club design are also based in Carlsbad CA. I think they could be a wedge called Carbite but being designed in Carlsbad Taylormade, Callaway and Cobra are also based there. Apparently SCD helped design the Cobra AMP Cell irons. Oh and Odyssey are based in Carlsbad so I think Rick is spot on with his call the KS1 putter has a whiff of them about it. But who knows 🤔
Great review Rick will keep a look out for them
i have 3 friends using these the past month, all saying great things. and for the price wow. cannot wait for them to release more clubs and disrupt the barrier to entry of golf
Rick, you were almost right about the putter. It was manufactured by some type of big Chinese corporation. They also work with many other name brands to produce mainly putters, so there is a good chance that odyssey might also work with them. The wedges on the other hand were made by Southern California Design Company who also made the Cobra amp cell irons. This company has also made wedges for some other lesser-known golf companies. It seems that Kirkland is willing to spend a lot of money to make the best version of their clubs as they can! This is exciting because it shows that they care. We're all excited to see what they bring out next! Thank you to GolfWRX for supplying this information.

Very very good review as always! I like the way you don't always choose the premium brands. I bet most of your subscribers don't either. Keep up the good work.
Just bought these going to give them a try tomorrow. They look really nice. So that’s a good start
I heard these wedges have a 24k solid gold center and are made in japan with steel imported from Germany, and they are 10x forged to the maximum limit. Miura offered to buy their blueprint but Costco denied the offer.
The manufacturer is Southern California Design Company. I think I'll pick up a set and try them out!
curious if SCDC have their own golf club manufacturing facility or if they contracted the design to one of the major golf brands🤔

My wife purchased these wedges for me as she knew I wanted a 52,56,and 60. I was looking at the vokey sm8, but she bought these for me so I decided to use them. They are great wedges I get great height, spin, and they stop on the green. Today for the first time ever in my life I was on hole 8 at my local course and was 60 yards away with my 4th shot it was a par 4. I grabbed my 56 degree and took a shot. It was right at the pin hit in front rolled forward and dropped in the cup. As I said before this is the first time I have ever done something like that and it was with these wedges. I have to say that these are great wedges

The systemic misrepresentation of left handed golfers really Hurts me, I can’t even order clubs off the websites of major golf brands.
The putter is available in LH (in US).
Based on this review, I purchased these wedges last week. I don't buy clubs often and have three mis-matched wedges, one of which is an old Taylormade "bubble" shaft wedge. I could have purchased a used set of wedges, but I wanted a new set that were matched. Played today in Orlando - the wedges were the best part of my game (of course my play today was impacted by being soaked due to Tropical Storm Eta). A few more rounds before I give up on golf for the year and vow never to play again. Good purchase.

You did it!!! Thanks so much!
Rick-I just got these and I gotta say Wow. I've been using a wedge from 1983 for around the green most of the time. I bought a cleveland but could never hit it the right distance. I saw this video and dropped the cash on it. Wowie! I can now understand how you can hit a 52 degree 125yds. I'm a small guy-5'7" so swinging 135mph is outta the question. But these 3 wedges fill up a huge gap in my bag. I can how hit 100 with an easy lazy full swing 52 with stop spin-not a huge draw spin. Took 7 strokes off my score last time I played. Thanks for this review. BTW-AT costco the salesman said he heard from Phil Michelson these are made by a subsidiary factory of Callaway-for the Saudi tour players.
Just what I need, a pallet of 344 wedges
Never played any Kirkland products before since its not available in Malaysia at least at the place I usually buy my golf gears but would love to play them if the price is really cheaper than the major OEM’s 💵💵💵
