This isn't really wedge related, but....for those of us that have hearing problems, it would be nice if you would have recorded this in a better acoustical environment. It would have been much nicer in a smaller room w/ better acoustics since you weren't hitting balls or demonstrating technique, etc., that would require you to be in the larger room. Just a thought. I carry 4 wedges. 44 P w/8 b, 49 G w/12 b, 54 S w/14 b, 58 L w/10 b. That’s what works for me. I typically use the 54 with lots of bounce out of green side bunkers and if a flop is needed around green I use the 58 with a little less bounce.

I got a Callway Strata 9-piece set off amazon that comes with a 55 degree SW but am unsure of my 9 iron and obviously the set did not come with a PW. Callaway discontinued the 9-piece set so I'm unable to pull the specs online. What loft angle would you recommend? I don't want to be too close in angle to my 9 iron. Would i be good with 46 or 48 degrees? Any feedback would be great. Thanks!
The club Should be over your neck it don't matter what angle, but if the club is too short you will slice it. Your knees slightly bent, leaning forward, back straight. Now swing for swiftness not strength. Now just practice.
Ive got a TaylorMade r7 pitch with a loft of 45. My TM ZTP gap is 50 loft with a 6 bounce. Sand at 54 with a bounce of 12. A lob of 58 and 9 bounce. Is that a good enough setup since i focus on the short range game. Also since that is my wedge setup should i keep it or change it up.
JoeyK yep, we like this set up. Good spacing in the lofts. If you do chip at all with the 50, make sure and open the face slightly which will give you a little more bounce and help with those tight lies...hope that helps. 👊

I got a question, what's the difference between a vintage pitching wedge and a more contemporary pitching wedge. I've noticed that older pitching wedges are around 48-49* and newer pw's are around 45-46*, is there a major difference other than just stronger loft??
Kevin, you are spot on. The manufactures have delofted all clubs these days to help people "hit" the ball further....marketing at its finest LOL. I wish they would just put lofts on the clubs not numbers....would make it easier.
I have two wedges aside from PW. They're both Cleveland CBX wedges. One is a 54 degree and one is 60. I call the 54 my sand wedge and the 60 my lob wedge. And I use my 54 for sand and a lot of chip shots in general. Should I be trying my 60 in the sand more? Is my 54 really technically a gap or approach wedge as opposed to a SW or is all just semantics?
For the average golfer, think of an approach wedge and gap wedge as generally the same thing. These wedges fill that gap between your pitching wedge and sand wedge, and tend to be in the 50-54 degree range, depending on your spacing preference and the manufacturer. Hope that helps!
The fairways of the golfcourse where I play are very hard and a few months of the year are very dry. It’s almost imposible to make a divot. What bounce is better for fairways like that?? And for hard sand traps??

That is a high lofted lob wedge. Look up how to hit a flop shot. It’s best used around the green when you want to get the ball high up in the air and land on the green and stick with little to no roll out. I follow a page called “scratch golf academy” on here, great short videos with comprehensive content. Give it a look, he should have some videos posted on flop shots.

I was sick of all the pros hitting the ball a mile so I wrote PW on the bottom of my driver. Now I get 250 meters from my PW.

From Limestone, TN 59 years old. Is a gap wedge a necessity? I have a pitching wedge and a Sand wedge but not a gap wedge.

sand wedge- 54-56
lob wedge- 57+
less bounce when dry more bounce when wet
sand wedge and lob wedge are two different clubs with different lofts
Importantly the sand wedge generally has a lot more bounce than lob wedge which makes it easier in soft deep sand.

Yes, you are spot on. We like a 3-4 degrees of separation between the wedges to keep for good distance control. Solid post here.
