Funny - I also hate small annoying noises.
    My solution...
I love using a bamboo spoon - you can purchase them in short or long handle.
Really light weight and nearlyno noise!

My summer quilt is exactly the same... colors and model are the same, but it is a 40 degree. I also have a zero degree EE quilt for cold. I ditched the straps quickly... when it is cold, I clip all of the clips together under me which keeps the warm air in! I have the same sleeping pad, although perhaps a smaller one, and sleeping directly on that with the quilt tucked around me is so warm. Only issue is if I toss and turn and the opening moves from the pad... then it is cold. But just have to readjust... it's worth it to me. Guess I have only maybe around 3500 miles on my experience and maybe 1000 of that in cold weather.... to give perspective to my two cents. 😀

For fast charging - look for chargers with USB-C connectors, those are faster. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USB-C Also, look for the little cube-shaped chargers (it should say 'gallium nitride' on it or in the labeling somewhere) - these use electronics that can perform at a higher temperature and again supports faster charging.

Hi Juliane. Loved seeing your "helper". I know you couldn't have done the gear review without her. Lol. Good review. It's interesting how much of it made it through all your hikes. That's impressive. Thanks for sharing. Take care. Stay safe. See you on the next video.

If you are looking for a new plug charger, I recommend one of the GaN chargers from Anker - super small 100W and very fast charging, 2 usb-c and 1 usb-a. They are a bit pricey but really nice and not too heavy

I think it also depends on the powerbank and the power it can accept on input. For example, my Nitecore Carbo 20000 accepts only 18w input 😢

Outdoor Research makes a decent Marino Wool glove with touchscreen pads on the tips. Then as a semi waterproof shell I bought a pair of cheap ski gloves, ripped the guts out of them and they fit perfectly over the ORs if you needed weather protection or extra warmth.

I used a snow peak stove for a long time, but I got really frustrated with how long it took to boil water. Recently I changed to the soto windmaster and love it. It's a little heavier and a little more bulky than the snow peak, but it boils water lightning fast. There is a lighter 3 prong pot support you can buy to shave off a few grams. I was a bit worried about the pot support not being connected to the stove while packed down because that's just one more thing to lose, but I found it practice it hasn't been a problem for me.

    • @sabijoli
      @sabijoli 6 днів тому

ditto on the soto wind master, LOVE it, so light and the self-ignitor is still working. It was recommended to me by a panel of women who long distance solo hike. I did the TRT with it this summer and only used 1 small fuel canister for heating water 2x a day.

Thank you for sharing! Please show us your essentials bag. Those little things are the ones I always forget. I often move things in there to my day bag, then forget to move them back. I need to make a complete bag that never gets moved other than refilling it.

i too had a problem with the 10,000 mHz nitecore i use my older 20k Anker and it’s very reliable and doesn’t discharge, it’s heavier than the nitecore, but for reliability it far surpasses the nitecore.

Hi Juliane.I really enjoyed your gear review. Was looking for you to do one. Perhaps you can bend your TOAKS pot just a bit to round it out. I also love mine (mine is 750ml) so I understand your attachment to it. I also love the double ended spoon/fork. And love your fur baby’s appearance. 🐾 I am on hold from hiking right now because my furkid is 14 1/2 yrs old old and has lost her sight and her hearing so I cannot leave her with anyone at this point. So my new hiking buddy is my 5 yr old grand daughter. And we camp in Mimi’s back yard for now. Love my Kulas but have that Amazon brand as well. I taught her how to P in the woods when necessary lol. You are a fun and positive role model for girl/women hikers. See you out there!

    Hey Girl: aka Roadrunner:
Question, I know before the walk you were can you say down, depressed, missing the trail. How are you feeling now.?
How many reroutes were required by fires?
What were you daily miles a day? You can break it up in sections. So many questions. Liters of water thru the desert?
I know this video is about gear. And I thank you.
Helping you with ideas for next one.
Guess you heard that they want you to start at Rock Fish Gap @ mile 865.
Will my choice is to start in April there or start in On the PCT same date.
    Any ideas?

Thanks for this! As I’m preparing for my PCT thru hike, it helps to see what others have used successfully. I like carrying a pillow which, after watching your video, is looking like a luxury item for me, but I’m just a fan of a light inflatable pillow. One thing I would be curious about is, if you started wearing a fanny pack, would it turn into a valued part of your gear list? It’s always handy to have fast accessible pockets, and it comes in handy for town as well.

For hiking pants I really like the Outdoor Vitals Satu pants, which they offer in a ladies cut as well. Not cheap, but they have lasted through everything I’ve put them through with only one mishap involving sliding down a gravel slope on my butt and getting a couple holes in the back pocket.

Ironic that I purchased the dancer pants for my John Muir Trail thru hike earlier this summer because of your recommendation. My 30 yr old son Purchased some too. We BOTH used them a lot. Neither of us brought pants, rain or otherwise for this trek. They were great. We also used the BRS stove and and I agree, gloves are necessary and mine sucked.

For hiking pants I really like the Prana Halle straight fit - it’s water repellent and the fit is very nice!
Waterproof/windproof pants - Arc’teryx Beta Pant are excellent.

Two great options for wind pants: (1) EE WOMEN'S COPPERFIELD WIND PANTS. I brought these to the Sierra in 2023 expecting no rain, instead it rained 2-3 times a day due to hurricane Hillary. These performed amazing. Not sure if they are hardy enough for a full thru.
    (2) zpacks Women's Vertice Rain Pants. Slightly thicker and more durable than wind pants. Many people carry these on thrus and they get good ratings.
Also - zpacks has an excellent water holder for your shoulder strap. Probably more durable than the Etsy ones.

Hi Julianne. I'm a recent new subscriber by unintentionally finding your AT "movie" vlog. I haven't watched all of your AT individual vlogs yet because I have been watching your informational ones.
I love that you did this vlog even though I bought my tent and backpack just this year. Wish I would have found you before those 2 large purchases. But, there is always N+1. Right?!?
I will eventually catch up to watching all of your vlogs probably as long as it took you to hike the trails. 😄Keep on hiking.🥾🥾

Great video. Lots of things to consider about gear. If your next hike is the CDT you may want to look at a 20 and a 10 K set of battery packs. Longer hikes between resupply and cell service is a bit tougher, as well. Happy trails.

Agree on the MSR Groundhogs! I think I have the minis and they have been great,.. except for rocky ground which is then just a headache for any trekking pole tent I think. Also had zipper issues with my ZPacks Soleplex... ZPacks was kind to send me free zipper sliders while I was on the AT, though trying to fix those zippers was a. whole process!

Good gear video! I haven't started your Pinhoti videos yet, been spending more time in the forest instead, but I'll watch when I have time. Temres 282 are my go-to gloves for cold and wet weather, otherwise just use your extra socks for cold and dry weather (or take another pair for using on either hands and feet). I totally agree with using a sleeping bag, even though I use a duvet at home, a sleeping bag cuts out the drafts I felt the time I tried out a quilt--or maybe I'm just too old to change at this point. Enjoy your winter, I hope you get the chance to hike a bit.

Ditty bag - YES PLEASE! That’s where I pick up my extra weight. What to bring, what not to bring, how much? I get stuck on the ‘might need’ and unsure about finding stuff along the way. Help! If you don’t do an actual video, send or put out a list. Do you carry Leuko tape and tenacious tape and duct tape? How much first aid bandaids & blister stuff etc. That’s where I get bogged down.

I watched the whole gear review with interest but was disappointed you didn’t talk about your neck knife. I’ve noticed it on your videos and think every outdoors person should have at least a pocket knife. But I haven’t seen hikers wearing neck knives before. Is that one super light weight? 10:47 Trekking poles are very useful, but definitely not a necessity. Anybody can walk without trekking poles. I have never used them when hiking, although I would. Hell, they didn't even exist 30 years ago. Before that if you needed more support when hiking, you had to use a walking stick.

    Charger Anker Nano USB C ... 1.1 ounces .. 20 bucks
    Battery T-Core 10k (digital readout) --> 30% per hr .. 32 bucks
make sure you get fast charge cables that can handle the volt amperes
two nanos are better than 1 double input charger, because multi-load plugs reduce the actual charge speed, and at 1.1 ounces the nanos are often lighter and you can fast load two devices at the same time
