- This video shows how to connect the IKEA TRÅDFRI Remote Control to a Philips Hue Bridge. Many Zigbee compliant smart controls can be paired to a Philips Hue bridge. Accessories like sensors and switches from 3rd party manufacturers look difficult to connect. Touchlink in Hue Essentials app can solve your challenge.

Thanks for this guide! I did struggle with it initially though as i would first:
1. Reset & pair the remote with the hue bridge using the method in this video
2. Reset the IKEA light by toggling it on & off six times in a row
3. waiting for the light to reset (stop flashing)
4. pair it with the Hue Bridge
5. pair it with the remote
After pairing it with the hue bridge (step 4) it was working with the hue bridge but after pairing the light with the remote (step 5) it would stop working with the hue bridge and was only working with the remote.
What i finally ended up doing was:
1. Reset & pair the remote with the hue bridge (touchlink)
2. Reset the light and wait for it to stop flashing
3. Pair the light with the remote (by shutting off the light, then holding the button under the remote and turning the light on)
4. Pair the light with the hue bridge (by shutting off the light, pressing search on the hue bridge via the app and turning the light on)
Then the lights would work with both the remote as well as being controlled via the hue bridge (and the app).

I spent like 4 evenings trying to pair a Tradfri remote + bulb on a Hue bridge, and I would always end up losing the link to the first one paired (the app). The same procedure with the simple on/off switch worked perfectly though...

Touch link doesn’t appear on iOS
I can't get the control to work, no matter how many times I try to connect it. I find the lights, but I can't get the ikea control to control the lights at the same time.
After adding the lights, can I manage the Hue from its app? I will make the purchase based on your answer.
I tried exactly same steps, either hue app works or the remote not both unfortunately

Hi! Can I see or control the bulbs on alexa or hue app after that ? I purchased premium. I have hue bridge, trasfri controller ikea and hue bulbs. I ve tried touchlink It worked. But after that I couldt control the bulb on hue app or alexa
doesn't seem to work (anymore, because the last year it worked just fine) with Hue bulbs (Hue hub, Hue bulb and Ikea remote)
It still works but it remains difficult. Timing and the right order is the issue. Check the link in description to the community.

1:00 doesn't happen for me. The Hue bulb never blinks and the light on the Tradfri switch never blinks.
The last year it worked with several lights, it seems like some Hue bulb update broke the Tradfri switch compatibility with a full Hue system.

What we have seen from videos users sent us, is that often the device is not literally on top of the other device. This results in bad / partial pairing.
After several attempts i managed to connect the Button to the bridge and to one single Hue playbar. As I have two of them - can i connect more than one device?
This does not work for me. I followed the steps shown in the video, but no light could be found when I press search for lights. I have tried searching several times. Any idea what might be the problem? The firmware of the Trådfri remote and the Hue Bridge is of the latest version
First make sure that the remote connects properly to the bridge. Lights will not be found if this step fails. Check the video on this step.
I don't they use touchlink anymore or is this different for iOS?

I had it working for over a year with 4 lights on a Hue bridge and a Ikea remote. I recently bought a new light and wanted to add it.
I took the opportunity to update the firmware of all lights and the remote. Now I'm not able to get it working anymore.
I'm able to pair the remote to the bridge & lamp. At this stage I can control the bulb with the remote.
When I search the light it is found and added, but I'm no longer able to control it with the remote. Hue control via the app is OK.
How can this be solved?
Can you get in touch with support@hueessentials.com and let us know more about the firmware version of bulbs/remote, please? We are unaware of this issue which may be related to newer firmware.
I'm having the same issue with my remotes. It works for 10 seconds, but when i open the hue app and it finds the bulb, the remote suddenly stops working
Sometimes waiting a few minutes restores this. We do not know why it won't work for everyone at this stage.
Any update on this? Bought a Trådfri Switch yesterday and this problem is driving me crazy 🙈
Please hold the remote directly on top of your bridge when pairing and the same goes during pairing with the light. Hold it very, very near your light bulb. Keep other Zigbee lights switched off during this.
I think I found a bug... with IKEA lights after I connect TRÅDFRI Remote to hue bridge: It doesn't work quite well with the scenes I had previously made in hue app. The bug is that when I switch scenes which include both hue and ikea lamps, the scene change does not change the color and intensity for ikea bulbs the first time you chose the scene, so you must press the scene icon again. However if the scene selection were to turn the ikea bulbs on or off, that will work on the first press... it's just that the color and intensity changes require two presses on the scene.
Can you please confirm and release a fix?
I have followed the steps in this video and was able to get the controller with work with Hue lightbulbs. However I was unable to make the controller to connect with Hue Play Light Bars. Am I doing something wrong?
Have you tried to switch off and on the Play Bars before pairing and did you hold them very close (on top of them)?
So just to clarify, you aren't actually pairing the tradfri remote with Hue (which would mean Hue is aware of the remote and would allow you to control various things with it). You're connecting the bulbs to Hue and the remote interacts with the bulbs directly (as is the standard tradfri setup)?
You pair the remote with the Hue bridge but it is not shown as when you would pair an original Philips Hue smart control. Then you pair this remote to the bulbs. As the remote is known by the bridge, and you do a "search for lights" in Hue Essentials, the bridge finds the lights which are in the mesh through the remote.
I'm new to smart lighting and looking to the possibilities.
Question about this video: why adding it to the bridge and also connect to the bulb?
To me it sounds more logical to connect to the bridge and then in the app define actions to the remote control like what button should do what. Or it hat not possible using the Hue bridge/app?
The background of this solution is that the Philips Hue bridge supports no Trådfri devices like switches or motion sensors, etc. The workaround makes sure you can make them functional to a certain point. Needless to say: walking this path is more challenging than pairing standard Philips Hue devices to the bridge.
Hey there, I tried it like it’s shown in the video. Unfortunately it is not working. I tried your app and also another one to enable touch link. The tradfri remote is not found during touchlink search. I’ve reseted the remote beforehand and tried it a couple of times. The remote also do not show the red led while I’m holding the connect button. But it flashes after 4x pressing und I’m able to connect it to different bulbs. What am I doing wrong? Or has ikea or Philips changed something? Thanks for the video anyway. Ideas are welcome!
Make sure the firmware is the latest available when still connected to a Trådfri Gateway. Also, update firmware of Philips Hue bridge.
After that try it again. After reset of remote control wait at least 10 seconds. Tap the Touchlink several times/search for lights at the right moment. Watch video closely! Red lights should work or it will fail. Make sure other lights are physically off (unpowered) when connecting to Hue bridge to prevent Touchlink to bulbs at wrong time.
Do you first have to connect the bulb to the bridge before pairing the remote?
And what if you have multiple bulbs, do you first pair them to bridge or after you've paired the remote?
Just follow the video. First you pair the remote to the bridge, then you pair the remote to the light(s) one by one. If you would pair lights to the bridge directly, then the lights cannot be controlled by the remote.
Pairing works, and my lights can be controlled through the hue app. However, the remote itself does not function physically anymore, which means I have to control my lights through the app, and not using the physical tradfri switch. Is this a bug or sth?
Then pairing was done incorrectly. Have you also read the instructions below the video in the description? The steps come very precise.
I have the same issues as others, have done everything several times as in the guide. But I am worried my IKEA remote is a bit old, the button on the back does not look exaclty the same. It is out of rubber and not plastic as in your video. Small detail, but maybe it is the remote. I am trying to connect to trådfri drivers and controlling them with the IKEA remote. But I get unreachable everytime i pair the remote to the bulb.
We used the new version on the app. Old one has rubber. Both work.
You say they became unreachable. This means they got connected earlier. It will not find these lights in a search as they are in your configuration already. Unreachable now means, after your attempt, it did not connect in good order.
The bridge could not find the drivers. We think the pairing between the remote and the bridge did not go alright. As a remote is not shown on a Philips bridge, it is difficult to judge when you are pairing and eager to know results.
So, focus on the remote. Are the LED responses of the remote the same as in the video? Press Touchlink multiple times if needed.
Keep other zigbee lights disconnected from power when you do Touchlink! Just to make sure they do not get paired instead.

Hey! I got it to connect to the light but can only torn on or off and dim but not change colour...?
Also it works with the switch but not anymore with the app...
If only the switch works, then initial pairing with the bridge went wrong. Always wait awhile after the whole setup as the bridge may pick up the set a bit later.

Especially afterwards the pairing of the light as well. We heard that some bridges took some minutes.
Seems like the option of adding "other" in the hue app has been removed in the latest versions of the app. I have IKEA lights installed in the kitchen and tried an endless amount of time to connect them to the new hue bridge i bought. Then i got the IKEA gateway to try to connect them to the "hue essentilas" app, but it turns out i had to pay and extra fee to have both gateway and the bridge in the same app, but even after that i still couldn't syncronize the tradfri and the hue light in routines and schedules.
SO if anyone is considering to get smart lights, i would advise to choose one system. To me it seems right now that you get a lot more from tradfri right now (you can add music through sonos speakers to your saves sceans and you get a almost all of the extra features from the philips system if you add a google home assisten to your system).
Mixing components from both systems on one bridge is not always the smoothest ride. The only reason to get Trådfri on your Hue bridge is because it is a lot cheaper.
Perhaps Philips Hue removed options to add other hardware. You can still add third party Zigbee hardware in Hue Essentials.
IKEA made lots of high impact changes to their gateway recently and they are still very limited in options and commands take long to process. Can you link more than one light to the same controller and have them both work? (by that I mean have both the bulbs at the same time work under the one remote or will I have to buy 2 of them?)
You can pair the remote to more lights on one controller. Do a search for lights afterwards again. Read through comments and replies on our Trådfri videos for getting more insight.

Can't connect the Trådfri dimmer to the Hue bridge. Followed the video - bought the premium.... Didn't help. I hide you have updated the software since my app looks a little different. I have no idea about firmware version of the dimmer. I do not want to buy the Ikea gateway to tjeck/update....
You can find out more about the firmware roughly when you check the packaging code which is based on a date. If it it recent, no problems.
More important, put the dimmer right on top of the bridge when pairing and right on top of the light bulb when pairing.

Philips Hue remains the best.
I did this, i worked like a charm for 2minutes, now the remote doesn't work with the ikea light anymore (but the light is still working with the hue bridge)
Sometimes this happens. Try and pair it again.

@@SmartFusionLabs yes these do match it seems to work. then the bulb pairing seem fine to, but as soon as i press search for lights and they get added to app, remote stops working, only the app does
What happens if you try and pair the remote with the Hue bridge again? So, press and hold the pairing button on remote very close to the bridge and hit touchlink.
Hi, I had no problem getting the Trådfri dimmer to work with lights and bridge but I can’t change color with my remote only in app.. with remote I can dim up/down and turn on/off lights.. are you supposed to be able to change colors also?

With the round IKEA remote you'd of course want to use the left/right buttons to switch between HUE scenes. Has anyone figured out how to do that??
We had some issues with the same buttons on a different bridge (Phoscon using deCONZ). See recent post on community.hueessentials.com. Not sure whether this helps out on a Philips Hue bridge. Otherwise, post your question there, too.

You should be able to control it as the light bulb is linked to the bridge and seen by the bridge directly. It is a mesh network. If your light is non-Philips Hue, check for HomeKit compatibility first with its manufacturer.
no the IKEA bubls wont work in HomeKit anymore, but you could use Homebdrige to fix that
Can i controll a group of bulbs with the remote? i want to get a ceiling lamp with 4 tradfri bulbs, and i want to dimm them with 1 remote. Is this possible?
Possible yes. When you are at the point of adding a light to the smart control, then just pair the next light after it. It may be tricky. You may even have to switch them on one by one to make sure you can easily pair the next one.
Is it possible to add more than one bulb to the same remote controller?
Yes, just hold the remote near the next bulb as you did on the first one. See the questions and answers on all the videos of the smart controls.
Hello. After this process, can I also see it Amazon Alexa app?
The Amazon Alexa won’t receive the details of the smart control from your Philips Hue bridge. The lights should be recognised by Alexa if they work in Hue Essentials.
Your video is out of date and not helpful. There are different variations to make it possible. They say the light should be off when searching for the bulb. That didn’t work either. I paid the app but it didn’t make sense
