Looking forward to the rest of this series. I just binged Rings of Power and this is hitting a sweet spot. Also the low fantasy/low stakes nature of this game is a chill sort of departure from Final Fantasy level world saving in D&D with magic out the wazoo. It's sorta cozy too if you like LotR.👍
I don't know if players were spending hope, but remember that players can spend hope to add an extra success die and they can use features perhaps to add 2 extra success dice when they spend hope.
Players can also spend hope to help another character in a Skill roll (if they narrate how they do so), it adds an extra success die to the pool of the acting character.
Been a LOTR megafan all my life, know all the lore, all the world, read the books and seen the movies dozens of dozens of times, but only realized I had been pronouncing Eriador and so many other things totally wrong the entire time when I went to run a game of this 😅
So what is the difference between lines abd veils? I assume that lines are "let's not have this happen at all kthnxbai", so does that mean veils in turn are "we can have this, just don't push it too far"?
After talking it over, I'm going to give as written combat a shot. It doesn't match the tone of Tolkien's work based on test runs, but I want to try it! If it doesn't work out we might switch to the one I mentioned. I found it in the One Ring Discord resources. Here is the copy I made: drive.google.com/file/d/1QiZqC6etyZ3v7Sl1KP_TUX2KfCjd3O26/view?usp=sharing
@@HappyJacksRPG okay. I like the standard rules for the one ring, but these are an interesting alternative. The standard rules imo do seem to fit Tolkien and still result in either very heroic combat scenes or times the heroes need to run.
I would say that Hobbits are not any more long lived than humans and it is probably about as common to see a 100 year old Hobbit as it is to see a 100 year old man. And Duindain are obvs very long lived and they are human.
The fun thing about JRR Tolkien he would never "umm actually" you on how to pronounce his words and locations. So pronounce the words however you want.
So glad I found you all! Cant believe it took me this long to look for LotR live plays! Ive made my nest of blankets and im here to stay 😊
Welcome!

Glad you are liking it! Tolkien-cozy is def the vibe we are going for!
Nice intro, really sets the mood!

YOU KNOW MY PAIN!! 😂 💖 High five to book lovers!
I thought Eriador was "Airy-uh-door" or maybe replacing the "uh" with an "ah" like in axe. But I dunno now.

Yep! Often veils are fade to black moments where we know what happens but it isn’t explicitly described or RPed out.
What's the name of the tool used for the map again?
@@ofidiotabagista5259 Jamboard. Sadly, Google is doing away with it in the next few months. 😭
@@HappyJacksRPG Oh, well...
At least I can start my search with "alternatives to Jamboard" instead of going in blind.
Thanks.
Where is the link to that Tolkien Style Combat?

@@MRdaBakkle We are going to give standard a shot! I think a lot of it is in how the GM/Players describe it.
I have a theory that Tolkien wrote combat as little as possible because of his experience with the Great War. Maybe it brought on bad memories.
That is my theory as well. It makes sense!
