I wanted to offer a deep, heartfelt thanks to the GCN crew. Joe's remark at about the 90 minute mark was really gratifying. I wrote this adventure you're playing and to see the enthusiasm and delight you're all showing and embracing makes it worth all the work ten times over. Kudos to all of you and your wonderful roleplaying. Also, Alicia Marie's Lobelia is an absolute (if you'll forgive the owl pun) a hoot.
@aliciamarie I love that you shared that "It's a rough road but you are the one meant to go through this. No one else can go through it for you." 11:50 Sometimes life can feel impossibly difficult. But those are wise words to find the strength within myself to take one more step.
I have seen almost all of the 'new game who dis' videos by now. One thing that always makes me smile is how INCREDIBLY psyched, positive and jacked Joe is. Cheers from Sweden!
I watched all 3 extended cuts of LotR in one day. I worked at a video store and could have 3 movies out at a time for free so i got them on my day off. It was an emotional rollercoaster. I had read the Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit many times so i was emotionally invested in it. I laughed, I cried, I took bathroom and meal breaks. Good times. I regret not seeing them in the theater, but i think it was more personal to see them in one lump sum.
They’re back in Marcus theaters now. The extended versions! At the end, you can watch all of them in one glorious 12+ hour day if you’re crazy like that.
I love Joe's wig. After seeing hundreds of hours of his face, that hair looks so right on him. Also, Alicia's origin story with Willow really took me back. That was also one of the first fantasy movies I saw. OMG - PLEASE MAKE SKID KEEP PLAYING BILBO!
The GCN has knocked this out of the park once again. I felt like I was listening to a lost Lord of the Rings audio drama. It's that good. Granted it was a little slow at the beginning and this cast had some sillier moments... but they're playing hobbits, that encourages the people playing to be silly. This game is wonderful. I'm kind of interested in whether or not there is a character creation within this game. The original characters are so fun because you can interpret them how you want to, but the group is really into making sure these hobbits feel like they fit into the world. I really appreciate that. I'm excited to see the next episode. Keep up the great work ladies and gentlemen!
Running this for my friends this weekend, had to watch the master Skid himself run it. Absolutely phenomenal arc, special way to send NGWD out with a bang. Grant, love you and miss you, hope life is treating you well!!
Upon hearing it was set in Hobbiton I was waiting for everyone's finest West Country accent; "O'er, 'ows about that then?", "Whatchya been doin' all locked up in this girt 'ouse?" Instead we get prime upper-class English, well and Joe's Scottish accent; "Why I do say - what a splendidly marv-el-ous house darling.", "Bilbo? Bilbo? Do be a dear and explain why you have gathered us all here today." Hilarious, but awesome.
I thought that at first, but in the movies only Sam is West Country, Pip is Scottish, Merry is Northern and Frodo is a bit upper-class, so the gang are here are paying a decent homage to the movies!
This was amazing, you could tell that everyone thoroughly enjoying themselves and enthusiastic which made the show much more enjoyable. Skids living his dream running this game and I'd up my patron just to listen to this as a permanent show
I decided to check out the One Ring after seeing this episode (thank you so much for putting this together by the way), and I was very impressed. Another great book to add to my collection. My wife is currently GMing more cinematic RPGs, such as City of Mist, while I GM Pathfinder 2e. This game is such a fun mix between cinematic (or narrative in this case) and crunchy for LOTR enthusiasts (which we both are). I would love to see more games like this!
Just discovered NGWD and have really been loving working my way through all the episodes of all the games you've done. May I suggest you guys check out Blades In The Dark. It's such an amazing game and I think the NGWD crew would knock out of the park.
I'll second you go check out the Stream of Blood, where Jared created several crews. I like all of them, but the one with Troy, Joe and Ross is the best.
Loved it, but, I gotta admit - the last "New Game" I watched was the Twilight 2000, and I kept imagining this as some sort of mash-up. "You approach the bombed-out ruins of Michel Delving..."
Oh man Joes recommendation to hop on and see this was a great, great recommendation - I wish I could have been a fly on the call for seeing the awesome costumes and then going “wait what!!!!”
Loved the first episode and am fondly looking towards the next. Some missed rules which would have helped out the characters, but fantastic role play on every scale. An absolute pleasure to watch!
Love the Lord of the Rings and middle earth I started reading it on 5th grade and from there started into Shannara, then Warhammer and Pathfinder finally D&D. Now I am much more into 40K and Call of Cuthulu but this brings me back.
Another place name trivia: Crickhollow is inspired by Crickhowell in Wales. A lot of the place names are derived from Welsh place names - Mitchel Troy has a similar structure as Michel Delving, for example.
The animated film was my introduction when i was eight or nine i think. my sister and i, she (11/12ish) she had started reading the books, our mums copy/
One Ring was where my tabletop RPG adventures began! I remember being so confused about this game when I first played. Though it was the first version.
3 more of these?? Did Skid misspeak or is it gonna be a 4 parter?? Dont get me wrongI would 1000% like this campain to be as long ad possible. Everyone is so delighted to play, it really shows
Rules are a bit wrong. A unique travel equipment always gives you a bonus die for free to the skill in ( ). Under normal circumstances a player can spend hope to gain one bonus die, and if they use one of their distinctive features on any skill roll they can become inspired and spending a hope adds 2d6 to the roll.
My problem with Middle-earth is it`s mostly a vast, empty space. I`ve played Merp some 30 years ago and despite lots of modules this feeling remains. Example, 3rd age, whats between Bree and Rivendell? Recently a group of friends played the one ring and they came out with the exact same feeling of a vast emptiness.
The way I understand it - yes. Using her Keen-Eyed Distinction would have given her inspiration as well, giving her an extra success die, (hope). With all that, she should have rolled 2 Feat die and 3 success dice.
I have a question though. So in this game, the TN is written on your sheet, so you can determine if you succeeded with a roll or not. Does this then mean that there are no different difficilties to checks, since the TN is always just the same? I.e. if you want to awe Sauron or awe a local farmer, do these rolls have the same difficulty? Thanks for the answers.
@Full City Games Okay, I see. How does the DM get to manipulate the dice pool? Isn't that only influenced by the ticked boxes on the character sheet? I am noob, in case you were wondering :)
@Full City Games that feels a little punishing to me, doesn't players feel accomplished when they get new ticks and thus new success dice? I am not sure I like to see that taken away, even temporarily. But If I understand it correctly, the Loremaster can just say "okay, you are trying to awe Sauron himself, you lose 3 success dice for the roll", is this it?
You guys talk about Tolkien moments being, "So metal," yet you fail to mention Blind Guardian's song, "The Lord of the Rings", or their album (one of the best power metal albums ever recorded) "Nightfall in Middle Earth". Check it out if you have not.
Brought up on a hill under jet fighter flight path. We cried every time they passed. As our mother soothed us she would call them the Nazguls. 1st books I read. Asked her about the orcs “slanty eyed/dark skinned” she said Tolkin’s words were ugly not the orcs.
Time to have a drink everytime they say Alicia's name wrong. Lol Like for real though how with all the fantasy names they must say is Alicia's name so difficult. Love the crew and Alicia.
Pipeweed was good in the 2960s. Not that ‘drop you in one’ hydro ‘dab on a nail’ nonsense all you modern Hobbits enjoy. (Shakes small furry fist at sky)
Free league tend to have lots of pictures and dead space in the books they make. Creating an over priced book who's rules can be condensed into 75 or so pages. That's why I'll never buy the game. However, MERPS from Iron Crown wad a great game.
I wanted to offer a deep, heartfelt thanks to the GCN crew. Joe's remark at about the 90 minute mark was really gratifying. What a wonderful comment. Thank you for checking us out James! Messages like this are why we play!
This is why the Glass Cannon and Naish are the best community in gaming!
This could literally just be a series of Skid reading the Lord of the Rings and doing all the voices and I'd watch it
Perfect. Simply perfect. I can only hope that Skid gets a chance to run an extended campaign of The One Ring. Thank you.
@aliciamarie I love that you shared that "It's a rough road but you are the one meant to go through this. No one else can go through it for you." 11:50
Sometimes life can feel impossibly difficult. But those are wise words to find the strength within myself to take one more step.
I love Skid's expression. It emotes, "Ahhhh, I've finally come home." lol
I have to say...what an excellent atmospheric and knowledgeable GM/Loremaster. He really made the actual play - great job!
I realise I may be a TAD late to the party!
Better late than never!
@@TheGlassCannon11 days after previous comment, I agree Skid kills it here. I’m a TAD plus 11 days late to the party.
I have seen almost all of the 'new game who dis' videos by now. One thing that always makes me smile is how INCREDIBLY psyched, positive and jacked Joe is. Cheers from Sweden!
The scene introduction was AWESOME!!!!! Brought me back...
I love Hobbits and the Shire so much! Every loveable mundane moment spent there is a stark reminder of what all the fighting was for.
20:35 for those who just want to watch the adventure. Loved the video all.
Thank you!

How did I miss this special episode !
I love Joe's wig. After seeing hundreds of hours of his face, that hair looks so right on him.

My wife got me the entire collection of the Extended Cut, and we are throughly enjoying it.

Stellar playthrough and tons of fun 🥰 Excellent group and Game Master - Ty ty all 🥰
Been waiting for this one.
Kate looks so lovely like this. She would have made a perfect Rosa!
Skid I would have played M.E.R.P. with you for sure.
A crunchy and not entirely great representation of LOTR but I have some great memories of MERP as my first RP experience.
OOOOOMMMMGGGGG this is HAPPENING!
Very nicely played by everyone. A lovely and funny little starter adventure.
Upon hearing it was set in Hobbiton I was waiting for everyone's finest West Country accent; "O'er, 'ows about that then?", "Whatchya been doin' all locked up in this girt 'ouse?"

This is so delightful!

This was a lot of fun and Skid was fantastic.

I was unaware. Thanks for the heads up. Going to check it out now!

This is great stuff, GCN! It's delightful to see you enjoying TOR 2e and the Starter Box!
25 minutes in and I already love skid!
Oh man Joes recommendation to hop on and see this was a great, great recommendation - I wish I could have been a fly on the call for seeing the awesome costumes and then going “wait what!!!!”
I like this GM
Ralph Bakshi’s Nazgûl we’re sooo much scarier than Peter Jackson’s electronic squealing attempt!
LMAO Kate thinking the books are going to answer so many questions!!!
Interbred Grant not intertwined...lol.....Fun first episode and next week an extra special person joins the budding adventure crew....
I got to play a session or two of this a few years back with some friends it was a blast. Love this system.
I loved the reveal of the horrible hound.
Good Huston imitation

An owl pestering your wife? This some kind of "The Staircase:Shire Edition"
I.
Love.
Skid.

This is "National Treasure" with hobbits...!
Man, how or where do we make a request to the GCN crew for a full TOR campaign!?
The intro reminds me of the 70's cartoon version of LOTR.
Which seems to be what they were going for.
Where is Skid's movie podcast? I'd love to listen to that between eps
20:47 chills
So good!
Somehow Im imagining Jo in college playing beer pong and listening to Nirvana. Not sure why...
"Some may say, I couldn't possibly comment" - Would that happen to be a reference to the original British version of House of Cards?
Combats must be super light for-this party…

Couldnt Lobelia use Hope to boost her failure to success? Is rhat rule gone?
The way I understand it - yes. Using her Keen-Eyed Distinction would have given her inspiration as well, giving her an extra success die, (hope). With all that, she should have rolled 2 Feat die and 3 success dice.
Ever play MERPs, Skid?

Seemed like the Loremaster wasn't very master of rules lore
I always thought farthing sounded too alike farting LOL
Time to have a drink everytime they say Alicia's name wrong. Lol
Like for real though how with all the fantasy names they must say is Alicia's name so difficult.
Love the crew and Alicia.
Kate, I'm literally begging you: please, read another book. Literally any other book.
The Hobbit is an excellent choice for literally any other book! Great choice!
Pipeweed was good in the 2960s. Not that ‘drop you in one’ hydro ‘dab on a nail’ nonsense all you modern Hobbits enjoy. (Shakes small furry fist at sky)

would u ever wear wigs?
wish i could get paid to watch the lord of the rings. I can be funny too XD
For me it was MERP, my first RPG. It made D&D boring for me, as much substance as a Saturday morning cartoon.
Players who don't look bored, good humor, AND no pronouns. Yes please!
Would love for them to do MERP (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Middle-earth_Role_Playing) also.
Try "Against the Darkmaster". Same game but with streamlined rules.
Cant watch anything with Kate Stamm in it.
