Me and my sister were walking with my mother when we were kids and she was catcalled, immediately after she told us never to scream back bc they might get angry and hurt us, I've never forgotten that, the fact she even had to teach primary school kids that is scary, catcalling, whistling etc doesn't just make someone uncomfortable, it can scare them and make them feel unsafe and like they aren't human, it's 100% harrasment

Happened to my mom, my sister, and I as well. Except she wasn’t the only one getting catcalled, my sister and I were as well. She was in fifth grade and I was a sophomore in high school. There’s a heck of a lot of problems in the world that could be solved by parents restricting or even just keeping an eye on what their kids do on the internet.
When I was at prime ‘getting traumatised by stuff on the Internet’ age, I had to use UA-cam Kids, and you know what? I absolutely hated it, with a passion. But you know what else? I reached teenage years without even being aware of any kids fandom gore, the elsagate stuff, I managed to duck it all since I wasn’t allowed on the part of the platform where that was taking place. In short, keep an eye on your kids’ internet access, because while they may not appreciate it at the time they sure as heck will 5-10 years down the line.

I have seen teachers talk about the twelve year old boys in their class being violently disrespectful towards the girls in their classes and then start talking about how great Andrew Tate is. Maybe it’s not affecting his older fan base as much but those young boys who are following him are becoming violent hateful people and are going to get a harsh wake-up call if they continue this behavior when they end up in jail or getting seriously injured.

The boys in my class worshipped Clay, quoted all his misogynistic jokes, and taunted the girls with sexual innuendoes. At least ADC was just a caricature... But this Tate guy's caricature has become his life. It won't end well.

My brother tried to show me a clip of Andrew Tate talking about the roles women should play, and then tried to laugh it off that he was joking. He was so upset when I said that he had the privilege of laughing at jokes about women being in the kitchen or assaulting women because he doesn't have to live in that world every single day. He was really defensive about men's mental health (I'm a mental healthcare work btw) and how women just get to hate men in general, and I was like "Well, yeah, because every woman you know probably has been sexually harassed or worse. When it's some men and more men not standing up to those men, it becomes all men and women have to be scared overall until they feels safe with certain men."

The problem with the whole catcalling thing is that the guys that do it are much more likely to do other harassing things that are a threat to a woman’s personal safety. It’s not the whistling itself, it signifies a mindset that is rightly perceived as dangerous at night, alone, as a woman.

    • @irisa7747

it’s also just the fact that women and femme presenting people generally just can’t go out in public doing normal ass things without being made to feel uncomfortable. literally was walking my dog today and had a guy who was with his dog and a child tell me he wanted to go home with me 🙃 like that just ruins my mood and makes me feel super uncomfortable.

    • @PokeJoltz
      @PokeJoltz 2 роки тому +53

It's cat calling and following around/to your car even in broad daylight in front of people. It's refusing to leave them alone after they already told you to stop. It's creating multiple accounts on social media to find and message you even when you block them. It's "he's only picking on you because he likes you." It's not cute, it's not quirky, it isn't innocent. If you let your buddies do this shit, you need to re-evaluate and either get new friends or work on why you feel the need to enable someone no matter how they act. If you raise your kids thinking any of that is okay you are just as bad if not worse. It's not "the way it is" or "how it's done" it's teaching predatory ideals and tactics.

Idk. For me it’s even the whistling. EXCUSE ME SIR I don’t wanna be whistled at just because I dare to exist. Even when I look like a mess people have the audacity to catcall, because it’s not about how I look, it’s about how they don’t see any woman (conventionally beautiful, or not) as anything more than an object that is there only for them to check it out and whistle if it’s ok. Disgusting. Im so tired of this.

The only thing that helps me stay in my mind (girls and guys and non binary pals, if catcalling hurts you just as it hurts me, this may help) is thinking one thought. If they catcall you even when you look average, no bikini or high heels (and they do), this means they do it to basically EVERY woman they see, because there’s no actual difference between you and the other ones. And it really makes me laugh like crazy thinking about the poor guy that goes “ohhhh sexy”, has no reaction, then goes to the next woman, goes like “ohhh sexy” again, and 100 times like that… man, just like install tinder or something

In the part where Tate says that you must bear responsibility if you put yourself in a position where you could get sexually abused, he is absolutely wrong. We see victim-blaming like this far too often in questions like, "Well what were you wearing?" The truth is, it doesn't matter what someone is wearing, and even if they were wearing something that is tight, or revealing, if you as an adult man, cannot control yourself, you should not be accepted into society. We shouldn't have to live in a world, where women are scared to wear a piece of clothing because they might get sexually abused.

It was 4 separate incidents in the single journey home. She then cried on the phone to me how people were replying to her story that she shouldn't have been alone at night, she shouldn't have worm pretty clothes (it was a work party so she wasn't wearing anything "inappropriate") and how if she didn't want them talking to her she should have just said so. The allegations of him beating or sexually harassing women is false
The woman who was “beaten” actually addressed the whole situation and corrected everyone that it was a s*xplay, not abuse made by Andrew Tate, what you’re not hearing is that he said in his final message that he built an orphanage and a dog shelter to combat stray dog and orphan problems in Romania, because “normal” people won’t clip that, they’ll only clip the out of context and now his meaning behind what he says, like when he says something like “women are property” he really means “men should treat their women like they treat their property, take good care and make sure she’s okay and he wants men to be strong, intelligent and protective to women, but obviously 12-year-old kids don’t get the message and they take masculinity way too far making the idea look bad, and this UA-camr only looked at the negatives, notice how there’s no positives or any videos of tate responding to these allegations, people want to hear both sides to form their own opinion, that doesn’t happen in videos most times because UA-cam and other social media sites will silence the positives of Andrew tate and only leave the negatives, which if realized by the general population, would give the internet CEOs a really bad reputation, you can go watch Andrew Tate’s final message video if you want to find out what he truly means behind what he says in all of his podcasts

I have Googled about what you said Andrew Tate did as "good" and there are no credible sources about it. You can't convince anyone about his "good intentions" if he himself propagated all the bad stuff on the Internet.
Inabber did a decent investigation about the whole situation and he didn't "just promoted bad stuff about Andrew Tate". He showed proof of everything he was claiming Andrew Tate did. He was also saying when something was strictly his opinion or when something it is just "claimed" and not confirmed.
Also if you say half of your ideas the way Andrew Tate does and then say "oh but he really meant this and and not this" it is stupid to do. You either tell your whole idea completely or don't. Even having these stuff said this way is harming for young boys who have no good role model and they try to understand how to navigate the world. It is not healthy to take advantage of young people/ vulnerable people like this so you can pay your expensive yacht vacation for an instagram post.
Also, claiming that the girl addressed the situation after saying it was just "play" it doesn't proof anything. She might've addressed the situation like this out of fear for what Andrew Tate could do against her. Being a victim of assa*lt is a hard thing to process and every victim of this, regardless of gender, find a hard time coming out and talking about it.

In the 90s , I had this one extreemly great male friend who I could trust with my life. Thank God! No matter what I wore, no matter how drunk I got. He kept baddies at bay and would even take me to a hotel, pay for my room, carry me in and say goodnight. He locked the door and left. He would come back and pick me up to take me home the next morning, with NO expectations except friendship.
You have no idea how many of my female friends envied that. I will be forever grateful to him as long as I live. Unfortunately he was a rarity back then.
People like A.T. need to go back to the stone age where they belong. Their language alone makes me want to vomit and yeet him from the planet.
He has no clue how hard it is to live as a female in this world because of people like him.

The biggest thing to remember when speaking to people under the influence of people like Andrew or other figures seen as leaders is that any form of belittling their beliefs or choices will only make them double down out of shame and fear of being ridiculed. It’s hard not to tell someone who likes these people that they are dumb or being duped but it will be even harder to help them when you do. Instead, talk them through those ideas and beliefs and guide them through the conversation to the fallacies by having them answer the harder questions and truths. Bring up interesting things you read or watched that are informative and suggest it without saying, “Well, this says you’re wrong”. Use instead, “”I saw this really good article about that on this site and I think you would really like it.” Anyways, that’s kind of how I do it, and while it doesn’t end up changing their mind right away, I find it plants those seeds where the person becomes a bit more aware of what they are consuming and how they respond.

Yes, its often the guys who feel belittled and ridiculed by the world who tend to follow these ideologies. Insulting them only serves to feed into their narrative that the world is against them and that they're justified in following Tate and his influences. Talking though it with them is often the best way to make them see a little bit more of reality. It takes several talks at several different times to fully pull them out of this trash ideology, but it can happen and it is possible to help them out. These followers tend to be wholly unaware of how their behavior and words come across in the "standard social environment" so explaining it from the point of view of someone who doesn't understand their thought process will almost never work, as they often feel very "othered" by people who don't understand their thought process. You have to kind of get on their social level and explain it from there for them to understand it better. Also, stating that you're in relationship will not help either lol they will just get more bitter that you've somehow managed to "get a girl" even though you're "putting them down". Talking through things with incels and people who follow Tate is a dangerous path filled with verbal and social landmines.

So I coach a bunch of young kids and some of the 11-13 year old boys were talking about Andrew Tate, saying things like “I love him! He’s hilarious!” And I yelled at them for it. They weren’t aware of all the horrible things he’s done and said they followed him because “what he says is so ridiculous it’s funny!” And they “don’t actually believe what he says” but after explaining why they shouldn’t support this man, they promised me they would stop watching him (don’t know how much I believe that).
Moral of the story it’s scary how young his audience actually is.

I was able to ignore it for a while, but it eventually got to me and had a huge toll on my mental health. Recently I believe I got it almost fully handled, but that's yet to be determined. It's a horrible feeling to have that happen to you, and for a long while I hated and was disgusted with myself for letting it happen, although it was out of my control, even after every time I asked them to stop. Please, never ever do this. Even as a joke. it may affect others on different levels, but overall it's a negative experience for the victim.
For the time I handled it I was too scared to speak up cause I didn't think something at such a 'low level' could qualify as that kind of harassment. Although its mostly handled now, I am always so paranoid that if I were to explain the actions irl to someone, they would just blow it off bc they're 'just joking around'

I've had people wolf whistle and then assault me by throwing things at me from their car. How am I supposed to know /you specifically/ won't do that?
Also you don't know how old the person you're cat calling is. I was 14 when it started happening to me.

    • @seyeon_knee
      @seyeon_knee 2 роки тому +36

Its also scary because if you're willing to openly and outwardly sexualize a stranger whose age and life circumstances you don't know, then that shows a complete lack of regard for that person's boundaries. Men (or people in general, but in these cases its mostly men) who have no regard for other people's boundaries tend to be capable of doing horrible things without feeling much regret or responsibility (SA, violence, harassment, stalking, taking advantage of others, statutory, etc), and unfortunately many of them do end up doing those things. It shows a lack of regard for the person's circumstances, age, and boundaries, and thus a lack of regard for the person's humanity. Its gross and creepy and it makes people feel unsafe.
You're totally right, i's not the whistling that's the problem. It's the mindset and the fact that people think it's acceptable to do it. Under what circumstances is it okay to sexualize a stranger to their face in public and feel no shame for that? I, personally, don't think it's okay to do that to anyone at any time in any place. It takes some real audacity to do that, and that audacity leads to other actions that harm women, femme-presenting people, and LGBTQIA+ people (as well as men, but often in different ways).

On wolf whistling, I've found a good way to explain it is, people who think it's not a big deal have typically never seen it escalate or don't realize how often it does. It's the same with unsolicited DMs or a guy asking for my number while I'm in the store or any other "it's not really harassment" moment. I'm just going about my day, living my life, often with my kids, and suddenly some guy will demand my attention. And half of the time I'll say I'm not interested and he'll give me a little smile and say no problem and be on his way and that's fine, I'm not going to say those guys don't exist - those guys are the majority. But then there's the other half. Of that remaining 50%, some will push a little. And of those guys again, about half will back off when I say "seriously, I'm not interested" and that's also fine, can't blame a guy for trying, right? But then there's the other half....
And sure, it might only be 5% of the guys who approach me who end up "really" harassing me, i.e. who get aggressive, assault me, start following me when I leave the store, threaten my kids, etc. and yeah I'd say 5% seems pretty accurate for my personal experience as a very average looking woman in her mid 30s, but let me put that 5% into perspective for you - a large bag of skittles has about 190 sweets in it. If I offered you a sweet, but with the caveat that 10 of those sweets will hurt you in a way that you cannot control or predict, and one of those will put you in the hospital or even kill you... would you eat it? And before you get all sassy saying nothing comes between you and skittles, remember that for this analogy to be accurate, you're not being OFFERED a skittle, you're having a skittle pushed into your mouth while you're at the store with your kids, and you just have to hope it's not a bad one this time.

Maybe when THEY do it (most guys who participate in this behavior) they genuinely mean it in a completely harmless way and never intend to escalate. When you're on the receiving end of the behavior, you have 0 way to tell which type of guy they are because they behave the same as the ones who escalate.
In regards to the skittle analogy, it's a good one for these types of things tbh. Not really related, but I am someone who LOVES skittles, but I've also have people attempt to shove skittles unwanted into my mouth (the situation wasn't a big deal and it was kids getting a little too rowdy), and even as a skittle lover, having something forced on me was incredibly unpleasant.
Which on second thought, does make it an even better analogy for such attention. Some people may even enjoy attention from time to time, but that doesn't mean they enjoy ALL types of attention ALL the time, and some of that attention will escalate and be harmful.

@@lrose5522 exactly this. I picked skittles 'cause I love skittles and hey I have kids, I've had skittles pushed into my mouth many a time by a well meaning grubby little sugar gremlin, that doesn't mean I want random strangers to start pushing candy in my face on the street. Same with attention from guys - sure, it's nice, it's flattering, it's a compliment, but that doesn't change the fact that said compliment might come with a stalker as the price tag. The fact that I like the compliment doesn't mean want it if there's the uncertainty of what it'll cost me just like how I like skittles but I'm not going to accept a half-melted one from someone's pocket.

It is horrifying to be a young woman in America right now... with the over turning of roe v wade (a tragedy) and people like the tate brothers spreading their disgusting messages, specifically about SA and harassment of women, America is about to slip into dark times where women’s lives are ruined, taken away from them, forever changed. As a young woman who is very small in size, I rarely leave my home alone for fear that something awful will happen, even when I have lived in relatively safe areas. I fear all men because I do not know what they are capable of or what their intentions are. Until a man proves that they are trustworthy and not a threat, I feel unsafe. That is not to say that there are not good men, but women have a lot to lose to a man who may never face consequences for their actions. SA can ruin someone’s life, man or woman, and it’s heartbreaking to see someone who bought such a huge platform try to discredit those people...

I've had a random realization. ive been wondering why sexism is one of the only major plights of the world that people are still currently ok with openly and proudly in large numbers, and I'm thinking its because its the only one where the receivers of sexism are just as large in count as the givers, as in everyone that ISNT a man, like half the population, is a receiver, and therefore it doesn't feel like much of an attack by these sexist men because although we're dubbed a minority, we are technically as minority as men are, as in we're not. And so no one feels like the class of "women" is a victimized group where more people outside of it are enough in abundance to fight for it. Ik minority doesn't entirely mean in terms of population, but that's how it all starts with, its starts with population count imo. Regardless of these feelings, day to day life will feel like we are a small minority due to sexism on the streets, at work, social situations, etc that we quietly suffer through, but in broad general conversation where men like Andrew speak about all women, we don't seem like a one. We are too big of a minority for people to give enough of a fuck about basically and now I've never felt more depressed in my life.

if you've got a big story in your back pocket as to how you can't be at fault for rape you're not okay. You need to reroute your thinking because it's not okay.
You can't go around plotting how you can get out of assault accusations like you plan to spend your pocket money. It's fucked up.
People are special, we are indivuals and every one of us experiences human emotions such as pain and fear in similar ways, whilst still processing it differently. You can't trivialise the human experience. But he has.
I'm actually glad that we have Andrew as a voice for people like that. He's loud and abrasive and is exposing a deeper issue that needs to be discussed. Life is all about exchanging of ideas and I'm glad we have you, Fraser. I respect the hustle of exposing gross people on the daily. It helps shift outrage and disgust into conversation and growth.
p.s. idk who needs to hear this today but listen to ur red flags more often and u will thank yourself later 🙏
