    We found the Interrail did a decent job and most of the cities we stayed in offered us free local travel passes. But yes we did have to pay extra for the scenic boat tour in Luzern and also pay for the transport musuem in Luzern anyway.

    I am travelling with my spouse end August. I am going to buy the Swiss half fare card and the Bernese Oberland Pass.

    Maybe you should also mention the half-prize pass. (1/2-tax)
    I gives up to 50% discount on all trips. It might be good solution
    when you have some train trips but not enough for Swiss Travel Pass.

    This is generally a good video. But you should have stressed that where a mountain line (even a cable car or funicular) leads to a village, the line counts as part of the NORMAL transport system and the Swiss Travel Pass is valid. So you can get to villages like Wengen, Murren and Braunwald free with the STP. Lines which go to uninhabited locations are usually only 50% discount. However about twenty years ago the lines up Rigi decided to become free to STP holders. This has brought enormous business to the summit restaurants, and recently other purely mountain lines in the Lucerne area (Stanserhorn, Klewenalp, Stoos) have declared themselves free to STP holders. I hope other parts of Switzerland will get the message.

      That is a very fine detail. But sure. I will remember for next time

      @@SwitzerLanding The point that the Swiss Travel Pass will take you free to high lying villages is for the Swiss themselves a POINT OF PRINCIPLE. Swiss residents cannot buy a STP but roundly 430,000 of them buy the 'General Abonnement' annual season ticket for Swiss Public Transport. The current price second class is 3,990 Franks. The validity of the STP is modelled on the validity of the (much more long-standing) GA. Fairness requires that the GA can be used to all villages, whatever their mode of public transport, and the same therefore apples to the STP.

      @@Fan652wsure. But for tourists. Which the stp is for it is not such a big deal. Jungfraujoch. Important. Pilatus. Important. Murren. Maybe. But the cost is minimal even if not included. And i am working with and making content for tourists. So although your point is true and worth knowing it is not that important in the grand scheme of things

    Hi, I'm planning to get 3 day Swiss Travl pass, I was confused will I need to get an additional ticket (mainly for trains and buses), and will I need to validate the ticket prior to getting in the Transport.

    • @SwitzerLanding
      @SwitzerLanding  7 місяців тому

      The Swiss travel pass is valid for the days you pay for, including local transport. Only if you get the Flex version, then you have to activate it for specific days.

    Are funiculars and cable cars included?

    • @SwitzerLanding
      @SwitzerLanding  9 місяців тому +1

      You get a big discount on most of the big ones (50% usually) and a few are free around Lucerne (Stoos, Rigi & Stanserhorn) but not included as such, no

    • @Fan652w
      @Fan652w 7 місяців тому

      If a funicular or cable car leads to an inhabited village they are included. So you can use the STP to eg Murren or Braunwald, or any of the several villages in Valais canton which are accessible only by cable car.

    I used inter city trains during my travels in Switzerland in the first half of March 2024 and the heating. was never turned on.
    That the Swiss government (it is the owner of the trains) thinks it is OK for the temperaure inside train carriages to be as low as 12.8 degrees celsius (I have an indoor real time temperature app on my phone) possibly sheds light on their general approach to ethics and profits.

    • @SwitzerLanding
      @SwitzerLanding  10 місяців тому

      The SBB is actually not government owned, but they do received money from them. There was a big thing about reducing heating in the last years due to a Swiss energy crisis, which may explain the heating. But in my limited experience living here for 22 years, the trains are normally way overheated and too hot in winter.

      Thanks for the reply.
      I took 4 train rides and all were non heated.
      More precisely one ride was heated for the first 20 minutes or so (it was really hot in the carriage) but then was turned off which was bizarre (it was an evening train to Geneva that arrived at 19:47).

      @@BudmilBudapest Certainly not normal for SBB. Could be the energy issue I mentioned. Otherwise makes no sense

  • @BudmilBudapest
    @BudmilBudapest 10 місяців тому +2

    Theoretically WiFi is provided on intercity trains in Switzerland.
    I and my friends discovered it is not true.
    The SBB WiFi never sends the code to foreign mobile numbers and that in my humble opinion is unacceptable in one of the top 5 wealthiest countries on earth in the year 2024.

      This is true as there was basically no WiFi on the Swiss trains. In Germany, Austria and Chechia there was although intermittent at times.😮 @@SwitzerLanding
