I wanted the Mini series ever since they came out. But then I was determined to settle for the Messenger because I already have a Zumo XT installed on my motorcycle and just wanted the satellite capabilities. In the end I chose the 66i though because they were on sale over Christmas for about the same price as the Messenger I think, and I figured I'd have something to play with all the more 😋

You'll have a lot to play with as the 66i and the 67i are pretty tech heavy.

What concerns do you have about which one to buy?
1. All-in-one device?
2. Size?
3. Complexity of the 67i?
4. Price?
5. Syncing the Mini 2 to your smartphone?
6. Screen size?

All in one? Are 2-way comms possible w/a pair of 5watt Rockie Talkie? Thanks!! I have a family of four. Tryin to be ready for the worst case scenario.

In order to be prepared for most everything, from regional outages to full blown grid-down situations, I would consider the following:
1. Two Garmin GPSMAP 67i's or Mini 2's when you can communicate through satellites and having two of these would allow your family to split up if needed and still communicate.
2. I agree with having something like the Rockie Talkie and I would want to have four of them so each person could have their own.
3. Grid-down situation: I would have several handheld ham radios and at least a portable ham radio station to let you communicate farther out. A base station with a powerful antenna would be best if you want to communicate worldwide. You would also need your own power source.

Unless there's its EMP SHTF, Lora and Meshtastic or Beartooth (works out of the box with encryption). No ham radio license needed either.
