    For most riders I recommend building on a soft tail or full suspension frame if your thinking 5000watts.. most people have never gone 50mph on a bicycle. Trust me, over 35mph and your a pinecone away from crashing. If u go 70mph very often your life expectancy goes down a bunch! He is 100% accurate on the battery cells. If you build your own match up your cells

      @E-bikeguy I tell people you build them to go 70 so you can go 0-35 really fast.. we all go 70 a couple times to prove it goes 70.. but you really know your on a bicycle after 35. And I'm a firm believer that to be able to safely merge and ride around traffic you need to be able to go 35. 20mph isn't enough to manage around traffic.

    It's great that you can turn your passion to profit. You can do some battery builds and bike conversions and grow into something big .
    I've done a few low budget builds to sell and use those funds to build a bigger, faster bike, sell that and keep going to build the best bike I'd ultimately want to keep.

    I bought an NCM Moscow ebike in June 2021, I am just shy of 7200km (4500miles) I am in Canada and even riding in the winter, 388km(242miles) in January. I ride the thing everywhere, and just as you said you get out and enjoy the scenery. I ride it every where and don't take my truck unless I need to carry something.
    The bike is a 500watt/48V/13AH, but I pedal and get 100km range. Closer to 70km in the cold. 5000watt would be fun, but I already have a motorcycle. I may build something else for fun though. - Cheers

    Man! I enjoy a well put together range test! My riding style is range heavy, especially in the Summer. I'll often ride my regular bike 30-70 miles on a Saturday. Now that I'm getting into ebikes, I want to enjoy the same rides, but the range anxiety is very real. No one in their right mind wants to have to pedal a heavy ebike miles, with no assist, just to get home. Ooh! Wahoo makes GPS bike computers that are popular for cyclists. You can use a bike computer to help with a more accurate range test, ride stats and GPS ride tracking. Looking forward to more range test videos.

    It seems the battery problem was a chain of events that the bms bypass prevented the bms from stopping the destruction of some cells that probably not only went low voltage but also reverse polarity.
    My guess is a few cells came disconnected from a brick which meant the remaining cells reached LVP early and the bms closed the discharge port but since it was bypassed (i think still bypassed at that time) it allowed you to pull the voltage down to 0 or less. But you have no way to know it was destroying the pack because even is one brick drops from 3v to 0v when the pack voltage was 75v, your battery indicator will still show 72v or 50%.
    Of course with the smart bms you would be able to see this early and then ease the bike back home without allowing a cell to drop below 2.5v if the bms is bypassed.
    I still have a basic bms on my $300 bms and thinking of doing bypass reversal surgeries because i really didn’t need to dp the bypass after all because if was not the problem I was having.
    Another danger of that style pack with cells only separated by the thin wrapper is if the glue breaks and the cells are allot to rub together and rub through the wrapper to an adjacent brick, thats at least 3v differential and will act like you ran a 10AWG wire directly across the battery and it drained or the CID tripped.
    It will be interesting to see how the double-wide pack is constructed. As two 72v40AH in parallel (with 2 bms) or one pack with 20s24p or so. That’s going to be at least 6” wide and might need the crankset widened or something.
    I have a $500 mountain bike i might convert but first i need to replace the seat with a better seat because the original competition seat if not suited for my fat rear. Lol

    • @imho7250
      @imho7250 Рік тому +1

      @@E-bikeguy, 114mm? I was guessing 140mm minimum since the 18650 cells are 65mm long and you will need two wide so 130mm + allowance for separating and tabbing. 2170 cells would need more room. Unless they are using some other cells format. But sometimes they drastically exaggerate the the AH.

    Absolutely excellent video you answer a lot of very important questions , Also for the sake of all of us that ride ebike , You might consider ghost paddling even though we all know that it's useless but it's psychologically means a lot to the public going down the highway at 70 miles an hour passing slower cars obviously it's dangerous but at least the people making laws and the police who have to enforce them can't say it isn't a bicycle. I myself like you are Petrified riding in traffic if I can't keep up with them So I'm looking for Something like you are making , speed when needed and range . I have a Wal-Mart special the 26" 500 watt with the 13ah 36v battery , I added saddle bags with 2, extra 36v 25ah batteries and found out quick at 20 mph on the public road the controller gets to hot and cuts power back and now I need a better controller but I still need shocks in the front a better seat and maybe higher voltage motor so wondering if its worth investing more in this bike but as it is I have ridden almost 1,700 miles on the San Antonio trails system so getting my moneys worth . By the way I'm Handicap so can't walk much and depend on the bike for my leg Therapy even if most my peddling is ghost peddling. By the way peddling real slow is fun watching the looks on peoples face as I go by at 12 to 15mph peddling so slow 😂
    By the way I added a small 6 led strobe on back of my bike to get more attention from drivers behind me .

    I found out on my first combined trail and road ride that a back tire flat is a disaster on a fat tire bike especially on my 26" but when it happened thank goodness it went flat in my living room and not on the road. I then ordered slime for my tubes and a puncher proof liner so far 1600 miles later no flats . This morning I'm installing the tracking equipment as I know it will be stolen at some time so hoping I will be able to find it when that happens

    I have been doing some research on battery building. If your going to build batteries with out a bms it is recommend to test the cells of that pack so you dont end up smokeing a battery pack. Normally a bms would check and make sure all cells are balanced charged keeping track of temperature ect. Since your batteries don't have a bms, you have to fill the role of the bms by keeping tabs on the cells. I see the benefits of having a bms & not having one. The main benefit of not having a bms is cost and less to do during the build process.

    • @E-bikeguy
      @E-bikeguy  9 місяців тому

      I agree but I think a bms is there for protection like using the incorrect charger, drain the cells too far, over current, besides I done a lot of research and I deal with rc as well I want to do a video on this but I know I'm going to get a lot of negative feed back so I rather not lol

    Wow EBL!! Ride safe but happy you got up to ya specs! 72v, and even 60v a bit too heavy for my type of tire widths of just 2.25 as the 52v is just within that compact extra weight. However I am going to need a 52v 20ah 40 to 50 amp as the 52v Im using for both turbo Booster at only 25 amps ( for 1500 to 1800 watt use) but the 2000 watt runs faster than 1500 on same battery with the 2000 watt wanting that faster acceleration. Still got both Gear bikes with the Turbo Boosters of finding the right parts , speed,csoecs, ect working fine , if not better of me keeping within ranges of what I can use over a bit too much overkill for type of bike and parts. Your tires is at 28inches 3 inches wide? My next build will be of a wider back tire ( at least) so I can load more weight on rear racks( pulling a cargo of weight do uses more torque due to physics of pulling vs placing center of weight on top of tire.

Tried another charger to no luck of not turning red of signaling recharging. Fyi Sales of replacing battery but he wanted me to do a meter test to find how much voltage giving off to determine if he send new one. I was like , what!?! Like I have those things on me ( most of us do but lazy to buy and test) I ended up just upgrading the battery of buying higher amps off Amazon as the stock battery is meant to upgrade being just 48v 8ah so I bought the 48v 12ah giving me close to use as a 700watt gear motor of 26 mph along with the 2000watt turbo Booster.

      @@E-bikeguy yeah, was only giving me 25 to 32 miles of range with the 8ah. It's sold for users to upgrade battery easily as it's just a swap of plug and play. I use the other turbo Booster battery in the 58v 20ah so my range is always 80plus a day. With the replacement 12ah should get me a out 100 mile range with the 58v. I commute with a 30to 50lbs of extra cargo weight daily of a 15 mile range average using the 48v gear motor thru the residential areas and turn on the Boosters on straightaway BLVDS or them streets with no speed limiting of 35mph or less. A very practical use of the combination of motors and batteries. I've yet got into my 3rd DIY DUAL of using a FAT TIRE for rear use of cargo. I've learned pulling cargo puts more use of electricity over placing weight on top of tire which the air pressure compensating the overall torque output when pulling cargo from behind. Experimented these factors with both methods of having weight above tire is me best route (,pulling cargo best at 3000watt and higher to use regularly).

    I noticed your battery percentage was not really true SOC so when i dug into the UKC1 it says if you want real SOC you need BMS support with Tripartite communication protocol. Thats when the trail went dead. Lol. No information could be found after that about which BMS can send it the data or how its connected. Lol.
    Good news is the smart bms will have an app and show real SOC if you program it with your actual AH. This you can get from your first range test because it will show the actual AH you got which will be something less than the 80AH advertised.
    In my ANT BMS the battery theoretically theoretically has 36AH advertised, 33ah tested (0.2c discharge) battery but after testing i found i can get 28 AH out of it reliably and have a small buffer at 0%. Part of this is because the bricks are not perfectly matched so at the bottom end the brick voltages start to drift apart and one always hits 2.5v before the others.
    Its probably possible to get some BMS talking to the UKC1 but i don’t know how. Lol

      @E-bikeguy cool . 😎 I like the 18650 store too. Building a foot scooter with 21700 LG M50lt cells . 264 cells in one front bank ,and maybe 264 samsumg 50s in the rear? It's 110amp hrs. With 24,000 watts capable? 225 planned range at 27.5mph. That's 24s 22p? But still debating on final cells for the powerful pack? Stay safe out there !
