To prove that you don't need a million dollars to make incredible memories on the water, Steve buys a $20,000 "starter boat" - a 1994 Monterey 265 SEL - which is representative of what someone new to boating might get.
He then takes it on an epic 750-nautical mile journey from Toronto to Montreal to New York City. This is the first stretch....

Thanks for watching. We'll see you on the water!
Love the travel, love the meteorologist humor. I live in Montreal (Lasalle) in an apartment. No room for a nice boat.
So I live my adventures through people like you. Thank you for the video.
Thanks for watching! You've got a lovely town there with lots of water you can visit from land too. In the meantime, we'll keep the adventures coming your way :)
lol..I didn't get your comment, were you planning to keep the boat in your apartment?
@@CodeDecode100 Haha, no. Just that Montreal's waters (such as the Lachine Canal) don't require a boat ownership to explore and enjoy.
As someone who works in the automotive industry, one tip I suggest is not to touch the glass with your bare fingers. Use gloves next time, oil transfer from your fingers onto the glass can cause hot spots and blow them out! Nice video!
I just did this exact trip last in a 28 foot boat that’s from 2004. We had one engine issue along the way, but other than that there was no problems. Exited to watch part 2!
Great minds think alike! What an adventure!
Brockville!💙 My home👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I have my cottage like 5 minute walk from Picton Habour -- so awesome to see it pop up!
What a beauty spot!
And here i thought my little kayak And the French river was something...Love the videos !
Nah fam, kayaking on french river is OG level shit
If you're floating you're boating! Thanks for watching :)
great trip!
Ahoy Matey! This was fun to watch. 👌
Thanks!! 👊
Thanks for information
Thanks for watching!
Hehe, picture starting with a little johnboat, like a sundolphin 12. building a small foam and fiberglass "cuddy cabin" onto the front of it. 6-7' long. adding on solar panels, a little solar generator. windows with small fans... a rear mini bimini top, and taking that out on boating trips... up and down the smaller rivers and lakes.
Would be nice if the OPP officer made mention of disposing of expired flares! It's almost impossible to get rid of them once they've expired!
Good point. We discussed that off-camera but because flare disposal options and dates (i.e. CanBoat - formerly Canadian Power & Sail Squadrons - has their flare disposal days but the change dates/locations year-to-year)
Thanks for watching!
Just did my small vessel operator proficiency from Transport Canada and the instructor who was x-opp dive team told us to keep the expired flare for extras.
our local Volunteer FD takes them and uses them for burn barrel training, check with your locals
@@lbcmotors9316 Great idea! Thanks :)
And stop pointing the flares at each other during descriptions! 2:35
Part 2 is now online: ua-cam.com/video/2MoZQO1Y0yM/v-deo.html
I keep my expired flares on board. If my good flares run out I can try them as a backup.
Interesting to see how you can go from one major city to another by boat. I’m guessing your boat has all the amenities of a small apartment like a bed, kitchen and bathroom with a shower…..
Exactly. This wasn't outfitted with the latest and greatest but it's somewhere between camping and hotel stays and you have all your stuff with you. Not to mention, most cities have sought-after waterfronts where hotels are at a premium but the slip fees are a fraction of the cost.
Thanks for watching!
Great video! Would you mind sharing your fuel cost for the trip?
Kingston a great stop, with Portsmouth Olympic harbor with a ton of facilities located mid town, confederation basin down town, Kingston Marina on the other side of the causeway up the great cat river, and then on the other ide of the great cat river, cfb kingston has its own marina.
small city of about 100k with no less then 4 marina's + private docks.
Absolutely agree! We're hoping to do a whole episode on Kingston in our new Water Ways: Ontario show.
@@WaterWaysTV Then cover... CORK. head down to Portsmouth Olympic to the CORK office... Candian Olympic Regada Kingston and international sail. held almost all summer long with 100's of sailboats coming in from around the world for races... off shore, laser, opti, cats, and more classes.
AT LEAST YOU DONT HAVE FIGHT WITH THE DISGUSTING 401 TRAFFICS ALL THE WAY TO MONTREAL LOL
How much did it cost for gas ?
heading the way your going, are you green to port or starboard in channels?
Flow is outbound from Lake Ontario to the Atlantic via the St. Lawrence River, so green is generally to starboard.
i'd love to do this, but i'd prefer to do it in a slightly larger cruiser. if you could only modify an c-dorry 22 to have a head and darkwter tank, cuz the portapoty it has isn't ontario legal.
Good call. Few people know that about those legalities!
@@WaterWaysTV yep, and in most cases its ignored, until your spotted dumping a portapoty overboard... then your hit with a fine higher then most boats.
fines start at what, 1000 and go to 100k depending on how much was dumped.
Botom end gear oil ! !
look into getting a better gopro. this video felt very very low res for a 2024 video. almost hard to watch. other than that great video
Were you the guy on PBTV?
The very same!! By that I mean the same Steve Bull, not Gridley or Blaicher or Spencer or Rankine.... ;)
vallet field
Expired flairs are not useless, they still work...
same with expired condoms
Not necessarily, they expire for a reason
@@drumswest5035 yes, and that reason is to sell you some more... There's a sucker born every minute...
BUDDY YOU STILL DONT HAVE A SPOTE ON A REGULAR MORNING CANADIAN TV CHANNLE
We air the season once on Global TV and then it goes on Sportsman Channel Canada (runs twice) and now they're on UA-cam. 39-out-of-52 weeks ain't bad! ;) Thanks for watching!
wow, change one bulb and your boat is ready to go anywhere. Obviously I hope you had someone go over the engine, oils, outdrive, bilge, blower cuz obviously you didn't and not have a clue either
Nah, just the one lightbulb and blindly out into the wild blue yonder!
(Actual answer, of course we did but the detailed survey and mechanical inspections weren't particularly thrilling TV content)
Thanks for watching!
thats an old boat... thought you won't even be able to pass centre island
