Formatting any Flashdrive to Fat32 | For flash drives OVER 32GB

- In this video I will be showing you how to format a flashdrive to FAT32 when windows only gives you the option to format to exFat or NTFS. If your flashdrive is less than 32GB then you can easily format it to FAT32 using the file explore from the the file explorer. Reasons you many need to use FAT32: 1. Compatibility: Some devices, such as older game consoles, cameras, printers, copiers, and some media players, only support the FAT32 file system. If you want to use your flash drive with one of these devices, you will need to format it to FAT32.
2.Cross-platform compatibility: FAT32 is a file system that can be read and written to by both Windows and macOS without any additional software. If you need to transfer files between a Windows PC and a Mac, formatting the flash drive to FAT32 can be a convenient way to ensure compatibility.
3.Large file support: FAT32 supports files up to 4GB in size, which is smaller than other file systems like NTFS. However, if you need to use the flash drive to transfer files that are smaller than 4GB, formatting it to FAT32 can be a good choice.
4.Bootable drive: Some operating systems require the flash drive to be formatted to FAT32 in order to create a bootable drive. If you need to create a bootable drive for an operating system, formatting the flash drive to FAT32 may be necessary.
It's important to note that formatting a flash drive will erase all data on it, so make sure to backup any important files before formatting.

Grant, this video you made is excellent. I just bought a 500GB pen flash drive that wouldn't work on my TV. Other videos all said just convert it to FAT32 which of course I couldn't. But I did with that program you showed us. EXCELLENT result. USB now recognised. You're a top man, Grant. Great explanation and great result. Cheers!! SUBSCRIBED!!
So glad the video helped!
Thanks. I used this app to re-format a 128GB USB drive to FAT32 for use with my FireTVStick. I am SO glad you had the same error pop up and how to get it to work!

Well done ,Sir!
Cracking up trying to use a 128GB Sandisk Cruzer Blade in a Mini R56.Many reformat attempts failed using windows.
Kept saying not detected until following your steps.
My thanks :^)
So glad it helped!
It's working, Grant! I'm now able to use this SanDisk 128 GB pen drive on my local cable STB's USB drive, for the purpose of recording videos to my PVR. That STB detects only FAT32 drives.
Awesome

How can i format my usb to normal
You are the best. I did some google searches about why my usb stopped working in my Mazda 3. It was just crazy stuff. I got a new computer and then was adding more music to my flash drive. I said why not just delete everything and start over. I thought well, why not really start fresh and just reformat the USB flash drive. It's 64 GB and the new computer had just two options so I picked the EXfat or you know. Then I downloaded my music and fixed some errors. Song 1 not in the folder. An Itunes version of the song and an MP3. Thought I had it all looking good. Went to the car and not dice.
Like I said then did some google searches. Why does my USB flash drive no longer work in my 2021 Mazda 3 (note on 02/23/24 it's 5 days out of warranty). Then I did a youtube search and found you. I was like okay. The only thing that worried me was the "unsecure site". But I went with it. Then I didn't have my flash drive plugged in when I hit the start. I only saw the C: and D: drives and was like no, no don't do that. Plugged in my USB and then clicked on that. Reformatted it. Put my music back on it went to the garage and put in the flash drive. It worked, listened to parts of 3 songs and said good enough.
Thank you so very much!
So glad my video helped! Thanks for sharing your story
thank you! this helped me format my hard drive so that I could replace my PS4 hard drive.

Great tutorial video explaining things clearly and succinctly. Ty!
Glad you found it! Thanks for watching!
@@GrantButler yeah but the fact that at about 6:31 you showed a 'letter' from RidgeCROP had me questioning your validity for a bit. lol.
A man has gotta pay attention in this world.
@@tomasotreasaigh111
It says 'RidgeCrop' because that is the actual name (see right before when Grant does the google search)
Grant is just mispronouncing it 'RidgeCORP' (which would be an easy mistake, since it sounds a hell of a lot more logical than 'CROP' ... for a tech company)!!
Sorry I just came to this video in December. 👍
bro thank you so much for this video no homo but I love you so much I've been looking for hours and it worked

Thanks! My new Mazda will only read music files from a USB drive if it is formatted to FAT32.
Its crazy how many thing still only use FAT32
Not sure about when I click start on Ridge Corp. it says that this is not a secure file. It may have been tampered with.
Yeah, Ridge corp isn't authenticated with Microsoft. so it will have security errors. You could always take it to a PC repair shop to pay them to do it for you.
dont suppose you could recommend some usb drives to me that work w this program that have 1-2TB in them? if possible ones from amazon
SanDisk is the only reputable brand I trust that has one that size

I have a 16tb flash drive with exfat format so I have m2ts & MP4 neither will play on windows media player so any suggestions
It was a scam. It's likely only 32gb.
Check out my video where I got scammed too

Got a bit of a long question I have kodak 128 gb flash drive. Exfat. I can put music files on it from my tablet but try it on my LG smart TV it won't work i formatted to fat32 on TV but won't work on tablet tried nttp format but won't work either any ideas would be good. Pointless having usb in TV if nothing works I've tried the usb and it works on other things.
hey man, i formatted my Sandisk Ultra USB3.0 to FAT32 via the Rufus software and it says it was completed, but when i go to the format settings of the USB in file explorer it still says it is on exFAT
@cobyparker784 well, I think this video uses different software
Thanks i able to format my 3 64gb HIKSEMI flash drive thanks alot
Glad it helped!
Hi my car is Toyota 2010 but it can not read my Sandisk 64GB it show NO SUPPORT on screen I followed your way but it still can not work but Thank you.
It sounds more like your file formats might be unsupported
the best !
👍
Thank for the info but i dont have a computer to format it. Do you know how to do it on a phone?
I do not, I'm sorry
im so frustrated why the fd didn't come already formatted to fat332 being it is 256gb.
thats weird. I'm sorry
hey, that was coo.
Thanks!
First thing I liked your video, the problem I am having is after using the program to for my 128 GB U drive to Fat32 and download the music I want to play in my car. What happens is after ejecting the USB drive from my windows 11 Hp laptop, my car system will not read the drive and when I plug it back into my laptop, it will not read the drive but tray to reformat the drive back to the windows exfat format. Any Help?
What format is in in when you plug it back into your computer after it didn't work with your car?
Properties come up blank
Dude i have hdd disktop 300GB suppoted only exFAT &NFTS "only " so I ASK if i can format it to FAT32 🙏
Should be able to.
does anyone know if by doing this the usb becomes able to update bios ?
Have you found out yet? I think you should be able to.
Does this work on external hard drives( 1TB) it wont show on my smart tv
I never thought of that. You'll have to try it and let me know
i've formattted my hp flash driver from exFat to FAT32, under properties, it showed FAT 32 but when i clicked format, the file system still NTFS and exFat, and didnt show FAT 32, why?
Because of the size of the drive.
what should i do then? i've copied 3 videos from pc to flash drive but only 1 video can play when i plug into my handphone, the rest show unsupported format
oh, that not your flashdrive's format. that's the video format. You'll have to convert the video to a format your phone can read. maybe look at the one that is working and see if you can convert it to that format.
grazie mille..from italy
What?
I downloaded shows to a flash drive and when I plug it into my blue ray player it won't recognize anything. I reformatted it from NTS (something) to FAT32 with no change. What am I doing wrong.
Have you checked the compatible formats of the files that your Blu-ray player works with?
No I didn't. how would I do that? @@GrantButler
@@jeanne4856 I'd start with Google
Can I format TB portable SSD in Fat32?
I don't think so, but you can try
Did Not Work on my OPESEL 64GB USB Drive. Error Notification: "(failed to open device) the process cannot access file because it is being used in another process". are you able to provide guidance...and as fyi provide guidance to proper Allocation Unit Size (which I'm unclear). THX
It almost sounds like you're 64 GB Drive might not actually be 64 GB. Try formatting it to NTFS and then try bringing it back to FAT32
@@GrantButler THX ..that did the trick. I first attempted to format the usb drive on my drum module (as advised) and rec'd msg it was unable to read the device. Roland (e drums) recommended reformat to FAT32 tho wasn't an option. Search on how lead me to you. Thanks again Grant.
@@GrantButler thank you for providing this clarification. I was getting the same error with a Samsung Bar+ 128GB and that addressed the problem. Appreciate it!
Thank you
No problem
Is there any equivalent software for mac?
I'm not sure. I think I was told once that Mac can only format to FAT32
thank you
Glad it helped
I have Windows 11 and a SAMDATA USB flashdrive. I went through the Format process as you described, but I got the following message: Windows was unable to complete the format. Do you know the problem and how to resolve it?
What size is it?
@@GrantButler It's 32GB. I'm currently in the process using the CMD Diskpart and eventually using the Format command. Let me know if I'm going in the right direction.
@grumpykat2909 for only 32gb you should be able to format it as FAT32 from the regular file explorer.
Try the section of my video at 11:45 but before you format it select FAT32 as the "file system" that should work
@@GrantButler I tried earlier using file explorer and the only options were NTFS/FAT and it still failed. Anyway, I just completed using DISKPART which I did an Attribute Disk Clear ReadOnly followed by the CLEAN command. Next, I created a partition with command, Create Partition Primary. Then I used the following command: FORMAT FS=FAT32 Quick. It completed successfully. 👍
@@grumpykat2909 I'm glad you figured it out!
Mine would only reformat if I unchecked quick format.
Interesting. I haven't seen that before
Did this through Rufus then had to format it on my onn box wouldn't migrate my data to drive so it doesn't work
I'm sorry it didn't work for you.
@@GrantButler buying another one that one I bought off Amazon going to get a quality make flash drive
@@dtechvinnie good choice, I've gotten a few scam drives off Amazon
Video is ok, but I'm not all very familiar on some aspects. At 7:59 it was mentioned that...
"All data will be lost", (when formatting the drive to FAT32).
Question...Is that data on the drive the same as everything you have on the computer?
When "All the data will be lost", does that mean you will lose everything you saved on the computer or laptop, everything on your desktop, everything on your hard drive will be gone if you format your "Drive" to FAT32?
It only deletes data on the flash drive that you are formatting. Your laptop/PC should be fine as long as you select the correct drive.
Sounds good appreciate that
Hello thank for this. pls formatting to fat32 wi it work for radio
Radio?
It still read it as MS-DOS :/ on my mac
I wonder if your Mac can natively format it to FAT32
@@GrantButler no it’s only shows exfat
I just dont understand why you need fat32 for MB bios updates.
It's because it's the original and most basic language that computers started with. Mac's ONLY use FAT32
I don't use the 32GB flash drive. Mine is 16GB so won't I be able to do it
If you go to 2:14 I actually show you how to do it without using the extra software. For flash drives under 32 GB (LIKE YOURS) software is built into any Windows computer
@@GrantButler I don't use a computer so how will I do it on my smart phone
@princegorman2979 not sure, probably have to go to a library.
What about a new USB, I have been uploading pictures straight from my external to the USB and no problems.
Should I be formatting new USB’s if I will upload pictures?
If it's working, I wouldn't format it if you don't have a reason to.
@@GrantButler aha I see, so only format when there is a problem when trying to upload?
@royaltykidstv yeah kinda. There are some reasons but they're very rare.
@@GrantButler Thank you
Not working bro, there is no option for my drive
Does your computer see your drive at all?
@@GrantButler I have SanDisk dual drive which I ordered recently, it was working properly but I format it and afterwards it is not showing in my tv(old gen) now when I used ur method in ridgecorp, there is no option for the drive I want to convert fat32,
I was considering buying a new Fat32 drive but this worked great on my 64gb Sandisk. It isn't actually 64gb its 57gb. I hate the way they lie about the capacity. That's 7gb !
Yeah, it's kinda funny how they do that
@@GrantButler it's kind of funny how they get away with that. I can understand 1gb maybe, but 7gb?
I felt like I was robbed. Why didn't they just state 57gb on the drive? Anyway, thanks for the info. It was only 15 quid but it saved me having to buy a new one. Not sure I'll but that brand again though.
Mine doesn’t even have the option for fat 32, which is why I thought we were watching this video. So you obviously have the option for that so I’m confused.
There may have been updates to the website or the program since I made this video
I got scammed on one of those so-called 1TB usb drives years ago off of ebay!
Same. I took down the video with mine.
@@GrantButlerI wound up throwing mine away because any program, file, movie or whatever i'd dl on the drive it would disappear and I'd lose it all. And of course ebay wouldn't take responsibility for letting this China-based scammer sell those things and wouldn't refund or do anything. The risks of ebay. You live and learn...
Malwarebytes shows Ridgecrop Fat32 to be infected with a Trojan. Not sure if it is a false positive.
If you're not sure, it doesn't make a difference
