This is my birth land , my heart beat, my soul. When I laugh it tinkles in the air around me, my tears fall on English soil. This is England's song, our voices would raise to the sky above as our feet stand on the land we love.God save the Queen can be used at appropriate services, events.
ralph mctell is a wonderful artist and his song is really an option for a wonderful anthem for your wonderful country!!! i am a german lover of ENGLAND and i wil support this great song!!!
Trevennor, thank you so much for this wonderful song and your glorious photos! Brought tears to my eyes. Just heard it on Radio 2 on St George's Day and found your version. Perfect!
Today, April 23rd, St. George's Day, this really is the most appropriate song for a still great country that has been let down by it's politicians, but never by it's people - Thank you for posting.
@desertstar987 Ah yes, you can take the Englishman out of England, but never the reverse eh 8-) Glad you liked the video, Ralph must take the Lion's share of the credit though for the great song and lyrics. ALan T
@@smeejit can I point out it was us that ended slavery, made half of the world into civilised nations, and brought industrialisation, and carried the team in two world wars.
Oh yes! Without a doubt,my favorite for National Anthem as proposed in the House today. If this could be released as a single to coincide with the EURO 2016 football tournament, it would go to number 1 and perhaps inspire the nation to get behind England and win us a cup after fifty years of hurt that never stopped us dreaming....Please release it Ralph. And if your reading Englebert please don't re release PLEASE RELEASE ME just yet. Allow it to escape.
Well, the song contains this verse, but strange thing, Ralph never performs it. Here it is: What is it about you that took men into war? Rows and rows of crosses, who remembers why what for? The corners of these foreign fields, The dust in them concealed. Out of sight but not out of mind, Don't you know that England feels?
@iglagol Well, the version with this video was released as a single record, so I would suppose that there is a longer album version which perhaps includes that missing verse? Alan T
@TUNEMAKER1701 I'm glad, it's been a favourite of mine since it was released. Celebratory rather than jingoistic. Just what we need for a new national anthem. Alan T
believe it or not your humble servant when neithermet the great Ralph McTell. He's a personal friend of my sister and her hubby Tony. Met him in a dinner party in Wimbledon Park about 20 years ago when neither of us were that famous. Actually Ralph was quite famous then throo STREETS OF LONDON. I think ENGLAND just as inspirational as STREETS OF LONDON and Ralph should be given a knighthood if ENGLANF win the EURO cup 2016 on the back of his anthem.
ENGELAND, OH ENGELAND. Absolutely beautiful song which embodies everything good about this great country of ours. Shame on jokers who suggested Jerusalem as anthem. I don't think Jerusalem is even in England is it?
An English Anthem song should be one where English patriots can sing at the top of their lungs with absolute pride, this is just a sweet tune, nice but don't cut it.
@desertstar987 you can still like England and yet want your own country to be a Republic at the same time! - it doesn't have to be a case of either/or!
Yes yes yes...I AGREE TOTALLY. The God Save The Queen Dirge is awful, and anyway I don't wanna save her or any of 'em. This would be an appropriate anthem no matter what your politics. BRAVO!!!!!
England like so much of western Europe exists in the mind. The reality is never as good.So typical of course that the clips from this video capture the rich, historic & nicer side of the country - clearly central Middlesborough, food banks and fights in the local A&E ward on a friday night are no-where to be seen....
I've been saying for a while this should be our anthem instead of that God Save The Queen nonsense. We need a song that is actually about our country. Ours must be the only anthem in the world that isn't about the country it represents.
As George Bernard Shaw said: "The national anthem belongs to the eighteenth century. In it you find us ordering God about to do our political dirty work."

She still has her problems Ralph but your songs always make me proud to be an Englishman. Cheers for the upload Trevennor.

For me this IS England's National Anthem never found it yet on a Ralph McTell album!
A marvellous song for the best country in the world.
+Paul Rogan Well, it USED to be... but then came The Great Invasion. Know what I mean?
@@paulevans466 No.

Brilliant stuff, classic Ralph McTell.
VERY LOVELY. VERY NICE. THANK YOU. I ENJOYED IT IMMENSELY!
Great song Symbolic words by Ralph
This might be the best performance by Ralph. Anyway the others I've heard before leave lots to want. Thank you for showing it here!

Yes it's about time we English stood up for ourselves.
This has my vote for a new English anthem.
The English managed to acquire a name for standing on other peoples - slavery, colonialism, white supremacy, all those jolly things.
@@smeejit sounds like russians

Always loved McTell. Beautiful song and video about my second home.

Two words - WELL DONE!!!
It is a quality song so it no surprise it no surprise it is difficult a good good quality recording.

We also have the DNA developers, Internet, Stephen Hawking and Higgs-Bosun....We are not quite finished contributing just yet
This a song of unity unlike the divisive durge of an anthem we now have.
This is on the 'At the End of a perfect day' Vinyl but wasn't ever released on cd and is not - sadly - downloadable :(

Finally got the song! - Ralph McTell - Water of Dreams (2003)

ENGELAND, OH ENGELAND. Absolutely beautiful song which embodies everything good about this great country of ours. Shame on jokers who suggested Jerusalem as anthem. I don't think Jerusalem is even in England is it?
It’s about building Jerusalem in England’s green and pleasant land.

Bollocks to you. God save the queen is the best anthem in the world. God bless the royal family
The children's chorus is a bit cheesy, but other than that it is very close to what I'd want as an anthem.
Me too !.
Give us our country back

Not allowed to play nationalist songs like this nowadays. Brilliant Ralph...we all still feel it but are silenced by the racist woke brigade.

sounds scratchy and distorted to me
A great country failed by awful politicians. Makes me so angry.
