As a McDonald's employee, I can say that some of the things talked about in this video aren't true... at least not in my store. We do clean our machines at regular intervals as prescribed by corporate procedures. The chopped onions we use are dehydrated to extend their shelf life. We soak them in water when we are ready to use them. When it comes to regular burger meat, we do pull them off the grill when they're not fully cooked. The reason for that is to keep them fresh while they're in the holding cabinet. What people don't know is that the holding cabinet is hot enough to finish the cooking while they sit in the tray. That ensures the meat will stay fresh for the time it sits (15 minutes) in the cabinet. As for our ketchup dispenser, it's taken to the sink and washed out every night after close. As for our pies, they're tossed out when their hold time is up. Pies have a 4 hour hold time after they're taken out of the oven. When it comes to coffee, it is true the most of it is sold during the day time. At night, hot coffee sales are at a minimum because we sell more iced coffee than hot coffee after breakfast. That tends to change as the weather gets colder. Should you want a fresh coffee at night, just ask and we'll brew a fresh pot of coffee for you. Just be aware that it's going to be a couple of minutes while it brews.

Hi the problem is the people never specify the country, state or whether they live in, so how heavily McDonald are regulated changes in different places, so I have no idea if any of these apply to restaurants in my country or not.

OMG...where to begin, I works at McDonald's for years..for starters, the smoothie machine is ALWAYS cleaned after every drink so people don't get smoothie in their coffee drink, 2nd, they use red, white and dehydrated onions, 3rd, we ALWAYS took apart the lobby drink station every night, 4th you're more likely to get a raw quarter patty then the small patties especially when they did the 1/3lb burgers, 5th, the apple pies don't sit on a shelf all day, they are baked and placed in a warming oven for 4 hours at a time and finally yes, there are some employees that will reset the timers on food BUT most will toss the food because of the many managers watching to see if everything is done correctly...most stores aren't as dirty as people think

I remember attempting to clean most of everything on my night shift but between the manager doing other stuff and customers coming through one at a time or back to back, its kinda difficult to have the dirty products and cleaning solutions out in the open or "out of service" so the customer doesn't get upset that im touching that stuff and their food, even after washing my hands (manager would filling something out or counting or something, not really looking to clean and me wanting the job to get done)

You do realize that it’s not up to the employee’s decision to clean out the machines right? Even if the employees does know how to, they would have to go talk to one of the managers on floor AND the restaurant manager if present at the back. The reason why is because once it’s rush hour, it’s hard for employee to leave (our soda machine is outside for both employees and customers) and get drinks for both Uber and Skipthedishes. This is just my location and what I’ve seen in other McDonald’s when I went to pick up some items.

I work at a McDonald’s right now and I can tell you almost everything in that video is a lie. The only correct thing that they stated in the video was that our onions are dehydrated. But if you wanted non dehydrated onions that you can just ask for slivered. Other than that I have cleaned almost every machine in the one year I have been working there and the machines that I don’t know how to clean I have watched my co-workers clean the machines. The only foods that is frozen is the food that we fry. Are meat patties are put in the fridge along with other products that need to be refrigerated. The food that we freeze is our fries, nuggets, fish filets, and our pies. And every fast food or restaurant has done that same with their food. If you ever want to make a video telling people the truth. Then I want you to work at a fast food restaurant and tell people how hard it is to be constantly yelled at because we are human and can mess up sometimes. But in the whole time I have been working I have never had a customer get bad food and get refused that correct order so we can make it right. The only time we will refuse service is if you are yelling and abusing us employees because of one tiny mistake that can be fixed.

The regular meat is frozen, its the quarter pounder patties that are fresh and kept in the fridge. Go in the freezer and youll see regular meat where you keep the fish, pork and hash browns assuming its the same as the store i worked at.

The dehydrated onions aren't even bad to be honest, it's just a logistics thing really because it takes up half as much space, and they get prepared in the morning and sit for 2 hours to rehydrate (in the chiller). Every time the McRib reappears, I have 15-20 of them while they're available. Never are they cold, tough or anything less than perfect. It is textured pork, and it is the same product it has always been, since it was introduced in 1981. I met the man who invented the McRib and toured his factory where they were made and can tell you first-hand, the quality of the product is outstanding.

“Even the staff won’t eat” we eat everything
    Alright let’s start w milkshakes
Our store has a pressure washer right next to the smoothie/milkshake machine after every smoothie we pressure wash it. Every. Time.
Onions: dehydrated onions are so much better and if you say otherwise you’re crazy. I get extra dehyd onions on my burgers errytime.
Our burger patties are fine, they’re more pressed Bc we have a double sided flat grill that cooks the burger on both sides. If you wanted a real all American burger, would you really be at mcdonalds?
Our ice is fresh every day. We get it delivered. It sits in a cooler in the back and we bring up buckets when we need to refill drink/smoothie drink.
We clean our drank machines every week Bc the health inspector actually checks that shit an if you’re at a McDonald’s that doesn’t their health inspector is at fault.
Our ketchup thing is kinda gross tho, we clean it at the end of the night but the top part is a bitch to clean. Same w mustard and Mayo.
Our cookies be fresh, our pies be frozen, our cinnamon buns be frozen, but who tf cares, they’re cooked in an oven and it’s basically fresh when it comes out. Just ask us to make it fresh. Not that hard.
    Don’t .get .the. McRib.
We have a 7 minute wait time on ALL our food. If it’s over 7 minutes since we made it, we toss it. everything.
Our coffee is fine but we truly don’t have decaf. We can give you a shit ton of creamer, but we don’t have decaf.
That video of the guy making and sliding a burger is accurate.
Again. 7 minute wait. We toss.
We do make fresh fries for a no salt order. No questions asked. But yeah just ask us to make it fresh. If you can wait 20 minutes at a fancy restaurant you can wait in our parking lot for 8 minutes.
I will answer any questions if anyone asks/cares

(I work at McDonalds and i have for about a year now so ik just about everything that goes on)
    1. Yes, we do cook the meat about 80% through, thats only to save time, but the cabinet we keep them in is basically a big oven that will complete the cooking process(proven by the fact i burn my fingers on a daily basis while pulling a tray out), and we usually keep about 3 trays in a cabinet at a time and only take from the one which the meat is cooked completely (the cabinet has timers that keep track of how long the meats been there and thrown out usually after an hour) and in the case of a lunch rush and we run out of prepared meat, we will usually just press the patties down for a moment or two (theyre not very thick so they cook pretty fast)
    2. The pies all have timed stickers that correspond with when they were baked\boxed and are thrown out usually after about 3-4 hours(i know this personally bc i usually take the "expired" pies as a snack when i go on break or clock out)
    3. The condoment dispensers are cleaned every night after closing (i would know, i hate doing it)

  • @sparkychan123

The soda fountain thing happens on ANY soda dispenser that is frequently used. I had to clean the ones at my previous job every single night. Our small restuarant only had like 100-200 max customers. The ketchup thing was a problem, but the biggest bag they had was always gone in 2 days. Our burgers didnt come with ketchup though.... we had one on every table that would get refilled at put back in the fridge between rushes and days. Slow times, we'd grab one out with the food.
I doubt the ketchup sat for THAT long before theyd have to change the bag... but the dispenser not getting cleaned is gross, for sure.

Very true. I can’t have more than a little caffeine for serious medical reasons. But I like the taste of coffee. I can only make it at home, since I can’t be sure what I’m getting out somewhere. I used to work at Starbucks and my coworkers would make fun of decaf orders and just hand out regular, even to elderly and pregnant people. I already had my problem, but they made fun of me when I said something. Looking back, I should have made fun of them for only liking coffee for the caffeine instead of the flavor.

As a McDonald's grill manager myself, I can go ahead and tell you that the entry about the raw meat is false. We have food regulations that we have to follow very strictly to be able to serve you those delicious burgers, and personally I take great pride in that. The 10:1, or the smaller beef patties, cook under the grill for roughly 80 seconds, and by the time they're done they have to temp at least at 180°F or else we can't serve them. Yes, we will admit that sometimes they look a bit pinkish close to the middle, but as long as it temps correctly then you don't have to worry about any transferred diseases such as E. Coli etc. If your mcdonald's is selling you raw meat, I would highly suggest requesting to talk to the general manager on shift because that would mean that the grills themselves are in need of maintenance, and the workers in grill need to pay more attention and be more cautious about the meat they're putting on those burgers.

I worked at McDonald's years ago. The buckets for the ice basically just sat on the floor next to the ice machine, never cleaned. I was a dishwasher, and apparently I was the only one who actually washed the dishes correctly, because when the soap water got gross, I would drain, squirt the sink out and refill and get yelled at for it because it was too time consuming. I scrubbed ever item totally clean, right down to taking blender pieces apart and cleaning them. Would also get shit because I was "too slow" One day one of the veterans who have been there for a while stepped in to "show me how it should be done" . All he did was take the dishes out of the gross, greasy and at that point soapless water, then squirt everything down without washing. I still did it my way. It's not right to do that. I thought about what if my family or friends or kids, anyone ate from that stuff. Soda machines were rarely cleaned. My job was to also clean dining room. I was yelled at for disinfecting everything including the seats. (Too time consuming) . All I can say was nobody messed with the food or did anything bad at my store. On breaks, the managers and crew would smoke weed out back on breaks and be high as the sky while working. Also got yelled at for wiping down door handles. "It wasn't necessary" 😒

I was a cook in the US Army for several years, and when I got out, I struggled to find work anywhere, but I got hired on the spot by the store manager at a MD, who had never hired anyone "on the spot" in his 50+ years as a MD manager. He put me in the position of kitchen manager, and put me to work that very same day to inspect the place to find out what problems the store had. Apparently, he had been brought in from another location as the last store manager was fired for allowing the restaurant and staff to become complacent in filth, and the Health Department giving it a D grade and 2 weeks until its next inspection, to which it would be closed if things didnt improve. Within 3 hours, I had written up more violations than even the California Health Inspector did. I spoke with the store manager, and we had a conference with the owner and all employees the next day, a Saturday which I instructed we should remain closed for the whole weekend and following week to clean, reorganize and receive and install new equipment, along with me introducing new policies. I told all the staff, "I was a captain in the Army, and I expect the same level of respect and obedience from you as i expected from every soldier under my command. I know you are not soldiers, so I will not treat you like soldiers, unless your inability or refusal to conform to my standards and obey my instructions forces me to treat you like soldiers. Neglect these responsibilities, on each offense, you will be written up, and I will take you downstairs to the break room and smoke you like a recruit late to formation. That means rigorous physical exercise: Pushups, situps, side-straddle hop, etc. You will also be reassigned to R & U detail for a week. That's Repairs and Upkeep duty. I'm an equal opportunity disciplinarian. I dont care about your gender, race, religion, age, height or weight or anything else. Failure to keep this restaurant in prime condition will mean two things, both of which I am not in control of at this moment, but the Health Department is: This restaurant will be closed down, and every last one of you will lose your jobs. I will implement procedures and tactics that made 2nd Brigade Dining Facility the most desirable and most awarded eating establishment, at not only Schofield Barracks, but out of every single military dining facility in the state of Hawaii. If you do your job right, we will get along. If you're a slacker and think being a sham-master is gonna get you through the day, I will make certain that PT is the easiest part of your day, and you will never get off R & U detail. If you dont like doing the kind of work that makes a restaurant truly great, and being part of the team that makes it great, you can quit. You can get up from your seat right now, hand in your nametags, and give up like the sore loser that you are. If you stay, you will work harder than you ever have before, but you'll be able to go home at the end of a long day with that $80 you just earned, and say to your families, 'I made an effing difference in the world today! I may not have shot up any terrorists, but I sure as hell made and served some damn good hamburgers that were good enough to feed to the President of these United effing States of America!' You will cook and serve to every customer that enters herein, as if he were the President. There is no difference between him and any regular Joe-Blow or Jane-Swallows that comes in from off the street. Courteous service, a clean restaurant and unforgettably excellent food are the new marks of this restaurant. The name outside may be 'McDonald's', but the names inside are the names of each highly motivated and hardworking member of this team. Being 'Fast Food' doesnt mean 'Sloppy, Shitty Garbage'. You will give your best, because I know you can." We hired a night crew to come in and deep clean every piece of equipment from the floors to the refrigerators to the grill, deep fat friers, the ketchup dispensers, inside and out of the soda machines and tubings, coffee machines, milkshake machines, and everything else. I required all employees to wear hair nets, men wore beard nets even if they didnt have beards, gloves at all times, required hand washing every 15 minutes, made-to-order meat and sandwiches, got new and proper equipment, new procedures on how to assemble the sandwiches, and instructed every employee, new and old how to properly stock, cook, assemble, take orders and clean the place. We also increased the amount of time on the clamshells so the meat would be cooked better on both the 1/10th lb and 1/4 lb meats. By the 2nd week when we had the Health Inspector arrived and tested us, we passed with a high A with 98% above average. The lost 2 points had something to do with bookkeeping, which I was not responsible for. It became very popular there and we were constantly flooded with customers all day. I took the morning shifts so I could do breakfast and stocking as I was stronger, thus faster than everyone else on the morning shift as they were all females. Gina (the mega bitch) managed the front. She would try to undermine me all the time, but I would fearlessly challenge her back. I always won. Then she got in a fist fight with a customer, a woman who was easily 6 ft tall and +300 lbs. Gina barely crossed 5' 3" and 110 lbs. I still got this behemoth off of her and suplexed her on the floor and kept her subdued until the cops arrived. A trained soldier (especially a martial artist and shoot-wrestler like myself) can take down any foe. Gina never thanked me for saving her worthless life. I would have fired her if not for the fact that "our rank was equal" and she was close friends of the store manager. To this day, I will not eat at any McDonalds. I dont trust them to have the high quality standards that I implemented at mine.

Where exactly did you work at McD's? Because nothing you mentioned seems to make any sense.
Firstly, policies and procedures are decided on by McDonald's USA, not a kitchen manager. The Owner/Operator is trained to do everything the store manager does, and more. He/She must know their stores inside and out - and they're the one that supplies the store with all the equipment. Not a kitchen manager, not even the store manager.
Secondly, If their store is failing, the regional office (McD Corporate) would be the first to know about it and that store would be shut down. They have a procedure called a 'Brand Standard Visitation' - A field consultant is sent out every 6 to 12 months, to make sure all procedures are adhered to, the restaurant is clean and sanitary (This means, spotless), and the customers are happy. Those that fail are given a second opportunity to pass, and those that fail again are subject to immediate remediation.
I guess, what I'm trying to say is, a McDonald's store is not your garden variety restaurant where a new hire can just take over. There are corporate policies to adhere to.
What's more, your story is full of off-topic embellishments, which leads me to believe that the situation wasn't nearly as dramatic as you claim.

With the exclusion of McDonald’s specialty (like the McRib) the information presented can be the same as any fast food place.
I worked at Krystals (the southern White Castle) and the cleaning process is the same. So as the onions, replacing of food, and so on.
One example is that it the oil (made to cook all fried food items) is changed every 2-3 days. If you black specks on your fries, that’s a clear indicator of oooooolllllllddddd grease. Even darker than golden brown shouldn’t be consumed since it already at it 2 day mark by then. At the restaurant that I worked at, we would even place patties in the grease to quickly heat them up if a grill was occupied or down or whatever.
Bottom line and moral of the story: don’t eat fast food

I work at Mcdonald's and that bit about not washing the machines or cleaning things in general is not true at all. We wash the machines very often, and wash all the dispensers and dishes daily. Although, I do work at a franchise so maybe we have different standards. We also never give customers something they didn't ask for. If they ask for decaf coffee and we don't have it made, we make a new pot. There are also cheat sheets above where we make the sandwiches, so we will never make the sandwich wrong.
