Here at the height of Beatlemania, this 2-year-old classic "old song" probably sounded ancient to these kids. Don & Juan's "What's Your Name" peaked at #7 back in the Spring of 1962.
While still early in it's Hollywood run, the show is starting to pick up some “regulars“ such as Frank Loverde, Danny McClane, and Terry Shires, with many more to come. I'm not sure if Famous Hooks had shown up yet, but if not he'd be on soon.
Kathy Young and the Innocents performed "A Thousand Stars".
Thank you for watching....whatever your name is, Shooby-doo-bop-bah-dah!
Brought to you by @jthyme and @YouCanDanceToIt!
Pure unadulterated innocence of our young adult youth. The likes we will never ever see again. A reflection of American culture long lost.
@Eddie L,
I very much appreciated your EXACT emotional sense that I engaged with totally.
There is absolutely no explanation to describe that time, those times
YES .....of many beautiful times to be alive. [ "....if only I could go back for one full day"... ] What a treasure.
You had summarized everything when you had written: "Pure unadulterated INNOCENCE of ~ Young Youth" ~.
We will never have `` that Utopian`` Time of Our Lives.
2022. Thank you.
Than you for expressing THAT memory.
You notice how they are really chill about the cameras. No way today 😕
American youth of 1964 started to lose it in '64 when the Beatles arrived in America, dude!
@@dariowiter3078 - there is no question the innocence of youth then has been totally lost today.
Pure class…
I want to go back there!
Me too!
YouCanDanceToIt. Saturday May 30Th. 1964. Well I did not get to see this one. I was still going through Boot Camp down at Parris Island. But the good news is. Tuesday June 16Th My Platoon graduated and I have not been back to Parris Island since then. But May 30Th. 1965. Well I was somewhere else. But it was not Parris Island. Oh well. Things happen. Thank you for this great video. God Bless.
Right before my years fighting in Nam. We occasionally listened to WLS Chicago by atmospheric bounce. More than memories. A lost America never to return.
Lord how mercy. This is memories right here. Still sound good after all these years.
The boys have pretty much stopped wearing suit jackets and adopted sweaters
Great clip for today. We are just a few months away from "New AB" '65. Thanks for today's and hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving holiday States side.
Great clip and great song!!
I could have pick this great song, I was still a Jr in High school in 1964.. heading for the teen clubs to dance in 1964..What a Great slow dance...
Me too.
Love the harmony and fluidity that co existed between these two. A very nice golden oldie. Also, rest in peace to the wonderful Christine McVie (Fleetwood Mac) who passed away just a few days ago.
Oh by the way, a toast to Dick Clark, whose birthday was this past Wednesday. He would have been 93 this year.
Thank you for another ab drop
This was my generation! Our youth today have truly missed out on what we had at that time.
Memories of Fortnightly dance in the basement of the Lutheran church
Very nice and another song I do not remember but I look forward to listening too many more times. I will admit following the verse> "What's your name" my mind kept going to > "Who's your daddy, Is he rich like me" Thanks YCDTI! and jthyme.
Excellent!! Keep them coming!!!
I want to go back there! Thanks dear Aaron
Aaron and Gary great to see an upload from YCDTI! posted to kick off the first weekend of December. Terrific a/v quality and the accompanying always-on-point descriptor fits like a warm-winter’s glove.
Thanks for this Bandstand treat. Happy holidays to everyone!
Hey Don!!! Hope you've been good, man! This is a cool clip. I was just talking about the absence of slow dancing with friends the other day. I think I might be from the very last generation that did slow dance at parties. Oh well, evolution... lol.
@@thruthealcove I think you’re right Kevin. Looking back less than a generation from this clip, the Philadelphia kids would have slayed the L.A. dancers on the floor in style and technique.
@@dancerdon9175 yeah y'all would have gotten slaughtered if some of the kids from the Philly version of bandstand had came to dance on the LA version and when Don Cornelius brought Soul Train to LA from Chicago he noticed that the kids in L.A danced differently than the kids in Chicago
That was a very nice clip to start our final month out with and the biggest holiday of the year coming . This also was a nice clear video.Thank you Aaron and Gary i enjoyed both your time..
A local "oldies" group used to do this regularly during their shows. Wish they would bring it back. Thanks for the post and the "shout-out", Aron! Hope everybody had a great Thanksgiving and hopefully Aron can bring you some Christmas presents, soon! CROSS YOUR FINGERS, TOES, EYES...........ANYTHING!!!
Fingers crossed 🤞!
@@dancerdon9175 ditto Don!!!!! ❤️
Andy Williams's twin nephews took this song, with a faster beat, to #92 in 1974. Yes, the picture quality is great that you can see the blemish on their faces lol. And did anyone spot the guy in the striped jacket apparently fast dancing? Finally, it's been a while since I posted here so some updates on the veteran music stars we've lost. RIP Jerry Lee Lewis, Joanna and Lucy Simon, Irene Cara and Christine McVie.
Been there did that
Hey hey Aaron! So nice to see a clip of slow dancing. I was just talking about the fact that the kids of today don't even slow dance anymore & may not even know how to! I might be from the very last generation that slow danced at parties & school dances.
Great classic song. I grew up with this & Joe Bataan's version. You can never go wrong with a love song with pure, honest & simple lyrics like this song. These are the songs that will outlive us!
Another great one, Aaron & hope all is well, buddy!!!
Hmmm, that’s a good question. Do kids slow dance anymore? There are lots of good (imo) recent “slow” songs/ballads by Taylor Swift, Adele, John Legend, Sam Smith, Bruno Mars, Ed Sheeran, Harry Styles and others, but do they even play these at dances like prom?
Anyways, I’m doing great Kevin. Trying to get rid of the Thanksgiving weight before the new Christmas weight, lol. I hope you had a good Thanksgiving and are doing well.
Kids still slow dance a little bit at proms and school dances. At my prom last year people were slow dancing but they only play one slow song all night. I love it though, it’s nice sharing the moment with my girlfriend at a dance. Kids don’t slow dance like they did on Philly bandstand anymore though. It’s more like this Hollywood slow dancing just hanging onto each other swaying back and forth. I make my girlfriend slow dance the Philly way though!
Thanks again Aaron. Great Clip. Here's hoping that y'all had a Great Thanksgiving 🦃 and wishing Everyone a HAPPY HOLIDAY SEASON 🤠😎⛄❤️🎉🎊🥂‼️
👍
Annah the sweetheart of TOIT and thank you and right back at you👍👍👍 you always have something nice to say!!!
Just great to see some new Bandstand clips finally, and with nice video quality too. Keep em coming Aaron. I've never actually heard of Don and Juan. I hope you have something before the New Year.
Hi Andrew. This episode was from a great quality film reel that’s floating around. Gary (@jthyme) did an excellent job of converting it to video. I’m really lucky to find to have access to these.
Definitely more to come from me before 2023 and I hope you do too on @Times Past Television. 👍
@@YCDTI I'm kind of waiting for some content to arrive. I hope it gets here before the New Year.
"Don and Juan" real names were Roland Trone and Claude Johnson.
"What's Your Name?" entered the Top 40 on February 24, 1962, and stayed in the Top 40 for nine weeks, peaking at #7.
We watch every Saturdays, then the Program grew to every afternoon!
Back in the 70's we had a dj on the radio who used to play these type of songs on saturday nite during the" parkolgy "portion of his show in Phila.,Penna.
High school days so long ago I'm 74
if their was a time to be young, it was then in 1964.. and how many of these young men were drafted and were shipped to fight that nasty war in vietnam. and how many did not come back?
I came back. Served 20 years. And after that was a contractor
in Iraq at age 60,
That was my first thought.
While great, this song sounded about 4 years out of date when released in 1962
I was age 11!
thanks
the days of hairspray and hair tonic!!
And skirts had reached above the knee.
😊
Ycdti show the whole damn show.just teasing us!
Do teenagers even slow dance anymore? Babyboomers had the best music.
If we could bring that era to today, the world would be a better place.
Was this in California?
