  • Nile, from Malibu, California performing "Fire In A Hurricane" (song by Mike Nile) at My Place in Santa Monica, CA in June, 1986. The rock band Nile had begun performing their own style of music called "Rock and Swing", that involved taking digital sampling keyboards and keying them with electric synth guitars that would then trigger the sampled sounds of horns, winds, and other instruments sampled at Nileland Studios, enabling a rock band playing guitars and keyboards to sound like horn sections, or single horned instruments. The band performed Rock & Swing throughout California eventually taking the music to England and Europe resulting in a record deal with RCA in Paris. Nile was forced to decide to stay in Malibu, or move to Europe and play Rock & Swing. With families, jobs, and the recording studio Nileland in Malibu, different band members decided to go different ways, the band splintered and eventually broke up. Band members: Mike Nile, Jethro Foxx, Stevie Adams, James "Bubba" Manley, and Steve "Duffy" Fitzpatrick.

Love it! I never saw the 'evolved' NILE. Surprised? A little. However, the genre may have changed a bit (a bit?), but the musicianship is just as superlative as it any previous incarnation. Thanks for posting these wonderful videos, Mike! (P.S. Are you still in touch with Jett? Is he well? Working/playing? I have a lasting affection for the old loony toon and I'd sincerely love to know what's up with Mr. Foxx)
