In a word... wow. | Roseisle 12 REVIEW

- I've got a somewhat new release today. This is a single malt from the Roseisle distillery in Speyside today. This is their first release. It was part of the Diageo Special Releases in 2023, and it's definitely a fun one. I'll taste it and give you my thoughts. Cheers!

So can we just call you a Diageo Fanboy now? 😂
😂Hey I admit I’m a Diageo fan girl as they carry some of my fave single malt scotch expressions!!🎉
😏

£135 as of today in the UK. Hahaha, thanks, but no thanks.
Giving the benefit of the doubt about E150 and chill-filtering to Diageo? Of course it's colored and chill-filtered. Just look at the color of the whole series. If Diageo ever joins the XXI century, it'll probably act like it pioneered NCF and natural cask-imparted color :)
The first release is no longer available. The second release is £125. Not counting delivery. I’ll pass. Sounds interesting though.
Passing on it at $168.99
Still £120 in the UK. They can jump in the sea.
Tried it at a festival last year & thought it was really good & bought a bottle, even though I thought it was a bit expensive ($180CAD). Then I saw that the SAQ has both stocked a lot of it, but now they also have it on sale ($144CAD) and it's been discounted for quite a while now. So of course I bought a second bottle.
For those who don't know, Roseisle has been producing whisky for a while now but have been 100% used for Diageo's blends until this one. Apparently it's a huge distillery & putting out a whole lot of spirit.
Wad up Boss G., ! RI-12 is being re-released for 2024 part of Special, so I wait for the 2023-sale (-30% off/on offer).
Hey Geoff, fellow Diageo Hypocrite here, although my dollars are only spent on the Lagavulin and Talisker special editions, but I may take your advice and look at the Oban also.
I'm so glad you reviewed the Roseisle 12 as I was curious about it and it's now added to by "Buy" List. I can get it for $145.99AUD online, which is not expensive by comparison to the other special releases. Slainte.
I've never bought a Diageo special release due to the price. This one is about $174 NZD here, equivalent to approx. $110 USD, which is more than what I am willing to spend. Some of the SRs from as far back as 2020 are still available here. Cheers!
Earlier this year I tried the Roseisle 12 in a flight along with the Oban and Talisker SR's. I really enjoyed it even though it got buried by the peatiness of the Oban and Talisker. Here in Montreal it was released at $180 CAD, but maybe a month or so ago it dropped to $136 along with the Talisker SR 2023. At that price, in our market, it's a buy for me.
Keep the great content coming Geoff!
I was glad they released a 200ml version: worse price per ml, but less overall outlay. I do like it, but wouldn't want 700ml.
Strong start for a new distillery. I guess Diageo being a massive multinational corporation actually helped the product in this case. Upcoming SR24 is almost identical in terms of specs which sounds good, but gotta wait quite a while until those exorbitant prices settle down a bit.
Sorry to burst your bubble but this year’s Special Releases are already available and 2024 Roseisle is pretty much the same as 2023’s
Lovely design. I wish I could try it, but it's out of my budget
Not a fan of Diageo SR series, and this one is too pricey for a 12 yrs bottle. May try it in a bar, thanks for the review.
If it's not peaty I'm all for it!!! 😊
P.s fingery 😅
I've seen prior special releases discounted deeply and still wasn't tempted. Not at those prices.
How much were they discounted? At my local stores none have been discounted yet. I’m hoping for a 30% discount because last years and this years have not been selling. They’re just too expensive
@@TheReal_DeanD I've seen 40% off on the various special releases, like game of thrones, etc. the usual overpriced stuff. I don't pay attention enough to tell which specific ones. I wouldn't mind trying an unusual lag, mortlach, or others at the right price, but those were still not worth the money in my estimation. By contrast I've picked up their classic malts 3-pack 200ml bottles at liquidation price and it was a bargain. Also picked up distillery edition talisker of various years at roughly the price of the 10. Even scored Talisker 18 at discount, but years ago. My approach is to ask what better malts could I get instead of an over hyped bottle? Usually you can get multiples.
I think it's worth sharing - went to Amazon Germany to check it out , saw it for 35 euro/bottle. Almost pulled the trigger as I was watching the video ....but then I realized it's for a 200ml bottle lol😂
So nope. Maybe in a bar sometime hehe
Anyways my sweet spot for whisky is between 43-50% ABV. Though there are exceptions of course.
Still, great review and exciting stuff Geoff!
Thank you and have a great week
Cheers 🥃🥃🎩
I say f*** Diageo but also yeah I will still buy Diageo products so... yeah I'm confused too 😂
Hey Geoff, Mr. Diageo. I agree with most of what you said in this review. Good calls. Interesting how the best whisky in Diageo’s SR2023 line-up is also the cheapest. Yet not inexpensive ;-)
The Roseisle 12 and Clynelish 10 were my favourite drams from the Diageo Special Releases 2023. Please review the Clynelish one!
It’s pretty good. I found it at Costco for $89.97. That’s decent for a 12 yr cask strength Diageo product. It’s a pass at its original asking price though. Now I wish I’d picked up a backup at Costco when I had the chance. Sigh.
I’ve heard great things about this from - hold your criticism - other critics. I bought one for one of my boys as a “congrats on your first full-time job as an adult” present, and he and some friends finished it off over the last few months with rave reviews. I’ve got one in my cabinet, not yet opened (maybe next summer if it’s a summer-time dram), and if they go on sale in Ontario this Fall ($178 cdn), I’ll buy a back up or two. Tx for the review
You make me want it. You really make me think it is something I would love.. But, here, at the £120 mark, I ought to be strong and resist. Certainly I must somehow try it first..
😂😂 Fingerish!! Oh well. I missed out on the one case that got into my area. I saw it online a couple of months ago but it was $155 before tax. I just couldn’t gamble on it and it is all gone. Maybe next year’s will be good and more available
Hi megobaro )) Nice whisky , i try 21 september in whisky festival Tbilisi. Cheers !
i tasted this together with the clynelish 10 and both are nothing special,..... the price is ridiculous high for this quality... Ok, i live in holland and have acces to lots of independent bottelers which are always are unchillfiltered and natural colour
Found this on clearance at an LCBO in Ontario for $127 cad or around $94 US. Very solid dram.
Wow - love this dram! Really a strong first release from this distillery. Will definitely be picking up the next edition that's coming soon!
Typhoon Krathon coming. Stay safe Geoff!!
Ok, you sold me this bottle! I'm sure it's good, can't wait on getting my hands on it (normally in 2 days, i just ordered it)! Cheers
Praise the death star
Yes! That's the spirit!
Nice. I’ve tried this one, it was great! Recommended if the price doesn’t scare you away.
Thanks for this! Quick question, do you keep track of all your ratings and if so, would it be too much to ask to share it with us?
Sounds delicious.
Love the review because I feel exactly the same way. I was blown away by this one. Despite the high price I bought a second bottle. It is a special release and I have no idea if they will come out with another Roseisle offering. I so so hope they do.
I just did a tasting of the full 2023 lineup. This came in second for me. Clynelish 10 was the winner. Both are overpriced and should be half what they are charging. That would change my opinion completely. And Roseisle is a monster distillery and I’m sure there will be lots more where that came from.
The Clynelish is one I need to try. The price, though. 😬
@@Gwhisky Yeah, Narcissism takes many forms. Overpriced bottles of whisky with kites on the tin is one of them.
91 ? 12 year ?
Do I spot a bottle of Cointreau? Next for review as a malternative?
This is the only one from last year's line I bought and no regrets loved it.
Vics Vapor Rub is addictive!
Not available in India as of Now
Thanks for the review Jeff I bought this bottle the only one in the series, but I heard good things about it already. Just haven’t opened it yet.
I paid around 140 Canadian
*sigh* I saw that a month ago but passed it up. I decided I would pick it up yesterday, and it is now gone from my local shop.
Ah tragic. 😢
Is it worth £135?
Great review Geoff. Your notes sound like what I remember. Lovely distillate driven malt with some pleasant edges. I'd love to get more from Roseisle with details about the variables used. It could be very educational for us. Considering the purpose of Roseisle I wouldn't be surprised if these Special Releases are all we see though. We can hope!
I’ve had my Special Release Tasting at Whiskyplaza in Hamburg, Germany. That was a stunning eve.
Bought my bottle for 108€ in Germany in March 2024.
For me in Release 2023 there were only Oban and Talisker better ones.
My top daily summer dram of last year was the Compass box, this year the Glencadam, so I have no choise but to try this one.. however price in Poland isn't encouraging
Which is better compared to glen grant 15?
I'm worried because it's expensive in Korea
Ralfy did a glen grant 15 review. Check that out
@@jackthepickledhound ok thx a lot mate have a nice day :D
Hmm never heard of it. Its currently 25% off in a Calgary store.....seems pretty pricey for a 12 year old cask strength, but the flavour profile you have described I havent tried anywhere else...
wtf is happening in the background with that compass box bottle? seems very glitchy haha
The way you talk about green fruit and being crispy makes me think of Glenlivet 12. It made me laugh when you called it a good summer sipper because that kinda sealed the comparison for me.
$177.75 in Ontario and yes they have it in stock🥃
In Quebec it came in at $180... but for a few weeks now it's been on sale for $144! Plenty in stock too. Took advantage to get a backup bottle.
Found one at $127 Vaughn a month or so back, They had a few but the discount was all over facebook so they did not last. With over 700 bottles still on the shelf, they will end up on clearance sooner than later if not just to make room for the Christmas crap,
Can get it for £120 in the UK still to pricey for me !
Again , 179$ here in canada , outrageous
