I love McCarthy's so much! The OG American single malt. They still operate under a grandfathered contract with Port Ellen for their malt, so it is bona fide Islay peated barley but mashed and distilled in Oregon and aged in Garryana oak. They've expanded the corre range to a 100 proof 6yo (which is phenomenal) and both a PX and an Oloroso finished cask strength 6yo, which are also really good. (I slightly prefer the Oloroso, but they're quite close to one another and equal in quality.)
I just picked up that Rittenhouse recently. Never seen it in Quebec before, so I immediately grabbed it. Haven’t opened it yet; I need to bottle something down before opening anything else.
I always enjoy your WIWO videos, Vin. What a huge in month for you. I'm glad you enjoyed and killed the McCarthy's. It is more of a novelty but I wanted you to try a peated expression made here in the Pacific Northwest. I talked to my local distillery and although he can source some great malted barley from right here in Washington State, there is nobody making a decent peated malt. This was a light month for me. I did buy a great bottle, but it was a birthday gift for a friend. I'm saving my whisky allowance for my trip to Scotland in November. I opened a few bottles but haven't killed any this month either. I have a lot open and I need to get some of those finished and out of the cabinet. Cheers!
What an impressive “in” list Vin. Congrats. Thanks again for the T-shirt. Whisky In: Isle of Raasay, Old Particular Jura 12, Redwood Empire Grizzly Beast Bourbon, Laphroaig Cairdeas 2024 (backup) Whisky Out: glenallachie 12, Henry McKenna Bourbon Cheers.
Hi Vin, great video as always. A very active September for me; IN: Ardnamurchan the midgie, Thompson Bros SRV5, bruichladdich classic laddie sherry cask (travel exclusive), Craigallagie Armagnac, Jura 10 -gifted by a friend-. Can’t complain, all great, even the Jura for which I had low expectations, behaved good enough. OUT: old Uggy bottle down. Cheer my friend
Good to see you trying the Rittenhouse Rye! not the most complicated drink in the world, but for me it has a very nice taste, cofee and dark choc notes.....hopefully you like as it is a cheap taster and good mixer!......my no1 rye so far is the Balcones Texas Rye, funky but lovely taste. cheers
Hi Vin. Wasn’t going to buy nothing in September but I saw Speyburn 15 on offer for €37 ( around £31 ) , couldn’t say no. Again nothing finished albeit a few bottles are getting dangerously low. You’ve definitely had a good in month, Slàinte Vin 🥃
Impressive Vin - tough task to keep up with the reviews i think - fun trying though !! My ins - Circumstance organic single grain (Cask strength); Whitakers (first edition); Rassay (peated Rye); Wire works (madiera and Moscatel); Cotswolds (Amber Meadow); Cooper King (Embers). My outs - Cotswolds (peated & single cask madiera) ; Circumstance (single grain wheat & single grain estate) ; Wire works (bourbon); Rassay (unpeated chinkapin).
It is tough! For example, I was recording last night, and while recording my 2nd video the memory card filled up and it was getting late, so no I have no review for next monday! It'll all get covered eventually though
Nice mate. Question and maybe topic for a good video. what are your top 3 triple distilled malts then top triple distilled blend. I saw on a health and nutrition channel a good argument the triple distilled whiskey is a lot healthier. Regards Henry.
£125 for a 10yo! If you are around I'm planning to be at the Midlands on Saturday Vin. Looking forward to the Waterford biodynamic review. I bought the Strathearn inaugural release which is Maris Otter barley and was very impressed. Don't know if Douglas Laing will continue with this heritage grain profile, but this one was so malty, creamy and viscous.
Signatory Vintage = Good. Linkwood = Good. Sherry butt = Good. I mean, what's not to like?! (Channelling Joey from Friends there, for the non-90s kids!)

Rittenhouse Rye (bottled in bond) is my go to for mixing. Makes a fantastic Old Fashioned
I'm looking forward to delving into a bitb
What do you make of the 14 year jura Rye?
I just picked up that Rittenhouse recently. Never seen it in Quebec before, so I immediately grabbed it. Haven’t opened it yet; I need to bottle something down before opening anything else.
Nice! I haven't really developed an opinion of it yet so I will see how I go with it

I think I would be doing the same if we're doing that trip. I regret not buying more bottles when I came back from the States in 2019. Next time!
