10% has worked well for all the Wooden Wick FOs I’ve tested except for Peppermint & Cocoa. That scent was pretty weak so will try it at 12% next time. I also found the scent gets stronger if the candle is left for at least a week or two before burning.

As a hobbyist we typically use 2 teaspoons for every 4 ounces melted wax and that puts off a nice scent throw when paired with a wooden wick. We heat our oil to 185 let it cool to around 150 degrees, stir for about a minute or two, then pour into the container. This way produces a very nice scent throw, but we are worried that we're using too much oil & wasting money; however, it does not sweat at the top when we do it this way. TLDR are we using too much fragrance oil? 2 teaspoons for every 4oz melted wax?
Hi there! I’m using 7.5 oz jars as well as 12oz. I’m uncertain how much FO I should use for the different sizes. I’ve tested 9% in the 7.5 jars and the throw was okay. Could I use the same amount of FO in both jars? Help please!
So, a 10 oz candle would take 1.0 oz of oil? I thought it might take a few drops per candle. That oil isn't cheap, or at least where I have looked so far. Ideas please?

Your chart is determining the fragrance based on vessel size and not the amount of wax used. Doesn't the amount of wax matter? Sorry, I am a newbie and still learning....thank you for your help.
Hi! This will vary on what fragrance load you will like to achieve! Here is our fragrance percentage chart to help! makesy.com/pages/candle-fragrance-chart
You can use a small pouring pitcher to measure and pour your fragrance and you'll want to mix it in when your wax has reached its appropriate mix and pour temperature.
1 pound of wax makes at least 2 12oz. You add one oz of fragrance to one pound of wax. My best bet is weighing lil more than a pound and have an extra cup of wax Incase you need more, and add it before you’re out of the wax.
12oz x 3 = 36 oz. At 10%, take 36 x .10 (your 10% fragrance load) = 3.6oz of fragrance oil. 10% is your average fragrance load. Most waxes you can do less or more. Hope that helps. Make sure you are measuring everything on a scale.
Am I doing this right...8 oz. vessel equals .8 oz of fragrance (using 10%). 1oz. of fragrance equals 20 drops of the fragrance, so, I will need 160 drops of fragrance? I'm using the Virgin Coconut Soy Wax.
Great question! 10% in 8 oz vessel would be .8 oz :) We recommend measuring in weight instead of volume because it's most accurate! You can reference our video here: ua-cam.com/video/skstppP5jgI/v-deo.html

Are you supposed to measure the melted wax or wax before melting? Like if I have 1 pound of wax it melts into 1/2 pound of wax, how much fragrance oil should I be adding?
Measure the wax by weight prior to melting! If you want to use 10% fragrance load, for a 10oz candle, measure 1oz of fragrance oil by weight, and 9oz of wax by weight. :)
Depends on your % load. They recommend 8-12%. So if you want to do 12%, then multiply 8 oz x 0.12. That would be 0.96 oz of fragrance for your 8 oz candle.

@@makesyofficial I am wondering like the other poster ToBeAPearl above. Are the .3 oz fragrance bottles just samples so you can check the scent out? Based on the chart the .3 oz bottles wouldn't even be enough for an 8 oz vessel to get a 9 -10 % fragrance throw. Is this right?
People don't measure in percentages. Make the math simple. When I make paste wax for tools, I use 5 parts wax to 1 part linseed oil. Paste wax for finishing is 3 parts wax to 1 part boiled linseed oil. Cutting board butter is 3 parts mineral oil to 1 part wax. What is the calculation for fragrance. x part was to x part oil. Very simple to give us! you say 10%. So...that is 10 parts wax to 1 part fragrance?
Hi DC! So sorry if that wasn't clearly articulated. It would be 10 parts wax to 1 part fragrance. OR 10% fragrance, 90% wax. Thus a 10% FO load would be 1 oz fragrance to 9 oz wax in an 10 oz candle.
Your fragrance percentages are incorrect. If the vessel is 10 OZ (wax+frag), and you take 10% frag at 1 OZ (as in the guide), that leaves 9 OZ of wax. 1oz frag/9oz wax= 11.11% fragrance load in the wax. To correctly do it; (vessel oz) / (desired frag load +1, 1.10 for 10%)= amount of wax to use. (Vessel oz) - (wax used)= (amount of frag needed). This seems complicated, but it's not. deriving the formula: (wax used) + (wax used)*(frag load, like 10% or 0.10) = vessel oz (wax used) * [1+ frag load] = vessel oz (both terms have wax used in them, so you can put it up front) wax used= vessel oz / [1+fragload] => frag needed = (wax used) * (frag load) frag needed= ( vessel oz/ [1+frag load] ) * (frag load)
Is it incorrect, though? Your formula uses division to find a percentage, which is appropriate. The appended chart does not look to find percentages, the chart already establishes those. The missing variable here is the amount of oil needed to obtain the percentage. Your formula already has the amount of oil needed, the missing variable is the load. I do see your point, though, about the adding the fragrance to the overall weight, but I wonder if the author of the chart did not figure that in.
@@Eristhenes No the chart keeps it more simple, but that means if you take the 10% from the chart, you fragrance load 10% of the vessel volume. That would mean the fragrance load in the wax is higher than 10%. The comment looks complicated, but if I could write it down, it would look very simple.

This seems complicated, but it's not.
deriving the formula:
(wax used) + (wax used)*(frag load, like 10% or 0.10) = vessel oz
(wax used) * [1+ frag load] = vessel oz (both terms have wax used in them, so you can put it up front)
wax used= vessel oz / [1+fragload]
=> frag needed = (wax used) * (frag load)
frag needed= ( vessel oz/ [1+frag load] ) * (frag load)

@@maarten2803 Of course! We love to educate and make videos! Thanks for watching! 💗
Winner of a video, been searching for "adding fragrance to soy wax candles" for a while now, and I think this has helped. You ever tried - Cenadoelyn Candle Contemplation - (should be on google have a look ) ? Ive heard some incredible things about it and my friend got cool success with it.
Thank you
You're welcome
