I owned the G27 for years, and I just bought the T500RS. I am severily disappointed. For one the T500RS has just as much dead zone as the G27, so I don't know why people say otherwise. And my biggest caveat is during driving with the T500RS you continuously feel the wheel fighting to the left and right as it tries to give force feedback but doesn't know which way the wheel is turning (becuase your wheel is straight and not turning.)
I'm open to hear what others say, but I think the T500RS is not 5% better than the G27 but is 300% the price.

The G27 definitely seems to have a better price to performance ratio to me(having an H-shifter out of the box alone says it all), but I've seen people talking about the T500RS and was surprised by how many praised it(ISR guys even preferred it over the Fanatecs). However according to you that isn't quite the case. Why do you think the Thrustmaster is so well received and would you prefer the G27 over the T500? I'm currently a DFGT owner but would like to hear your opinion on this. It might be a help for my future purchase should I choose to make one :)

That sounds very VERY weird host47. I drove with practically everything on the mass market and I cannot see how anyone would miss that the G27 feels much inferior to the T500RS, more like a whole different league quiet frankly.
First of all if your Wheel has a Deadzone even similar to the G27 that is either a software calibration issue (driver or game) or your wheel has a defect.
Also the whobble on the straights should definitely not be there! Either you have a defect product or something is really wrong with your firm- or software.
Have you send it in already? Or did you find the cause of the problem like updating the firmware helped? Or did it stay the same?
Anyway what you describe isn't the way the T500rs should normaly handle at all.

I am curious about g27 just to try it out, but have t500rs and it feels alright to me. The feed back can be regulated I have it to the maximum. Naturally I had to get used to it and played around with the feedback before getting it the way I like but that's with ever thing. I do think it simulates reality pretty good.
The dead zone you are talking about is perhaps not the dead zone in the t500rs but the physics of how a (saloon) car and race cars reacts to steering / changing of direction. Gokart and F1 cars are very stiff and react very fast to change of direction but any other car reacts more sluggish to the change of direction compared to F1 or a Gokart. Im sure you konow this but any touring car driver will say, that in order to change direction, they start the steering wheel movement earlier to get the chassis moving in the right direction. The stiffer the car the less you have that sluggish effect. Gokart is excellent example of direct movement its light and the frame is very stiff. To check if there is a dead zone on the t500rs, take a F1 car in GT5 stop somewhere on the track and look at the front wheels then start making left/right movements with t500rs you will see there is no dead zone.

I just ordered a G27 on Amazon for 209$ plus tax after mulling over what the hell to do for over a month now.
Yah, I was considering the Thrustmaster 500 rs, and Fanatec and after
reading far too many horror stories from BOTH on customer service and
reliability of those units.. yah, upgrading from a MoMo to the G27 was a no brainer. I could afford the others but the Thrustmaster with the proper wheel accessory addon to fix the stupid paddle shifer situation and the seperate shifting unit, ..total cost was around 900 dollars. That is F3king insane.
Total increase of more than 3 times cost. Yah, I saw the reviews the thrustmaster was tempting, but no way it can be THAT much better for me.
I'd gamble it if THrustmaster didn't have such a bad warrenty and customer service reputation.
From what I can gather, Fanatec has worse reliability than Thrustmaster so...
Yah, only one choice left. hah.
      Great review in the video.

correct - but thrustmaster make a deal with sony with the ps4 - and so a lot of people must buy this "not so good but expensive" hardware.
A shame for us human - this political dealers.
I like very the G27 with the mods here from youtube, brake - mod and sequentiell - mod.

Why so bad?, it is a good value for the money, i have one since six months ago and works like the first day, obviusly the g27 not is at the same level of the thrustmaster t500rs (the only wheel really worth it of thrusmaster for me), or fanatec, but is good.

Only 3 months?, omg...what do you do with your pedals? xD, i don´t know but my wheel run fine, i admit i am very careful, keeping clean the pedals and the wheel and no overpowering the FFB, i don´t like the FFB to strong, in any case if my wheel died before 2 years i have warranty.

Excellent honest review. I have the G27, and like you say, quality is excellent (although the H-shifter feels like a toy), but the low max wheel rotation speed is a problem with drifting and spin recovery. For regular, controlled driving, it is not bad though, and for the price is good. The pedals are easily customizable too (upside down mounting like in a real car is easy, springs can be replaced with load cells and variable rate springs, pedal heights adjusted, etc.).
I like the look of the Thrustmaster, with the big wheel and fast turn speed, and the desk mounting system looks better (most force on the wheel is downwards, and the upward wobbling can be fixed with some blocks or something). I have a Thrustmaster flightstick, and I can say they make excellent products (good reputation), vs Logitech going down the drain somewhat lately.

i replaced my t500 with a logitech g27, (t500 broke and customer support is WANK), all that said, im glad i made the change, with an hour messing with the feedback setting and i got a spring Nixim spring upgrade kit, full kit and tbh the g27 has a far more realistic feel, might upgrade the wheel to something larger, easy done though, i would recommend the g27 over the t500

A good and informative video, thank you.
I was recently looking through Gumtree local sales and noticed a T500RS for £250. I became curious as to how he could justify that kind of money. I'd never heard of the wheel until today! After a little Googling, I noticed their about £350 new. I have both, a g25 and g27 by pure luck, the good and bad sort of luck. I hadn't used the g25 for over 9 months, when I tried it, it seamed it was broke. A dim green light and the fb was ticking very slowly to the left with no response to the PC, so I purchased a g27! I've since fixed the g25 after I found an in depth guide. It was dirt on the motor. A common problem if their left, I read. I found both wheels excellent with the g27 winning only over how smooth it felt. Yes, it has slightly better fb and shifter (even though the g27 doesn't have a sequencial lockout on it) too, but not to a degree it warrants paying more again if I could have fixed the g25. It does seam the T500RS is a better wheel due to a highly responsive force feedback, and the peddles seam to be a winner too. However, I can't justify buying any of the above new. The two I have, I bought secondhand, and I consider them to be a ridiculous amount of money to part with. If your the type of driver who only plays for a once in a while blast, and if your honest with yourself as to your abilities, then times that with how much you actually enjoy driving games. Then ask yourself, shall I buy a £30-50 secondhand wheel instead before deciding?
As to each wheels abilities, well, I go by my own abilities first. I am at the higher end of the driving online table. Ranked consistently inside the top 10 worldwide on all the top driving sims. If money is not an issue in any way, then my post is not applicable. If it is, as I'm sure it is for most, and your good at the driving sims, and you've not yet bought either of the above, then go for a secondhand g25/g27. I can honestly say, I'm just as fast with either, with only a small amount more joy coming from the G27 due to how smooth it is. Yet, joy is rendered almost a non existent in the heat of online competition. Adrenaline kills that :-)
As to a dead spot with the g27 that some folk are rambling on about, I've never come across it. Both mine are 100% spot on. Maybe its a driver and/or update issue, with game and/or wheel!
Thanks again for you insightful review.

Just watched another video comparison which showed that the G25 actually had a better variety of feedback variances. Watching this video, and one thing you notice straight away is that the G27 is actually mapping the movement of the wheel in the actual game. The T500RS is actually not mapped realistically, and is turning much faster, and with far more rotations than the actual wheel in the game. Seems to me like the feedback is actually unrealistic relative to what is actually happening.

    • @Kill0rbAg
      @Kill0rbAg 10 років тому

What? I believe your thoughts on how ffb works is a little wrong. ;)
First of all the video you saw didn't show that the G25 has more variations in ffb than the t500rs because they played two different ffb demos.
The variation of ffb is NOT determined by the wheels ffb engine but the software in use (meaning the game) since the game itself just sends signals to the wheel to either turn right or left in certain intervals with specified strenght. There is no "inbuild" software that says: kerbs! Rumble now in this way! But simply the game telling the wheels what to do. That's why the effects in games differ from each other.
Also regarding the mapping: The visual you get from the virtual wheel turning has nothing to do with correct mapping. In most games it is (visually) set to 270° or less while your wheel can turn up to more realistic 900° or even 1080° if you want them to. You can change that visually in most good simulations though so the movement of the wheel ingame and your own matches again. Again this is not dependent on the wheel you are using. ;)

The G27 is "Good enough" for most people. I wouldn't settle for much less, it's nice having the 6spd H shifter and clutch pedal. There are plenty of budget mods available to correct the poor feeling of the pedals. The force feedback might not be the strongest, and the wheel is quite small, but it's still 100 times better than anything cheaper than it.

I just bought the g27 3 days ago. Nr03 and gtr2 are the sim i use. The t500rs, i don't like it aesthetically shitty rubber and plastic, bad shape, too many bottoms on the wheel looks like a big joystick. G27 has 2 ffb engines and i think it's better to balance the effects. While with a 65 watts industrial engine maybe it's too much in all one big shot. For sure the t500rs has a wider wheel but although on the g27 u can install any wheel or mod u want. At the end the t500rs is one of those things i'd buy just for whim and give a try, having money to throw away.

Dear customers, thrustmaster is trying to get away from their responsibilities about their products even thought the warranty is still valid. On september 2014 i bought a T500 RS and four months later it stopped working properly. Not only the company didn't solve the problem but also insist on telling me i should contact my retailer, who merely sells the product, made in China and sold in Brazil, and has no responsibility for any problems it may present. Considering there is no technical assistance in Brazil, the company should replace the damage product for a new one, which they refuse to do even after many emails sent.

The Thrustmaster also think the store should exchange it , but Brazilian law only responsible for the store only to the period of seven days , moreover they do not have the steering wheel. After my warning by social networks , which has been my only instrument I see that other consumers have passed or face similar problems . I will continue my fight while you can possible warning to consumers. A big hug and thank you once again your attention.

LOL i have had plenty of experience with Logitech and been pretty unhappy most of the time.... I will say the speakers I have had lasted me for over 7 years now and sound absolutely excellent.
But mouses and keyboards and what not.. I have had issues....

While this are my thoughts too I don't see a problem in comparing them since other ppl want to know the differences. I just find this video very lacking not going into any details whatsoever about the difference in ffb.

So which one is better in terms of realism with the gear stick shift? If I'm not mistaken I think I'm correct saying that I know the T500rs doesn't come out with the shift stick but with it is it good?

I leave here my point of who had a G27 in little more than three years and change it to the Thrustmaster for lack of assistance from Logitech. The Trustmaster is different in concept and more realistic. The G27 is a toy compared to the TS500, quality of material is superior. It remains to see if technical assistance from trustmaster is better than Logitech.

    • @corsegerspwnd

i can say the assistance from trust is donkeyballs logitech has THE BEST assistance in the industry almost

Excuse, but it is not true! Pass more than three weeks to get answer, and when I got it, was to tell me something I already knew, it has no warranty! But no one informed me where I can send to repair.

Thrustmaster T500 RS is the best wheel. It's more expensive, and you have to buy extra shifter, but the build quality is much better than the Logitech wheels. Logitech wheels are ver loud, and they are not accuratley.

Hello @broburga, nice comparison you made there but I am still confused about which wheel to choose. As you can see in other comments the opinions vary and for now I had the G27 in mind due to price difference and also because it is nr.1 on a lot of review websites. But if on the other I want to have the best performance that reaches reality. Can you or anyone give a good advice ? Thx in advance guys :-)

    • @aboutkab

    • @kingsleyzissou1120
      @kingsleyzissou1120 10 років тому

He made his opinion obviously clear at the end of the video, the answer to your question is already there. Thrustmaster dominates in sim hardware, across the board, IMHO. They make products that last over time. Logitech is junk but is well reviewed because they have a big PR department of a big company that pays to be well reviewed, not because it's a better product. You get what you pay for. The only place the Logitech wheel wins over the Thrustmaster is on price, in every other area, it fails vs. the Thrustmaster.

i m looking in a wheel the g27 looks great but i like the t500 rs, it looks fantastic but is too expinsive, but the t 500 rs has a bit of delay compared to g 27. i think that the force feedback is the most important thing in a wheel and the t 500 is the best in that, a pro of the g 27 is that it comes whith a shifter, in he t500 u have to buy it separet
which one do u recomend for me? it will be my second wheel im not o professional in cars game but i really love them, im going to buy the project cars for ps4 so thats the game im going to play whith the wheel and i want to have the more realistic expierence possible
