Switching from G29 to T500RS

- Опубліковано 26 бер 2017
- Thanks to you and your views in the last month, I can afford this nice steering wheel. So I made this short video a week ago just before selling my G29, to show you my 1st personal experience with the T500rs.
Remember to consider that: the G29 is a medium range steering wheel like the T300, while the T500 is a high range steering wheel.
I need some practice, but I think I'll regain my full competitiveness soon. ;-)
Be ready: new video tomorrow! ^^ - Ігри
Bro, your foot work is super impressive! Looks like you actually have racing experience.
Best review i have ever seen, better than those other mainstream channels which never talk about the experience of using the product and just reiteratewhat they saw on the manufactures homes page
Genuinely one of the most interesting bits of music I've heard in a while. That was a trip
"the leather quality on both rims is same" - except T500RS has no leather, it is rubber LOL
If there's something I like about you and this channel, it's how analytic you are
Lion Fiq what are you? 12?
+Lion Fiq pathetic
Lion Fiq pervers kid
@viperconcept, hey man the th8 shifter sucks get a Clubsport Shifter and use the th8 as a modified handbrake. You'll thank me later~ =(
Nice video but you are wrong - T300 is the same or even better than T500. The T300 is newer, has newer technology etc. The only thing is that T500 has stronger FFB, but T300 has it more detailed and smooth like in real life, the countersteer feels more real. You can chceck on the internet comparison between this wheels and also with T150 (.pdf file) from Thrustmaster.
I have T300 with T3PA PRO pedals and TH8A shifter - they are really good! Pedals are 100% metal and it includes 2 brake mods - conical rubber mid and spring mod. Conical rubber is very good - feels great and real, improved my braking skills alot. Now I can race without ABS and don't lock my brakes :) I don't remember if it comes with T500 pedals also.
I reccomend to you the Wheel Stand Pro - I have the Deluxe v2 version and due to fact that it is a company from Poland it is way cheaper here compared to other products like Playseat. You also need all add ons like other stands (shifter mount and GTS plate for GT style pedals which I use - never liked the F1 style in other wheels, prefer more 'regular car' style, so GT is perfect for me) and it's perfect - stable, heavy, easy to transport.
EDIT: on T300 you have 28cm wheel instead of 30cm like in T500 but the rim is changeable - I will update with FXX EVO Alcantara 30CM rim from Thrustmaster soon :) Also the T500 has rubber wheel, not leather.
krystianraul791 and it's cheaper I have the T300 Ferrari Alcantara
This is where I aspire to be one day. Great channel and content. So much respect.
Nice vid Viper. Love to see your future videos with T500rs.
From my experience, the T500rs is a huge step up from the g29/g920. Its not even comparable
The longer shifter on the TH8A is meant for full on racing setups with a racing seat where the shifter would be placed lower FYI (also could be used for rally racing or just in general sequential shifting)
Congratulazioni per il nuovo acquisto viper!
Dude , Now my life addicted to your championships please give me more. Im about to die ;( ;( ;(
Me too, I can't wait.
But we must be patient until the next game update with the private lobbies. ;-)
viperconcept Forum announcement says end of April for private lobbies! Can't wait!
Brad Landers 😢 that is too far away
My opinion T500S wheel design looks better to me than g29 and the g29 wheel looks like it’s crowded by buttons
I have had the T500RS for 6 years, and was working superb the entire time! Last month I upgraded to the Thrustmaster TGT, and I am really happy about it :)
there is much difference ?
@@MARCO-rq2ph no TGT isn't that much of a upgrade...
If you plan on upgrading from a T500rs , The CSL Elite is the best choice
thanks for the video. it got me interested in wheels when i picked up racing again. ultimately i decided to go with fanatec csl wheels base and clubsport pedals. but watching this video again almost makes me want to go back on my decision.
4:06 That Heel-toe though...
DAMN
Owning a wheel u can learn to heel toe in like a week. It's fancy looking but not hard on a sim set up.
Lifetime G27: 10 years. TS500RS: 2 years
i can approve of this. my g25 died today after 10 yrs.
Update I rebuilt it, the shifter mech needed to be rebuilt. And it works agian
DUBMANS 10 years?!?!
I’m new to wheels but if mine lasts 5 I’ll be happy
@@Joe-nc3zb yep if you take care of it and don't abuse it, it can last longer. I rebuilt my g25 countless times and it still lives.
My g27 lasted 9 years and now I have a g29 so I can use it on my PS4 but still kept my g27.I had a t500 and the left paddle shift broke soon after.
My g920 2 years and dead 💀
I still have a G27. I don't have a stand for it, I just sit on the edge of a kind of cushioned table we have, the wheel in front on the cushioned table, the pedals in front of the table (I can still reach them with my feet that way) and the gear stick to my left, also not on a stand and on the floor because I can't fit it on the table with me, and also because even if I did have a thing to lift it up beside me, I can't switch gears with it. I am just not confident at all to do this, and I don't have a stand for this either, so it'll always tip over every time you want to switch gears. That's why whenever I decide to use manual for some reason (I basically only use automatic) I use the paddles. Never the stick.
i love your intro with the Viper, so cool
Hi there Viper! Thanks a lot for your tip! I'll try it out and let you how it works!👍
Is it worth the upgrade due to pain in my knees due to the logitech pedals being so small. I am about 6'3 and the thrustmaster pedals especially the pro look s so much better and more comfortable or is it the same size.
Douby Jocelyn mate, you can take the pedals out of the box on the g29 and mount them however you want. It’s what I did for my rig, I also swapped out the springs
I had the T500rs wheel back in the day. Omg it was impressive. One day I was wiping it down to clean... tried to turn on... pauses,
Half turn, pause, slight turn...dead. Omg that cost so damn much.
Oh no i am hurting from the sound of that waste of money
Yeah thrustmaster has reliability problems but when you get a good product, it's a GOOD product. Will last years for sure
I just bought this set today and I love it so far! This is my first ffb wheel and it may even be my last if games keep supporting it.
Just as a tip... You can move the pedal plates on the pedals using the other holes. I moved my brake pedal plate one hole to the right, to make heel-toe easier.
And to avoid the mounting issue, you could drill to holes into your wheel support deck and hard mount the wheelbase using screws (should be in the Thrustmaster box).
good luck with new wheel m8
I will happily take care of your g29
I love watching your actual movements irl, ia there any possibility that you will do that hand/foot camera thing more often?
Fantastic review. Thank you.
you have such a good music taste my man
The T500 looks better than the G29 in just about everything, except one thing: That stupid 8-way shifter. There's a reason no manual car has ever had such design.
Nicolay Giraldo I saw a plastic cover for the shifter that turns it in to the 6+r
Nicolay Giraldo I love my 8-way shifter
Hubert Kam i believe some corvettes have a 7 spd manual
Yep, never has it ever, ever been known... apart from the past-generation Aston Martin Vantage, the 991, the 992, and the C7 Corvette, to name just a few. Of course, it's completely stupid for a manual to have that many gears, but you're a little way off.
@@LAOrNoir Don't most car with that many gears have paddle shifters?
I like how you feather the gas pedal when braking and changing to down gears! Really neat.
It's called "Heeltoe shifting"

Its nice to meet another Viper fan!
Have you thought of attaching rubber grip pads to the bottom of the T500RS to stop it slipping?
Larry Bundy Jr or hard mounting
Or you can get the g29 and just put a small piece of carpet under the petal the petals have spikes under it to stop it from sliding
Funky music, had me headbobbing all the way through ;)
Nice comparation! Thanks
From all the sounds in the world you guys picked this one?
What music do you use ? it is too cool, shazam don't know ...
QUESTION: I have a G29 at the moment and am running DIRT Rally and WRC 7 on PC. I have the occasion to buy a T500 RS and am looking forward to it, but... But, will it RUN on USB 3.0, as my new laptop only has 4 OSB 3.0 ports?
It will work, USB 3.0 is a USB 2.0 but with better transfer speed. It matters only if you want faster reading/writing speed on usb drive or other memory devices.
Yes it will I use 3.0 and old when I switch racing with vr included ,vr use 3.0 for sensor so when I use vr I use 2.0 for wheel
All I can recommend is getting a decent wheel stand like the GT Omega. Because the thrustmaster mounts are the biggest flaw, and they are poorly designed and mine broke very quick lol. But a wheel stand is much more worth it anyways, not to mention you would also have a lower shifter position to make it feel better.
You can get a plate for the shifter that sits over the gates and makes it a shorter shift
Iam buying a used wheel here in egypt the T500 Rs is about the same price of a G29 infact the G29 is a little more expensive iam a beginner but I won’t be upgrading wheels until it is no longer compatible with my console (even then i might put together a decent PC) anyways what do you people recommend??
Buy the T500 if the price is similar, the T500 has faster and stronger FFB which gives you more detail of the car
Definitely the T500, much better overall
I got right into that tune 💃
At what point do racing cars start to have the F1 pedals in real life? Gr3? Gr1?
Question tho would I like to see is the g29 with the improved feel mod vs the thrustmaster
If you hold the mode button and pres right or left on the pad on your wheel the light wil start flashing if it flashes 5 times that means the your wheel wil now use 1080 degrees of ration 4 flashes i think 920 and so on.
Hi everybody. I have a g27 and just found a T500 F1 Ferrari wheel for sale without the pedals. Can anybody tell me if it works with the G27 pedals set?

How can the leather quality be similar on both wheels,I had a t500 and the rim is synthetic.
They are both ''genuine'' leather.
My T500 had a rubber type material on the wheel rim,not leather for sure.
The G29/G920 has real leather
Simracingnoob it sure does but the t500 sure doesn’t.

Just a little more context here: The price gap is huge compared to the G25/27/29 because of the shifter and Pro pedal set, which is sold separately. Those two add a cool 300 bucks OVER the 450 that the T500 costs, if you can still find one. My personal choice became the T300 with the TH8A and the Pro pedals. I have come to love them so much over my old G25. The one giant issue with ALL Thrustmaster steeringwheels has been the Y shaped clamping system, which they have been using for over 15 years now! And it sucks!! And just try to imagine what it once was like when the whole clamp, including the bolt and cap where made out of the same plastic!! They all snapped because the Y shape clamp doesn't grab to smooth surfaces that well, resulting in over tightening of the bolt and ultimately failure of the mounting system. When i switched back to Thrustmaster with my T300, i seated the base on the table the way i want to play with it, outlined the two clamp ends underneath the desk and drilled two spaces there, a few millimeters deep, where the clamp sits when mounted. Not i don't have to over tighten it and it won't go anywhere while mounted. Just a little tip from experience.
have you ever thought about getting a openwheeler racing seat? it comes with all of the materials to hard mount everything so you wont have to worry about your steering wheel moving. i have one and love the way it works
Why do you press the accelerator when your shifting down? Is that a good thing to do?
It's called heel-toe downshifting. Keeping the revs high (even when braking) is essential for being fast in a car. So he brakes with his right foot, presses down the clutch, taps the gas with his heel to rev the engine, and then shifts down a gear.
thats rev matching engine speed with the wheels instead of locking up of engine braking in low rpm.
It helps prevent wheel hopping in the rear end during heavy downshifting. If you’re a NASCAR fan, watch borris said foot work at Sonoma. It’s great
The others have said it's to keep revs up but don't really say why you'd need revs up: the car will jerk when you let the clutch out after a downshift if the engine and transmission speeds don't match up, hence the term rev matching -> match revs of engine to appropriate gear on transmission. If the speeds don't match well then they will balance out and slow/speed each other down/up, causing a sudden rise in engine breaking and a sudden change in wheel speed would potentially upset the car as Tyler mentions.
It's the same idea as why RPMs drop during an upshift, except you have to decelerate waaay faster than you accelerate so the effect it has on the car is magnified (entering a corner might downshift 2 gears all within a few seconds but you'll take much more time accelerating out of the corner and upshifting twice)
At a given wheel speed, two gears translate to different engine speeds, so when shifting down a gear, to stay at the same wheel speed and not upset the car, you have to manually bring the revs up to meet the lower head at the right speed for a smooth shift. If you don't, the rear wheels could lock up or you could shift the weight of the car unexpectedly and upset the balance through the corner
Just brought a G29!
I got my g29 for only $150 from a marine who only tried it twice. Still had all plastic on it and still works perfect! Gonna get the shifter soon, unless I ever find a thrustmaster at such a steal which probably won’t happen, nothing beats having a steering wheel and pedals that are at least entry level for serious sim racing for that price, only new stuff I found at that price seemed very low quality, no shifters, all plastic pedals and wheels, the g29 is a great first steering wheel for me!!!
Apex Animal just me carful with the Logitech force shifter. When I got it it registered wrong gears. Like 3rd registered as 1st and 2nd to 4th sometimes. I just opened it up(with a simple hex wrench) and used an air can to blow away from grease from the sensors.
I have a T150 and the T3PA pedals and TH8A shifter I love them
since you said the thrust master gear stick was to big, you could always put it lower like in a real vehicle
Bruh that’s not the point he’s trying to make. It’s not about the height of the shift unit. The longer the stick, the farther the top of the shift knob has to travel. Which means it will take longer to shift since it has to travel a longer distance
Alpha 1 then buy short shifter mod for the TH8A from www.ricmotech.com
0:16 no way music from lonney tunes space race ?!! a good game from my childhood days awsome :D
I had the same problem with the clamp, the rubber pads on the bottom of the wheel base became unstuck - allowing the wheel to slowly slide out of position. I would recommend hard mounting the wheel to your desk
For the slipping of the wheel during counter steer find some thin rubber matting stuff and cut it to shape so when ytou tighten the lower u bracket it doesnt slip anymore from the added grip under the wheel
Why did you switch first of all?
nice footwork dood
Heel toeing that shit better than I heel to my m3 irl lmao
Ciao, preferisci il feeling dei pedali del g29 o preferisci i t3pa pro? Grazie😊
Hey, does the T500RS work with Gran Turismo 5 and 6? Specifically, does the gear stick shifter work with the two games? Not sure whether to get this or the G27.
Yes it does!
T500 is better than g27 in every single way
I got a thrustmaster t 150. Im happy with it. Of course i dont play much either and im horrible probably with any set up.
You will get better eventually

Completely not worth the upgrade if you consider price and you actually got similar performance yet less on tighter tracks and the fact the shifters dont move with the wheel for me is a hard one to get over I remember that being an issue with alot of people I would stick with the 29 and save my money but good video man
For the pedals, you can put a anti-stress ball after the accelerator, it works better
Viper, have you found your setup for AC?
Mine are:
T500 RS Control panel: 900deg, all forces = 75%, constant and periodic = 100%
AC: Gain = 70%, filter and minimum = 0%, kerb and road and slip = 10%, gamma = 10%, filter = 0%, speed sensivity = 0.03.
Variable resistor (B25K60) at throttle paddle is dead - only 4 months (about 150 hours of simracing). Thinking about to replace it with Hall sensor (throttle and clutch) and pressure sensor (brake).
Force feedback i prefer Thrustmaster... for precision i prefer ten times logitech...
About the pedal, the pedal of Logitech G29, are included in the box with the steering wheel ( i don't know if they made a better one to buy a side ), but those pedals for T500 you must buy it completely separate and they are expansive too, if you buy the normal 3 pedal from Thrustmaster ( the plastic version comparable with the default pedals of Logitech ), you will find that the 3 pedals of Logitech are far more accurate and resistant than the normal 3 pedal of Thrustmaster; mine went broken after only 2 months that i bought it. And brake pedal of Logitech is amazing compared with normal 3 pedal Thrustmaster .
Thrustmaster 3 pedal can change position of the footboards , in Logitech you can't. About the shift there is no discussions, Thrustmaster win 10-2 but if you playing on pc , you can easily link a Thrustmaster shift on a Logitech wheel.
Anyway, i know that T500 has a better engine ( 2 engine if i understood good , when the T300/TX has only one , and mine collapsed after less then two years )... but since i went on Logitech after less then six months, i can really say that i will never buy a Thrustmaster wheel in my life.
It is absolutely not about the force feedback, it is about the precision and the feeling of sensitivity of this wheel, that since the firs minute ( when i tried it for the firs time on the shop ) made me feel in love...
Better than Logitech for me only Fanatec.
The thrust master is most probably better but it's like double the price (without the shifter) of the g29 with the add on shifter
@Vectrum no it isn't, but I didn't say that, I said 'is most probably better' which is perfect English
I got mine in a bid on ebay for $220 with just the wheel and no pedals second hand!
@@christopheroconnor4665 I got a pre used TX for 80€ with no pedal and leather edition wheel (yes a TX, not a TMX)

The problem with Thrustmaster is that it just looks ugly. Cover the shifter with leather and give the steering wheel a better design and then it looks much better.
@@333sge I agree... And I have a G29

Personally i think the G29 looks like a toy made from bad quality plastic while the T500 looks semi realistic and it looks like much much higher quality. Except for the pedals. I like the Logitech pedals better but that may just be the lighting of the picture.

@@M_773 whats the problem with thrustmaster
What car do you drive on a daily basis? :D
Hey Viper! About the rotation of the wheel, even if Assetto doesn't allow you to change it (and that's a shame...), you can still limit the rotation of the wheel itself by using the "MODE" button... at least on my T150 is like that... discovered that only recently, at 900°, cornering gets a little bit trickier, but catching the slides is A LOT easier than 1080°... like at 5:35 i can feel your pain there, having to countersteer that much and lift that much to save it...
you can change the degrees on the T500 on the fly, using the mode & d-pad direction. You can set it as low as 540degrees iirc, all the way upto 1080degrees. Its very useful for rally driving.
Martin Palmer i
yes?
The shifter of G29 look good
its a lot more realistic for more of a cheaper car, like a 240 or Skyline, but if your driving something like a Lamborghini or Ferrari you'll either find paddle shifter or a stick shifter like the T500RS
I know its not the case but driving a corvette when ur channel is called viper concept XD
Hello Viper! Congratulations on your channel! Very educating! I've played racing games on a controller for years, but a few months ago I bought a G29 wheel. I had never had throttle choking or stalling on controllers, but I've been experiencing a lot of that on Driveclub and less on Project Cars. Could you please explain if the problem is on driving mistakes or equipment related? Thanks and keep on racing and posting😀👍
That's a common problem of the Logitech steering wheels (G25-G27-G29) since they all share the same pedals.
The cause is the dust/dirt inside.
You have to disassemble the pedals and clean up everything (sensors included).
You'll find a lot of tutorials on youtube to do that, just remember to be extremely careful while cleaning up.
Here's an example: ua-cam.com/video/I96fkD36MKY/v-deo.html
Hey mate, do you have any problems with the t500 on the ps4? I heard it jumps out of callibration sometimes, do you get that on yours?
I have the g920 and I‘m pretty happy with it.
Geile Potsau mee too. it have only one bad thing and its brake bedal its so hard to put (sorry for bad english)
most games, you can remap braking to clutch, which is what I do. So either use clutch for braking, or setup the game to make braking more sensitive, and some games you can even configure pedals individuals, so that for example 60% braking input becomes 100% in the game. So you press the brake till it gets heavy, and its full on braking. Unfortunately, gran turismo sport doesnt allow you to use clutch for braking, and I dont know about forza, dont have it.
I also have the g920 and i'm pretty happy with it it works to do the braking things in forza horizon 3 xD

I started with AG27 Logitech which I really liked. I upgraded to the T 500 and at 1st was difficult adjusting just to the different size period of had this wheel for 2 years with 0 issues and I use it multiple times a week so as far as reliability goes I don't know why anybody would say anything
The T300's motor is faster, more smooth and it's brushless. It's not a 'medium' range steeringwheel. It's superior to the T500 at everything except raw strength. The TS-PC racer is the new wheelbase that replaced the T500 wheelbase. That has the same strength as the T500 but all the new tech (brushless motors, better belt drive , power delivery etc) the T300 has.
Not trying to be a dick about your purchase but what you list in the description makes it seem like the T300 is worse than the T500, which it isn't. Well unless all you care about it strength and not refinement of feedback.
Aside from that solid comparison ,despite it's age still a better wheel than the G29 in pretty much every way I'd say. I like how you don't shy away from listing all the issues you have instead of just praising it. I'm sure you'll enjoy your T500 :)
The TS-PC is stronger than the T500, not sure by how much however.
Fezzant, it's only marginally more powerful than the T500. Largely the same motor powering the system, just with the smoothness refinements from the T300/TX, as OP said
I know, but it is more powerful.
WickedDimension actually in terms of feedback rotation speed , t500 is faster than t300.. so t500 is better choise for drifters for example... but i also changed my g25 to t300...
Why???
if you are using the th8a on pc then you can just use that for anywheel. it connects via usb so it works for everything.
t500rs is a great wheel, i've had mine for about 6 months now and i love it. except for the fix system. i made a playseat to mount it to with bolts so that it is held strongly in place and that is much better. also because i prefer drifting over racing i have an adapter and a 350mm wheel to get a little more control and precision. do you have the brake-pedal mod installed for the harder brake feel? i kinda like it but its a bit too stiff for me. the pedals in general arent really to my liking, the potentiometers are a bit too low-tech for the price imo, i would've liked to see hall sensors instead since i've allready had to have the throttle and clutch potentiometer replaced due to malfunction after only 6 months!! with the pedal fully pressed it would only give about 75% signal, and after resetting the wheel it would be okay for about 2 minutes. :-( so i'm probably gonna get clubsport V3 pedals in a month or 2
Here where I live (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil), with the money to buy just the TH8A shifter, you can buy the g29 wheel and it's shifter XD.
So, unless there's a HUGE difference between them, I don't see a reason to spend 3x maybe 4x times the money on the T500.
Romulo Pedroso I had the t300, fanatec v2 pedals and th8 shifter sold it.... missed it and bought the g29 package for a 3rd of the price and love it. The Logitech shifter ist great but for casual use good enough.
That's what I also said, even in the UK the price for the G29 is £170 including shifter (bundle deal at PC World), the T300 with better pedals and shifter (T300 Ferrari Integral Racing Wheel Alcantara Edition + TH8A) would cost me £470. That's a £300 difference which is huge in my opinion for something which I will not use 24/7. If I used the T300 24/7 it would break in a week anyhow. I really do wish that the G29 came with a 30cm wheel. 27cm is a little too small.P.S. You can buy a mod for the shifter which makes it feel like a real car. I got mine from 3DRap.it but it does cost about £15 for a 3D printed piece of plastic.
I have to say R.I.P to my G29 Steering wheel. I have had mine for 4 yrs and used it 3 times. The steering wheel is now losing calibration. When you first turn on the wheel it does the Auto calibration it usually goes to the right and then to the left then back to the middle. Well my wheel does to the right and then gets stuck. I wish there was a rest button for the calibration
