I’ve always loved long drives in my car. My mom told me that as a baby whenever I’d wake up in the middle of the night, her and my dad would drive around for awhile till I’d fall back asleep. Watching this video at night really calms me down and I just suddenly feel at peace. I love Sharp Objects so much. Thanks for this

I just realised, Amma's euphoria with the pain meds...
Amma is for the first time experiencing painlessness. She's probably not very high, because since birth, she has lived in pain (poisonings, ear biting). Her brain, like mine, is scarred from pain. If you endure pain for long periods without relief (meds, inc. opioids), you can permanently alter your brain. Hopefully, her pain will stay at a low enough level for her to live comfortably. But, she might be unlucky, and find a trigger. For me, it was a worldwide shortage of the contraceptive. For her, could be simply an injury to her back.
Self-injurers are known to have higher pain thresholds than healthy people. Camille cuts, so Amma probably also has a higher threshold for pain as Camille does. Having a higher pain threshold is generally, a bad thing, because you don't get help soon enough for injuries, then your brain can scar and you've got chronic pain now (like me).

@@colaonyourface Yep, I know right, something so small (thank you for the empathy). I'd always had bad, but controllable period pain and was on the pill for that called Norimin (in 2020, there were no other meds with the same active ingredients). But the Australian Government were sexists and decided to tell people using Norimin to "interchangeably" use birth control (it's all the same shit right?). Appallingly, there were lots of generic 'Norimin's' around the world under diff brands, but they just needed Aussie approval & yet the govt took 6 months, in which time my pain escalated from occasional period pain to constant, severe, uncontrolled abdominal pain. I'm now dependant on high dose opiates (nothing else works) and am essentially house bound - I live in constant severe pain. It's not endometriosis, it's nerve pain, sensitisation. So, I'm buggered basically. Literally, I'm in physical pain because of sexism. It's all pretty infuriating, demoralising & makes you feel real vulnerable.
