RIP Jean-Marc Vallee. You created a true masterpiece here
I loved it I would put it second to true detective
This show is so fcking great and stressful at the same time
I agree.
True
You don't say
This is one of the rarest instances of when a tv adaptation is just as good as the book (if not better)
JMV is king
cause Gillian Flynn wrote it herself! Along with the director of pretty little lies, this was a perfect alignment of both of their styles.
i totally agree
Nah man. It is the best of the Flynn books adaptation but in the end I felt like some of those 8 episodes were wasted in a lot of meandering and mood-setting. And it never quite captured the book's ambience either.
This series is uncomfortably beautiful.
Sums it up perfectly! It makes my skin prickle with discomfort but at the same time I want to scoop it up and devour it.
@@ah-ie9dy Pretty cool that you describe it like that, isn't that how Camille describes the feeling she's getting rid of by cutting herself?
This makes me wanna re watch Sharp Objects. Such a well done Mini Series.
same thoughts, pal. i almost feel compelled to rewatch it and cry my eyes out as if the first time wasn't enough.
I’ve rewatched it twice and also read the book, after the first time I was hooked
Pomegranate Same here. The book is great as well.
@susan daniel I did re-watch it and found it even more interesting knowing all the secrets. I advise you to do the same.
i felt like the show was better than the book. it seemed rushed at the end.
great show..book was worth the read.
While watching this, my mom made me pause so she could announce that "Amy Adams is one of the best actresses nowadays, and dare I say it, better than Meryl Streep and deserves more." Like, okay calm down let's finish the episode.
And your mom is damn right.
Lmao
Camille's mother is the best portrayal of an archetypal witch I've seen in a tv series.
She was hilarious! My new favorite villain!
Never realized the genius that is the sound editing?? Top tier
They put so much thought and effort into an amazing soundtrack
Too true!
same
This has to be my favorite show, the editing alone is top tier
Thats what I said. Damn that editing is gold!
Exactly. Haunting yet beautiful
I watch this show every time I have a relapse. It makes me feel emotions and disturbs my thoughts when it goes dark and suicidal.
I hope you’re feeling better Valérie 🤍🖤
This show soundtrack is one of the best ever
This show is next-level cinema. Good to see the distinction between TV and movies is finally over. I much rather watch this laying in bed (as I did), basking at all the details for weeks than going to the theater for 90 minutes.
TV is much more daring than movies these days
@@kefkapalazzo1 are you sure?
Jean Marc-Vallee is a genius
I have to agree with you. Masterful direction!
Yes, watch the show with headphones or earphones on. You'll hear "In The Evening" in almost every episode. It isn't until the very end of the last episode, that they play the rest of the song.
Insane. When it played at the last scene it felt familiar i didnt realize they were foreshadowing the soundtrack right along w the plot.
I already rewatched it. Such a gripping, raw, intense show. Amazing. Amy is sublime in this. It's like Camille is her alter ego.
I love that the mystery is hard but not unsolvable on your own. The ending is so satisfying
@@morganmae8396 yes, it's a good balance between having strong doubts and hunches but not being able to quite put your finger on it.. Could've been Amma, mom or the creepy stepfather.
One of the best shows I’ve ever watched. I read “The Woman in the Window” book and apparently Amy is going to be the main character in the film adaptation, so I can’t wait. An amazing actress
it wont be long now!! ♥
i was really excited for this too, unfortunately it was quite terrible
I feel so bad that it is so FUCKING UNDERRATED! Looking at tons of shitty shows that has better ratings than Sharp Objects, it just breaks my heart. This series deserves attention!
HBO makes really great content, I always feel blown away. I wish they would do more books adaptations because sharp objects (and bll as well) is a very great job and I'm saying this as an avid reader who is very critical to literary adaptations
ดดกนัง
My Briliant Friend is another great HBO adaptation.
!!! i usually hate when i hear a book i like is being adapted bc there’s so much room for error and i’ve been so disappointed before but this and bll was so well done. i actually watched first then read and was blown away but now now i trust hbo deeply
Amy Adams' face is so open. You can see the subtlest emotions pass over it like a cloud.
Amy Adams is just so fantastic.
American Crime Story Season 2 had many great things, but during many portions of the show, it just drift away. It became like a CSI lookalike. Sharp Objects is way better and deserved that golden globe, so did Amy Adams. Amazing, honest and deep take on addiction, pain, childhood, trauma... And that only from one character. Incredible acting, music, editing... The whole town horrors gripped in the daylight. Purely art.
I agree with everything you said. But credit also goes to the director Jean-Marc Vallee. I loved the sense of dread and impending danger that soaked through the screen. And the way he made the town - a throw back to Southern Gothic - almost a character in the story in its own right. Brilliant!
And yeah, Amy Adams should have won all the awards for that work!
This series need to blow up again!!! So so good
I felt that muffled scream.
For me has been the best mini-series of HBO, I mean the cast, music, the edit, production, everything! Great show!
this show is a masterpiece, and it perfectly translated the book on screen
I'm surprised this didn't mention more about the sequence where they do molly! The music of "Can't Take my Eyes Off You" blends into both a fly buzzing when Camille and Amma are putting on their skates, and then when they approach the train tracks, its horn matches pitch.
This is for sure going to win a lot of awards, this is just the best show i have ever seen, so much thought and talent put into it
@Ari I havent seen that yet, ive been meaning too
best show of the 2018 and very underrated
A flawless tv series! Loved every second of it.
Me too.
Why didn’t they cast Amy as the adult version of the girl in the movie IT?
Brent Pilgrim, THAT’s WHAT I SAID!! she looks just like that girl. plus, amy is a much better actress than chastain.
I 10000% agree...it’s ridiculous...She’s clearly the first choice to play her...they can honestly pass for relatives...how did the director not at least consider her? Smh
she chooses better projects
Well. I think most of us fans wanted that too, especially since both are such talented actresses. I think it was likely scheduling, or fear of type cast (versus seeing a good thing and the advantage of that!), or Amy just wasn't interested or maybe even considered for the part. Early on during promo Sophia L said she'd love to see Jessica Chastain play adult Beverly in part 2, and I hear the director has worked with Jessica before, and obviously she's a red head and a big name she was a shoe-in. In terms of Amy Adams, this might not be exactly her wheelhouse, but she's so strikingly talented she'dve been great. I'm a huge horror fan, so no disrespect to the genre, it just almost feels a bit below her to do if you think about it.
Brent Pilgrim girl cast was quite tall so her adult self would be quite tall, Adams is shorter than chasteine
That scream in the dressing room will never not give me shivers. Holy shit, that acting.
How can something soooooo damn calm and quiet keep me on edge THE WHOLE FUCKING TIME
I got so obsessed with this serie when it was airing that I read the whole book before the show finished just to know the finale. Now they're my favourite serie and book.
It is Such BULL SHIT that Amy didn't receive an Award for this AMAZING and Stunning Performance!!!
Best cable drama of 2018, hands down. Hopefully Sharp Objects will be honored with Emmys for limited series, Best Actress (Adams) and Supporting Actress (Clarkson).
People said Sharp Objects was (or compared it to) True Detective season 1, and while 3 had a pretty solid start it begin to derail quickly, and didn't leave a lasting impression. Sharp Objects has been on my mind since I heard of it, picked up the book, and then watched the show. It's infectious, haunting, sad and somehow (unfortunately) resonating. it's stylish, and raw and horrific but also beautifully crafted and told. I really hope HBO continues to put out content like this. Maybe more shows should be mini-series, and not have the dreaded drag of too many seasons/plots/episodes.
I hear you, JaiProdz! This year we got Euphoria from HBO. It seems not too many outstanding shows, though.
@@lauraturdean8827 LOVE Eurphoria. Hoping in a next year's Westworld is fantastic too!
There is a lot of research done on scapegoating mechanisms but there is little one can do to prevent it from happening. I do believe making victims aware that there is nothing wrong with them as helpful. Unfortunately scapegoating is often a way for families or communities to hide problems that they feel cannot face. In adulthood, scapegoating became a way for adult children to hide the fact of family history of abuse by blaming everything on one member who seemed vulnerable for attack (and/or talks about it). Often the scapegoat is targeted by the siblings who were treated more favorably. In that way, the less favored sibling(s) becomes the punchingbag for everything that is wrong in the family. Family therapy can help but only rarely are the culprits and less affected family members willing to take part. So my focus would be on empowering the scapegoat(s).
this was one of the best shows of the decade! now realizing that the directing had a lot to do with it.
Please make the same video concept for Big Little Lies.
THIS IS A MASTER CLASS!!
Javier Lonú he did! its called “empathy and editing in big little lies”
@@niksvm6043 thanks 👍👍
"When's the last time you see a film without original scores, just the music the characters put up?"
Baby Driver, 2017.
But yeah Sharp Objects soundtrack is sublime. So is Big Little Lies. Jean Marc Vallee is gold
🙌Yes to everything u said ❤️ I just finished watching this. I actually said “Baby Driver” out loud when they asked that question!
This series was brilliant, and it’s so cool to see a deeper look into how the editing and style of the cinematography make it so immersive, well done!
Sharp Objects is an incredible miniseries.
Sharp Objects. İt is my favorite ones.
Such a well done TV show. The performances were amazing and it's great that they didn't change too much things from the book.
Amy Adams deserves that Emmy an honestly, I feel like Eliza (Amma) deserved one two because she portrayed her character flawlessly. I was actually scared of her.
Anyway, I highly recommend this show, it is a masterpiece
i actually had goosebumps....watching this...eeriely beautiful...
Cinema on the small screen. One of my favourite shows of 2018.
When you watch enchanted and then watch this... Amy Adams is absolutely amazing with all the different things she can do!
I loved how detailed this video is because not a lot of people comprehend how incredible this is and how its a masterpiece EVERY SINGLE DETAIL OF IT
Sharp Objects you will be always my favourite it doesnt matter how famous
Amy should’ve been grown Up beverly marsh. But this show’s ending had me shook to my core. I just couldn’t believe it.
Last summer was a bomb because of this
This summer is a bomb because of "Euphoria" 😍
And the summer before was Twin Peaks - the Return
Not even on the same level
@@ewelllle Nah bro. Euphoria is top notch too. Just the genre is different. It's one of the best in its genre.
I love this show and its cinematic aesthetic. So inspiring video with so many useful details. Thank you.
I like that Netflix and HBO have recognised the popularity of video essays
This vid just reminded me again of how much I love this show and why.
loved this. more of this content please!
Can`t believe I am watching this. I actually made a VideoEssay on this as my bachelor thesis. It`s not online yet. Great analysis, it`s such a great show that explores memory, trauma and it`s triggers in such a sophisticated way.
I'd love to see it :)
@@KwapiPL I`ll let you know when I`ve uploaded it. :)
Thank you so fucking much! NONE of the channels I follow ever did an analysis in Sharp Objects. They completely ignored it so thank you so, so much for giving me this video. It was beautifully done.
Sharp objects was an experience
This was an awesome season. Great show.
i miss this show so much, one of the best
time to rewatch this show again!
I have to rewatch this now.
I loved, hope they release a second season.
So late to watch this but
WHAT
A
SHOW!!
the music,edit, sound design...
By accident or unknowingly watched the first episode with headphones and I just knew it had to be like that for the whole season.. Amazing excellent show.
I didn't realize how stressful this show was until I shipped a couple in a different show and realized that people weren't watching them all the time so they could be together
Rest in Peace, Jean-Marc
In love with this tv series. Rewatching and reading the only 2 scripts I got (episodes 1 and 4). Really good video edited and narrated.
this show is so fuck*** amazing
Insightful analyses. Definitely will re-watch
This show is just astounding.
I couldn't even figure out the truth till the end. It's that good 🔥
Truly one of the best series I've ever seen & I came across it on accident. Amy Adams is such a good actress its unreal
the editing is amazing
Geez! This one was mind blown!
Sharp objects literally one of the best so far.
I love how Jean-Marc Valleé loved making Sharp Objects compared to Big Little Lies, and it showed. his dedication in making this artwork will forever be remembered. I've seen and loved all of his works he'd done, but Sharp Objects hold a special place in my heart.
this is such a deep analysis! great!
It’s so amazing how they translated the book into a tv show that absolutely lives up to it and even enhances it. That never happens and it’s incredible
Yea it's a great show, but this is great analysis from Michael Zak. You brought to the fore many things I missed on the first watch - the eyeline shot/reverse shot was INSANE and I can't believe that was lost to me before. Hopefully we'll see more stuff from you.
Thanks! Glad you found it insightful :) I've made a video on Big Little Lies, too
That was DOPE! A class!
This was a very good interpretation based off the book. I loved this.🙂
Well done!
This essay is exceptional!!!!
so EMMY what is your excuse???? GIVE THIS SHOW THAT AWARDDDDDD... AMAZINGGGGGG SHOW
What you said about how what the characters go through we go through, I have a note about the Music: I always feel taken out of hard hitting scenes with dramatic music.
Music only exist in your head. Once it’s out loud, it’s real. And Camille wants to pretend that did a while it’s not real. That’s what I love about it.
During music scenes we are so in Camilles head, or the characters heads even, but once that moment is done, we are pushed back into reality. Same way as when we are listening to music and someone starts talking to us. We want to pretend for just a bit longer.
SO GOOD
god i loved this show
This show is tottaly brutal i reccomend it
How is it possible that I've already re-rewatched (that's three full viewings) this show scanning for words I'd missed and just now noticed a new one in this video?
(it's at 11:18)
@Cypress Thriving What Secret?
I re-watch it two days ago after this vid I wanna watch it again even though I didn't rewatch any show again.
After this one I'll watch everything Amy is in .
I love this series so much I’d love to read the book
Wow. Just wow
The sound design is nice and all of you can hear from both of your ears... sadly not all of the world does. I have single sided deafness so I guess I cant fully experience the edits and sound effects. Oh well, truly loved the show, great work.
i wish they make another season!
One of the best TV shows in the history.
Very creepily familiar !! Sounds like my life.
I think I need to read the book bc after watching I still have so many questions. I want more flashbacks about Camille's past. I want to know who carved up Camille's back bc it is physically impossible for her to write words on her own back. I want to know about the murders....where were they stashing Natalie's body? how come their finger prints/dna weren't on the body bc they sure weren't wearing gloves when they murdered the girls.
That music that plays during "that" scene is just sitting in my brain. It's probably a good song but I've built up a physical reaction to it now, whenever it loops in my head I feel my stomach sink and my mouth goes dry. Beautiful, haunting series but I fear it may have done some damage on me 😓
that sound thing is more clear on Blu-Ray. guess you guys forget to render this video 5.1 channel.
also, this video is perfectly edited just like the show.
reread the book. time to watch this for the fifth time. ha ha
You're a genius!
Time to rewatch sharp objects ...
Emmy Adams is coming
I want Amy Adams to win, but i think Patricia Arquette is gonna win
Helena Cabello Yes! Yes! She deserves it!
I'm still waiting
