Sorry Sam, but it was Fleshers' Haugh in Glasgow Green where Rangers were formed when a group of young men mainly from Gairloch stopped to watch a football match taking place, they took a liking to the sport and decided to form their own team, they played their first game against Clyde (not the present day club) on 15th July 1873 using the name "Argyle", but they unanimously decided to adopt the name 'Rangers' which was proposed by the famous Moses McNeil who had been reading about an English rugby team of that name.
Love the video, followed and supported the mighty Gers since I was a wee boy growing up in the east end. Ibrox Stadium is spectacular, it's arguably the only stadium that looks like a 5 star hotel. From what may look like a fire station from the outside, the inside with the marble flooring, etc is spectacular. It's a special place and one that has touched the hearts of so many. I'm proud to be a supporter and always gives me a sense of pride on big European nights when it is spectacularly lit at night. Looking forward to the new building getting built next to it which will be used for conferences, museum, etc. That is something you definitely need to tour if you get the chance when it opens as it'll give you a much in-depth about Rangers history rather than just showing some shirts on display.
Spurs fans traditionally, or at least from the 1980s - often supported Aberdeen or Hearts. Why? Chelsea fans greatly tended to supporting Rangers from that period and Arsenal fans, Celtic. Although Arsenal and Rangers were closely connected in the 1930s. West Ham United fans seemed to prefer Celtic, too. 🍀

It has been my honour as a foreign student in Glasgow to live near this wonderful stadium. I visited it the first time for a university project and got to enter the grass, the bench, the stands, the press conference room, the trophies room, the changing room, etc for free. I would never expect that, not even in my wildest dreams. As an Olympiakos fan, I have every reason to support this team as your rivals are friends with our rivals. We eliminated your rivals in 1974. You also eliminated our rivals in 2008 on the way to the final. We are 6th in the world in terms of league titles and you are 1st. Also, we lost 21 supporters in 1981, while you lost 66 supporters in 1971. Also, we both had 10 years without winning the league. So many common things. I am so grateful to live in Ibrox!

You are correct, in that Rangers did not lose their trophies/history. Many Celtic fans and of course supporters of other clubs in Scotland would gladly have you believe otherwise for reasons of their own. However, there was a Scottish football phone-in show on the radio and one of the callers happened to be a man called Michael. Michael is a fully qualified lawyer and also a Celtic supporter, but Michael stated quite categorically that although the company that ran Rangers went into liquidation that doesn't mean that Rangers Football Club died or that the club's history ceases to exist. Of course this will be much to the disappointment of the many fans of other clubs around Scotland but this how it is and so Steven Gerrard is trying to lead Rangers to what will be the club's 55th league title.
Wee heads up for you! You should check out West of Scotland Cricket Ground in Partick, Glasgow. It’s where the worlds first international between Scotland and England was held. It’s obviously not a football stadium anymore so you would never have thought. Might be worth a visit!
Rangers secretary / trainer was William Wilton (not Walton) Vale Of Leven (pronounced Leeven) and Rangers didn't win the European Cup Winners Cup in our centenary year, we celebrated our centenary in 1973 and won the Scottish Cup beating Celtic 3-2. It's embroidered on our jerseys 'centenary 1873-1973' and there's a blue and gold shield on the west side of the Main Stand which says 1873-1929 the date of our formation and the date of the opening of the stand. The formation date mistake isn't your fault because Rangers stupidly changed it around 2003 for reasons unbeknown to all. Yes we were set up in 1872 and even played a match but we registered ourselves in 1873 and we stuck with this until around 2003. It will always be 1873 for me. Great video anyway pal. UK football clubs were running a tax avoidance scheme called an Employee Benefit Trust (tax avoidance being legal rather than illegal tax evasion) to attract top players. many top clubs in England used EBT schemes as indeed did Glasgow Celtic who paid 4 players in this way. Arsenal, Manchester United, Liverpool and others all used EBT's but HMRC hated the scheme and wanted to challenge it's legality. Previously, Arsenal had entered into an agreement to pay HMRC some of the tax that they felt they were owed and Glasgow Rangers decided to try to reach an agreement with HMRC to do the same. However, HMRC wanted to make an example of a top tier football club. It would have been politically impossible for HMRC to destroy the finances of a top English club (Liverpool and Man United had a total operating debt approaching £1 billion between them) so Rangers were a perfect target. They are a worldwide brand, they were the champions of Scotland and appeared in the Champions League every year, they ran EBT's and if HMRC beat them in court, it would serve as a warning to other clubs. The Scottish electorate didn't affect the London based HMRC so the decision was taken to make an example of Glasgow Rangers. It's been reported that the woman responsible for this was an Irish born Senior Civil Servant which unfortunately plays to the Irish/ Scottish/Sectarian element of the story. A long legal battle ensued and HMRC almost destroyed the club. Did Scottish football rally round? Did the authorities support one of their clubs? No. Shamefully, they did their best to try to put Rangers out of business. There is a book waiting to written about the EBT scandal and the attempts to destroy the Scottish Champions.
Desperate to big yourself up for anything. You just happened to play in the 1st season of Champ League games. So what??? zzzZZZZZZZZ PS How many of those trophies do you have in your cabinet?

There is a book waiting to written about the EBT scandal and the attempts to destroy the Scottish Champions.
wouldnt be hard to squeeze the full history of the club in 20mins... if you know what i mean.
Love the history lesson there buddy.... you keep up the good work and stay safe...

Cheers! Much appreciated!
We are also one of the founding teams of the champions league

Gers fan here! Great video yet again!
Awesome! Thank you!
I can't wait until the fans are aloud back in the stadiums mate, next season you could revisit all the stadiums again. WATP 55
Definitely mate, that's the plan! I need to get inside so many of the stadiums I've only seen from the outside. Also need to see more clubs in England, Wales and further afield
Love watching your videos about rangers and other Scottish teams when you were talking about the fans that comment about it’s a different rangers, you couldn’t have said it any better you’re explanation about how it’s the same rangers was extraordinary 🇬🇧🇬🇧
Thank you!
Great video, but you missed out the most important component of the founding of Rangers FC. The club was formed in 1872 by 4 teenage kids, aged between 16 -18, which is absolutely staggering. It is the script of a Hollywood movie.
The most important component of founding rangers is in the video, didn't you hear him say liquidation??
@@Harrow932 I think you're getting confused with the old Celtc Football & Athletic Company who died in 1994.

Great video Scottish football is littered with history and although belittled south of the border we’ve held our own against English teams. When we’ve met them in Europe and big names from down south always defend our game as it’s literally war every match
Nice video for me as a new fan of Rangers
Loved your recent videos! Unfortunately I support the green side of Glasgow who aren’t doing to well to say the least! Will you be doing a Celtic History video at all? Keep up the good work mate #RoadTo100K
Thanks mate! Appreciate the comment even as you're a Celtic fan! As you know I'm a complete neutral up here in Scotland and want to cover all teams. So yep, full Celtic video coming soon :)

No 1 you mean.
@@freddyferret2313 🤣🤣 how can you see looking through those tears?
Great video mate, however, few points ... "Rangerersers" lol .. "Vale of Leven" ... its pronounced 'Leeven". You also pronounced Jim McLean wrong.. Also, regarding the astro turf pitch, there is plans to build a hotel and visitors centre etc on the site, so it hopefully that will make you a bit happier. As for Rangers being a new club, the way I see it is this ... Fans who are not Rangers fans love to sing songs about games from the past, then in the next song, say they aint the same team... so which one is it? You cant have it both ways.
1st class video mate a lot of new Intel to me thanks , make more vids up about the Famous Glasgow Rangers WATP RFC
