    I watched this video today; thanks for saving me again! I am the caretaker and driver of the Model A sport coupe that the Museum of Science & Technology in Syracuse NY owns. It has an air filter. After watching this the first thing I did was check to see what kind it is, and fortunately it is a wire screen and not paper. Yes I do carry fire extinguishers. I am looking forward to watching your water pump videos, because the water pump on my "A" seems to have a lot of end play. A couple of local model A "experts" have told me that is normal, but it seems like a lot to me.

It's not just because you both help make it simple to do the tasks that that you document but the pleasure that you seem to get being sharers of simple tasks to keep model As going! You two are such an awesome couple! You really are!! Wishing I could buy a Model A too, but house renovations are taking all my money. Speaking of the heat. I live in NW Florida and I used to work on and around aircraft for 41yrs, and if I ever move, I have my eyes set on North Western North Carolina. Feels like Heaven there. 12 years ago, while staying in Ashe County,NC 4th of July week, the high only got to 78 or so with cool nights. I enjoy watching you and Paul. I have not worked on a Model A for over 50 years. A high school buddy had one back in the 1960s. He completely disassembled it and rebuilt everything. I remember going to his house and there were parts everywhere. I spent 45 years in the automotive repair business but the oldest thing I worked on was a 32 Plymouth. I have worked on several antique tractors.

    Tina, years ago, my wife and I were driving our, non Ford, 1929 when we were rear ended by an inebriated driver. He shoved us toward 2 telephone poles. Then he hit us again and flipped the car into ongoing traffic. My wife wound up going into our shock-trauma unit and I went to a regular hospital. My wife, the accident investigator, and the physicians contribute her living through the accident on the old car. A new car would have crumpled around us and squashed. The investigator testified to this in the trial. So, your feeling about the safety of old cars has merit, sometimes!

    Well you might remember this, as I have mentioned it in previous comments, I have a '63 Massey Ferguson tractor that has a 4 cylinder Continental engine. I have replaced a lot of the electrical loop, (i.e. coil, spark plugs and cables, distributor, rotor, points and condenser, starter solenoid, voltage regulator, safety neutral switch, etc...). I'm having issues with not getting it to start and I know the starter needs work on it, but it may be to the ammeter. I'm going to check into it, that may cause me some issues, it is the original, so it could be the problem. Your funny Model T, saying for Paul to tell his friends to shut their yaps, I enjoyed yours and Paul's reactions. Thanks for all the info, I hope you all have a fantastic evening and a great week.

    Great job Tina! I'm so glad to see that your good health has returned! Our prayers for your recovery were answered.
    For Paul: My 29 Tudor's horn would not work when I bought it. The previous owner told me that he never could get it to work so he wired in a new horn button and attached it to the steering column. It was one of the first things on my "To Do" list when I began the sorting process. I could not get continuity through the wire from the horn button to the little brass grommet at the other end of the horn rod. I noticed that the little connection grommet is a two-piece, crimped unit. I had continuity to the first part, but not to the second part of it. I flowed a small drop of solder at the crimp where the two pieces are joined, and that cured the horn problem. It works great now.
    Maybe this will help someone.
    God bless you both!
    Keep up the great work guys!

    Paul, this vid. reminds me of several things. I had a 1965 Chevy S/S 350, 4 spd. Ran hot a lot. Couldn't figure it out. So, I wanted to install two ped cocks. One on each side of the lower black. Well, as I removed the first plug, waiting for all the hot water to come flying out at me. To my surprise, nothing, not a drop. After poking around in the hole, I found casting sand. The other side also, no wonder the engine ran hot. I told my two daughters about under the hood. What things were and where things were .I said to them I don't want you to do the oil changes or the tune ups but to know how things are done. If a mechanic says that the muffler bearings have to be replaced, RUN, DON'T WALK TO THE NEAREST EXIT! haha.

    As far as talking about getting that radius ball squared away, I just went through this recently myself the only way we were able to get that done was to use the original sponge. Or the piece of felt, whatever. But we were able to do it with one of the stick magnets you know the ones that telescope out with the magnet on the end. We were able to fish it down in there and then turn it while pulling down to get the rod through. There's no way we could have done it with the new piece of felt. Not with the engine in anyway

    Paul & Tina, Thanks so much for another fine video. I do have a carburetor question. I know you probably have more questions than you want, so answer this if you like and have time. Thanks in advance. My 30 coupe engine dies when I get off the throttle quickly. From what I have read this problem appeared when Ford switched from the double venturi to the single venturi carburetor. The solution to this problem was the introduction of the brass secondary well. I remember also reading that the double venturi ran better at slow speeds and RPM. I wonder if there are any double venturi carbs with the brass secondary well? This could have happened during a transition period. I am in the process of going through one of the double venturi carbs from my collection and will install it when completed. Hope this solves the problem. Do you have any other thoughts on this subject. Hope you both stay well. Carmen

    Hello Tina and Paul. This is Phil Brennan from Staten Island, New York. Thank you for your videos. They are both helpful and enjoyable. I have a question regarding the use of the General Motors 6 volt positive ground alternator that you have suggested for use in the Model A instead of the original generator. I too like to keep my 1929 Town Sedan original with few modifications and agree that the GM alternator is a worthwhile modification, along with the few other mods you have accepted. I have a problem however with the look of the GM alternator and was wondering if you are familiar with the Powermaster 82006 PowerGEN Positive Ground Alternator specifically designed for the Model A. Its an alternator that's housed in a generator "look-a-like" case. It is more expensive at around $350 vs $230 for the Nu-Rex GM style, however it doesn't hurt my eyes as much. I'm running one and it works well.

    Unfortunately the only lasting solution for the Burtz quality control issue may be having the green blocks shipped here and having the precision machining completed in the States. This situation is not unlike the experiences of a local sail designer/sail maker, who partnered with a Chinese sail sewing shop. The Chinese shop was able and often would produce a high quality sail. And mixed in with this quality product was junk, product which could not be ethically delivered to a customer. Ultimately the business relationship was cancelled. It seems to be a cultural issue more than anything. Chinese companies have the ability and often do provide quality product, however it seems there is little ethical or moral obligation to do so. This is something which I experienced working with and in other communistic based/led cultures. In my experience, larger US companies will have an onsite presence at a manufacturing facility for somewhat obvious reasons. Something out of reach for many small scale contracts.
    China bashing - No, simply a reality which may be an unexpected surprise. A cost burden which must be factored in like any other production cost. I’m excited with the Burtz engine and may pull the trigger when things settle down. I don’t really need one, but it could be fun to play with. Here’s hoping.

    • @Modeltshinn
      @Modeltshinn  Рік тому

      It’s true unfortunately and if things weren’t so expensive here, all products could be American made just as it should have all along.

      Myra, you nailed it, as an expat who has spend a lots of time in Chinese factories, they are very good at making / copying designs at a value; however, often without the on-site expertise understanding of critical factors (like Paul stated .005” off CL bore) can lead to potential disaster. I agree with Tina, wish we could bring back to USA however this is often not possible as unfortunately we locally have lost a bit of manufacturing ability (block casting) compared to model A era.
