Imagine if there was a place where someone was giving out ten real dollars to everyone who came by to devalue the american economy. You can complain about it, but you also would be stupid not to go get 10 dollars (or keep going back to get 10 dollars as much as you can) .

Just few days ago, he has the gall to return under a new discord account and had the gall to ask for keys on my 2nd game. I practically told him to piss off.

I STILL think this system can be useful.
I follow curators that relate to a specific thing.
Ex - One tells if a game has Denuvo on it. One tells privacy. Other how bad the microtransactions are in a game. Other about cut content.
There's niche stuff like LGBT info or HardcoreGaming101, which is all about ye old retro games.
This all really helps in navigating the pages.
The backend of this explains so much though. Why it is so highly exploitative.

I have a curator, a big one (bigger than that one on the video) with 553 reviews that I made with my real and genuine opinion (some of them with videos linked) ... I realy hate curators that don't curate, that copy any text from internet or make sh*t reviews like "yes or no", "nep nep nep", "my name is captain sheppard and this is my favorite game" ... but no one can speak for every curator... If you exploits the curation system, you can't tell about everyone, this corruption is yours and yours alone and my audience always thank me about my honest game tips.
Its hard to find new good indie games on Steam, these games don't have space to grow and I do my part recommending them after doing the right thing, that is the simple way:
    -earn the game
    -play the game
    -review the game
I know your channel for a long time and used to watch your videos since I didn't even had a channel... and I have only one thing to say:
If you don't have any subject to make a good video, just don't do anything... its better.

OMG WOW! I'm sorry GaminTaylor but you might not be honest in your reviews but there are plenty of curators who are, including my own. I put a lot of effort into my reviews and they are always honest and informative. I think that is the least a developer can expect if they give you a free game. I think it says more about your character that you follow these practices. I mean it all comes down to honesty and integrity doesn't it?
For example, you say and I quote "I accept every game I am offered, and why wouldn't you?"
I only accept games I am going to review, and if I know I will never play and review that game, I send it back to the dev.
That is a choice I have made. Your choice is to steal the game and put in minimal or no effort.

@@GamingTaylor Of course it matters mate. It's sad to see that you have lost your ways. Just because lots of others aren't doing it properly doesn't mean you have to. It is good in a way that you have highlighted the problems, but it would be better if you were part of the solution rather than the problem. Maybe you could send your video to Valve and show them the sort of thing that is going on, or start a Steam group against these practices for example. There's plenty that can be done. The curator system shouldn't be used like this as it ruins it for genuine curators 😒

My main problem with curator reviews is that they're almost always mindlessly positive. A Hat in Time's Seal the Deal DLC gets tons of well deserved negative reviews & even a lot of the positive ones are conflicted but the curators praise every little thing about it or just don't mention any of the bad parts in the first place.

I have mixed feelings about this video as this guy is basically telling us about how many people he's scammed for free keys, and this is really not ok because it both steals from indie developers who are often struggling to make money and even worse wastes their time by forcing them to double and triple check whether key requests from press and streamers are legitimate, time which they could be using to make games... However, putting this information out there may prevent others from falling for this type of fraud so that counts for something.

Thanks for making this. It's pretty obvious that it is all BS. It's just odd that Valve allows it. Is it just laziness or do they benefit from it somehow?
Or maybe it was the pet project of someone at Valve and they just can't accept that it has failed?
So do you really even like indie games? What is the point of collecting a bunch of crap you don't enjoy?

I wanted to be a curator so I checked reviews, just saw fucking yes or no?? I wanna know actual crap about the game so I wanna actually give information to people, some reviews are good but crikey its hard, and the free game thing is is honestly ass, they should remove it, it would improve the curator system alot.

I have around 2k followers on my curator page and I've been offered 100 or so games, yet I've never accepted a single one because my reviews only consist of "I can confirm this game has tiddy physics". Just doesn't seem right accepting them for such low effort.

Even from a user point of view the curator system is pointless. The only use I can imagine is that curators collect certain types of games, but you can already search for those tags in steam. And the reviews themselves are absolutely useless.
The curator system was always suspicious to me, mainly because it was much more positive in general than normal steam user reviews. That's a problem, because Steam user reviews are already more positive than reality. Not to mention curator reviews are just too short to contain anything useful or nuanced, especially because you only need to scroll down a littlebit more to get much more information about a game from actual players.
