      Anything with a Subaru badge :) I own a x-trek and a outback. As a dad with 2 kids and a dog, the outback is probably the most under-rated family SUV. I've had mine for 5 years, and have never gotten stuck in the snow or while out on a skiing adventure!

    24:30 , if the 4 tires are NOT spinning, it is not primarily a tire issue, it is a slipping issue in the diff. Now as they dont have locking ability, it is a tune/brake issue: the computer is not braking the free spinning wheels so to have other wheels working too.

      Nice work, fellow Canuck! 2019 Forester Limited owner - US model, which is one step down from the top-trim illustrated here. Only things I don’t love are (1) the white headliner, which isn’t a great fit with muddy gear and dogs, (2) lack of AC vents in the cargo area for keeping dogs comfy in summer (major greenhouse effect with all that glass), and (3) the tires it came with.

  • @Nmarryat24
    @Nmarryat24 2 роки тому +1

    Your video was super informative, and it was great seeing how it performs off-road too. Around me there's mostly sand-hills and forest service roads, but it's good to see it handle well in mud too.
    I bought a 21 Crosstrek Limited back in December, love it (mostly). I do my "fun driving" on windy back roads and light off-roading. Hate the lack of cargo space and legroom, though. I thought it would be fine, but after owning it for only 8 months I'm starting to realize I wish I had something just a little bigger. Looking into trading it in for a Forester Touring at the end of the year, when APR rates will likely drop.
    Which is crazy to me, considering I'm upgrading from a 2 door, 05 Civic. But it's annoying that even though I had less space for people, I had 2-3x more trunk space than this Crosstrek.

    • @angusmacdonald5300
      @angusmacdonald5300 2 місяці тому

      I hear ya about the Crosstrek. I recently bought a 24 CT Wilderness in the cool army green color. It was a great little car but as I’m 6ft 3, but because it had the it cutout for the moonroof, the left side of my head only had 1 in clearance. That plus the chunky visor being so close to my left eye’s field of view just made it tough to get used to and I reluctantly traded it in for a new Forester Sport. Not as ccol as the CTW but it’s not bad and has heaps of room. Must better fit for my long torso.

    The weird "gearbox" will hold constant revs at around 2/3 throttle, especially if you select "manual" mode. Sorry for the air quotes but Subaru's CVT is an air quote type of "gearbox".

  • @sv1290
    @sv1290 3 роки тому +3

    Need to take in onto City streets and share about the CVT! 90% people buying so called SUVs never take it off road.

  • @HydraliskX
    @HydraliskX 2 роки тому +3

    Hey, I don't really agree that CVTs need to be at a constant RPM, especially within the max power band. Just because the RPM is changing doesn't mean it's 'simulating gears'. The only reason you need to be pegged at max power is if you actually need that power. Otherwise it's just a waste of fuel. The RPM is changing because it's trying to balance efficiency with power demand. So obviously in practice, this simply means more throttle = more RPM. I think people confuse that with 'shifting gears' too much. After driving mine for over a year, I don't think that's what it's trying to do at all. Switching between I and S/S# mode makes this behavior more obvious.

    • @bensontongue2183
      @bensontongue2183 2 роки тому

      Well, your belief notwishstanding, they do. That's the entire point of CVTs. They ideally are always letting the engine run at its most efficient speed.

    I own the current subaru forester and I love it. However I am not a fan of taking it into the woods for hunting. As there is too much light pollution coming from the vehicle inside and out.There is no way of turning the outside lights off except for pulling the fuse. Also Something like Saab's "night-panel" would really be handy.

    In the UK the Forester is hybrid only now, so no spare wheel and the engine is only 152 bhp or something here. We get two models, and oddly enough, one has nicer wheels on the cheaper spec version. The styling is a bit fragile looking in my opinion, it doesnt look as tough as the older models. Subaru are struggling in the UK and Europe so they are trying to aim their cars at a wider audience to survive, and unfortunately this results in a softening of the brands image. Ive wanted a Subaru for a few years and now im in a position to get a new one this year, I really dont know if its what I want anymore. Im not keen on the hybrid for various reasons and would probably only go for the Outback as its a 2.5 non hybrid and could see it lasting me at least ten years. Thats the idea until electric cars have advanced enough and the infrastructure is in place to make them practical for everyone.

    I've had my 2021 Forester since January of 2021,and I am pleased with my purchase.The biggest complaint I have is the gas rating the government ( and I guess along with Subaru ) is way off,I have roughly 16xx miles and as of yet have not even gotten 26mpg's.I followed the manufactures break in recommendations.The vehicle has been on several short road trips ( varying the speed so as not to have it on one RPM for any length of time )the longest 130 miles ( after the recommendation of not driving at a steady speed until there is at least 1000 miles on the odometer )and even then with some city driving I only managed to squeak a mere 25.5 mpg's the vehicle is rated 26-33.I called the dealer and spoke with the sales person and they said"wait until 75xx miles and then you will see a difference in your mpg's".I have had other new cars and right out of the box they gotten the mpg's listed on the sticker,has anyone else experienced this same scenario?I really don't believe the BS the sales person handed me,and by the way I am a very conservative driver.

      @@spol1622 Yeah, sucks that they put in CVT in all of their cars. I would have preferred a manual, more control, better towing, and they last forever.

    Good informative review but would recommend getting a tripod. The camera person made me a little nauseous while watching.

    You called out my main complaint which is the seat is too damn short. It only covers 60% of my lower thigh. The outback had the extender that you can manually pull out, the forester does not. For this reason and this reason alone I will just not even consider it... too bad cause it checks all the other boxes.

    It irradiated me when he said it doesn't have enough storage. I'm a pack rat and it still has enough storage for me. Also, pointing to the passenger air bag and saying it should have storage there is , well.... must I really explain the stupidity of that thinking.

    The power is OK on test drives but add in the family and luggage and the car is noisy and very underpowered. And, if you travel in the mountains, the power is simple inadequate.

    The best thing about Subaru is that All their vehicle comes standard with AWD. Toyota 4Runner you will pay the price extra for having 4WD.

      Design is fine. I'd want a manual transmission though and be rid of some of these annoying as hell safety alarms, and auto stop/start.
