What weight should it be? % of bodyweight?
6-8-10 lbs. medicine balls are usually a good choice. 12 lbs. if you can handle it. A lot of times, any heavier than that starts to make the technique fall apart. With these exercises, as with any, the quality of the movement is better than using something heavier.
