You know what also did its job well? The Alpine Wall, it was able to stop De Gaulle and his gigantic ego and superiority complex (common trait amongst Frenchmen) who wanted to annex the Italian region of the Aosta Valley, during the brief and often forgotten second battle of the Alps, the French managed many importante achievements, as you said, they got beaten up by the exhausted German-Italian forces, and even managed to annoy the partisans so much that they decided to unite forces with the Fascists (only time during WW2) just to repel the French back into baguette land, of course Mr. Charles was butthurt he couldn’t get his moment of glory, so he cried to the US to give them that part of Italy, reasonably, the US answered back that the French should learn to take their places, and if they kept acting like the brat they were they would have lost their territories in Africa, only then the French did a favour to the world and finally decided to shut up and accept they only “won” WW2 thanks to the Allies, and had less than no voice at the table.

So, if Italy focussed entirely on Africa and replaced their Timid commanders with aggressive go-getters, they could've been a real major combatant in the war. Instead of the hapless joke they really were.
The problem was they still believed and used WW1 tactics. Heck, winning in Ethiopia made believe they were still effective (same happened in with the Regia Aeronautica) while in reality they were fighting an undersupplied and weaker army
You know, when your commanders are made of nobles, people with a political liason, generals that only learn in accademics and not on the field and the political clime make you lose your job if you do something you shouldn't have done... there were no go-getters in the army. The german had a more freedom to manouver, a commander could try to take initiative on his own and not get punished, in italy was not possible.
Italy’s problems in Africa weren’t so much a matter of men or weapons, but of supply. Graziani stopped in Sidi Barrani because he lacked the means to supply his force through the long desert trek. Ironically, Italian numerical superiority worked against them. The logistics just weren’t there.

1:49 If I am to recall Carl Schmidt, the reason the Germans or at least that one particular party UA-cam would smith me for saying consider not just the Italians but Hungarian, Romanians, Bulgarians and others was his Concept of the Political. "The specific political distintion to which political actions and motives can be reduced is that between friend and enemy" (Schmidt 1932). According to him what determines a friend or enemy is their interests and how they align with your own and your people.

@wills4615 it's funny you say that because he wasn't even leading the March on Rome, he prudently stayed in Northern Italy so that if it failed, he could have packed and run. "Fuck it we ball" but are the others that lose their skins.
Mussolini's main blunder was how he thought Italy was at the same level to other great powers (i.e. Germany, UK, France, USSR, USA, and Japan) when Italy certainly was *NOT.* He should never tried to compete directly with Hitler/Germany.
That is disadvantage among axis they even communicate each other they own lead disasterous if german inform italian then italian never new front and hemant have communication japan then japan never decorar war on usa and usa never jump into ww2
I'm glad that the video pointed out the underlying tension between Mussolini's fascism versus the Moustache Man's National Socialism. Italy and Germany had a rocky relationship during the inter-war years, contrary to popular memory of their alliance in the Axis. For example in 1935, when questioned about Germany's anti-Semitic policies by his advisors, Mussolini supposedly laughed and said: "Anti-Semitism? Only blond-haired, blue-eyed idiots worry about such matters!" Mussolini, in 1934 at a speech in Bari, even ridiculed German race theories and dismissed the Germans as being uncivilised compared to ancient Roman civilization. He declared: "Thirty centuries of history allows us to look with sovereign pity at some Germanic doctrines from the other side of the Alps, sustained by the descendants of people who did not know how to write.... At the time when Rome had Caesar, Vergil and Augustus!" The alliance between Germany and Italy only solidified in the leadup to WWII, but it was more of an alliance of convenience against common enemies rather than true ideological conviction. Source: Mussolini and H***er - The Forging of the Fascist Alliance (Christian Goeschel)
The funniest part of Mussolini jumping into WW2 June 1940 when France was on its knees: Italy's entire merchant fleet was not ready. Out at sea, the Brits captured a majority of Italy's ships. Italy imported most of what it needs so, they had desperate rationing and food shortages and industrial shortages when the Axis were WINNING.
Now that I see the missed opportunities the Italians had I am surprised they didn't hang Mussolini early.Love the video, and music especially drum bun music
Mussolini power base was rock solid after two decades in powers. It's amazing how he threw everything in the drain when "doing nothing" would have been his simplest yet best move.

Also I love it how at the 55 Days in Peking literally pretty much the only time in World history was the actual Earth United Under one banner to fight against a common enemy as well! :D
To put it simply, Italy was unprepared for the war it found itself in, and as a result, it was entirely reactionary rather than proactive. Italy's initial plan might have worked if it had gone as intended, but no plan survives first contact with the enemy. The failure of that plan-mainly due to the inability to make a significant material contribution to the fall of France and thus secure any substantial gains-combined with Britain refusing peace, doomed Italy's efforts. Italy was not equipped for a prolonged war. This initial failure left it constantly playing catch-up, initially lagging by one or two moves, and eventually falling even further behind with moves like the Greece fiasco. It had to be bailed out and was all but carried by Germany. However, once the North Africa campaign failed, Italy had effectively lost the war, as it was too far behind to recover. Germany struggled on, carrying the Axis as far as it could, but there was only so much it could do.
There's an error at 10:11. I guess you wanted italy to say "mine" as in "they belong to me" but "miniera" means mine in the sense of the place where you extract minerals. 😂

39:20 generals just like any type of soldier tend to less aggressive tactics when the morale is low. Which thing can have a knock-on effect to the troops.
32:39 ahaha classic british explanation of why they occupied crete: "so that they can go and fight on frontline while we swiftly grab this for ourselves"
It's nuts that in between the world wars Italy may have been the most prepared for war and yet allowed the other powers to blow past them. They also then failed in every other when the military went into practice
the intro was funny, but to be completely clear: it was France, and specifically Clemenceau, who wanted to cut germany into pieces. Wilson and Lloyd George were actually the ones tempering the French revanchism (not to say those two didn’t make their own mistakes during the conference, but specifically in regards to germany they were not the ones holding the saw).

You know you are not prepared for war when even a guy who made a 42 minute long video on why your entry into war is a disaster couldn’t even spared enough time to explain the sup par equipment most of your army have.
He mentioned the fact that their equipment was out of date and that they were not properly equipped multiple times my guy.
Thanks!
You are welcome
I'm french, I study the Italian invasion of France by the Italian in ww2, the maginot line did so his job there.
After the war we even claim some mountains and villager
It was just an incredibly dumb move from the italians

And potentially could’ve legitimately forced Britain into peace talks, again…
The problem was they still believed and used WW1 tactics. Heck, winning in Ethiopia made believe they were still effective (same happened in with the Regia Aeronautica) while in reality they were fighting an undersupplied and weaker army
They could've been contenders... instead of bums, which is what they were.
if they captured malta and allowed rommel to recieve supplies, then even that was a step up
You know, when your commanders are made of nobles, people with a political liason, generals that only learn in accademics and not on the field and the political clime make you lose your job if you do something you shouldn't have done... there were no go-getters in the army.
The german had a more freedom to manouver, a commander could try to take initiative on his own and not get punished, in italy was not possible.
i love that you added brazil in, who had a major job in the italian campaign
🇧🇷🇧🇷
Italy’s problems in Africa weren’t so much a matter of men or weapons, but of supply. Graziani stopped in Sidi Barrani because he lacked the means to supply his force through the long desert trek. Ironically, Italian numerical superiority worked against them. The logistics just weren’t there.
Nice. Love learning about history

To be fair, "mine" means both "mio" and "miniera" in english. Most likely an unfortunate misunderstanding by the translator.
Italy was honestly just being too cautious or too impatient. No in between
Mussolini's main blunder was how he thought Italy was at the same level to other great powers (i.e. Germany, UK, France, USSR, USA, and Japan) when Italy certainly was *NOT.*
He should never tried to compete directly with Hitler/Germany.
My Serbian friend can confirm that the portrayal of Albania Ball is correct.
This is a great video and I've shared it with my friends.
6:43 Oh, ……no……….😰
The Axis if Germany communicated with its allies:
That is disadvantage among axis they even communicate each other they own lead disasterous if german inform italian then italian never new front and hemant have communication japan then japan never decorar war on usa and usa never jump into ww2
22:23 I see that Helldiver skull...
Only blond-haired, blue-eyed idiots worry about such matters!"
Mussolini, in 1934 at a speech in Bari, even ridiculed German race theories and dismissed the Germans as being uncivilised compared to ancient Roman civilization. He declared: "Thirty centuries of history allows us to look with sovereign pity at some Germanic doctrines from the other side of the Alps, sustained by the descendants of people who did not know how to write.... At the time when Rome had Caesar, Vergil and Augustus!"
The alliance between Germany and Italy only solidified in the leadup to WWII, but it was more of an alliance of convenience against common enemies rather than true ideological conviction.

Beautiful, absolutely gorgeous creativity - thank you to you and your team for the work you put into these
The funniest part of Mussolini jumping into WW2 June 1940 when France was on its knees: Italy's entire merchant fleet was not ready. Out at sea, the Brits captured a majority of Italy's ships. Italy imported most of what it needs so, they had desperate rationing and food shortages and industrial shortages when the Axis were WINNING.
Italy shouldn't join world war 2. They're more competent being a neutral nation rather than an active one.
i dunno, its hard to beat an italian sub sinking a canadian ship only to find out 90% of the people on it was italian POWs

Mussolini power base was rock solid after two decades in powers. It's amazing how he threw everything in the drain when "doing nothing" would have been his simplest yet best move.

Also me and my dad love your videos! :D We've been watching them on our TV and love the history we learn from you as well! What will you do for your next video by chance? Also I love it how at the 55 Days in Peking literally pretty much the only time in World history was the actual Earth United Under one banner to fight against a common enemy as well! :D
You should probably try that on their discord
I really enjoyed the last vids bro good run str8 🔥
There's an error at 10:11.
I guess you wanted italy to say "mine" as in "they belong to me" but "miniera" means mine in the sense of the place where you extract minerals.

I am pissed that I don’t have my iPad to watch this on. You’re one of my favorite UA-cam channels and the fact that I don’t have my iPad to watch this on makes me mad because a whole whole entire universe and each time you post something and corresponds with the event that happened in my universe, and correspond with the event or correspond with something happening, leading up to the event like a war formation of a country or economic downtown. It makes me so pissed off and I literally have everything drawn out memorized in my head and I have flip clip that allows me to freaking draw it out, but since my iPad is broken for the time being don’t allow me to do it also thank you for posting. You have some of the best CB history content that I ever seen.

the intro was funny, but to be completely clear: it was France, and specifically Clemenceau, who wanted to cut germany into pieces. Wilson and Lloyd George were actually the ones tempering the French revanchism (not to say those two didn’t make their own mistakes during the conference, but specifically in regards to germany they were not the ones holding the saw).
