The song is a reminder to be humble. Nothing we do or build will last. So don't obsess over earthly success. Don't obsess about fame and reknown because no matter what, we will eventually be forgotten and nothing of us will remain. Don't be consumed by the hoarding of money and things because you will die and leave it all behind. No matter who we are... rich, poor, famous, unknown, powerful, helpless, brave, cowardly, wise, foolish, clever, stupid... None of that matters. None of that makes anyone better or lesser, greater or smaller. We are all mortal, and we should remember that at all times. Because nothing at all will change that.
Love this very poignant song. Do we have a philosopher in our midst? What we do does matter, until our Karma is paid and we have learned to LOVE. Then, we move on to ever greater modes of being.
the violinist was Robby Steinhardt who sadly passed away on July 17 of this year. Wayward Son is one of the most incredible songs written but Dust in the Wind is my favorite. I don't know if it's the message in the song or that violin. You're right, there is just something about stringed instruments, but violins get me right in the feels. You might have heard this song played on the tv series Sons Of Anarchy
@@allycatspreparedlife5313 He died unfortunately from acute pancreatitis....I guess they caught it to late and his blood had already become septic so he basically died from septic shock. The only reason I know what killed him from the pancreatitis is because I am a flight nurse and Paramedic and have been for over 20 years but his official cause of death is Pancreatitis.
I've had the extreme pleasure of seeing Kansas Live four times. They are one of the most unique and talented bands of all time. Their live shows are AWESOME. Steve Walsh vocals are always amazing.
The blond guitarist was practicing a finger picking exercise when his wife walked by and said it sounded like a hit record. This song was sooooo popular, you literally couldn't get away from it on the radio!
The lead singer is Steve Walsh. The violinist, Robbie Steinhardt (R.I.P.), was the band's original lead vocalist. Walsh joined as a keyboard player, but when they heard him sing they gave him most of the lead vocal duty, and Steinhardt sang mostly harmonies. On "Child of Innocence" Walsh and Steinhardt tag-team the lead vocals as well as singing harmonies. Other Kansas songs you might like are "The Wall" and "Icarus (Borne On Wings of Steel)".
MASTERPIECE! This band is musically and lyrically genius! The level of talent far supersedes a lot of bands out there for decades. By the way, your reaction to this video is priceless.! We love ❤️ you
This was the first recorded song i learned to play on piano. Was always one of my favorites growing up. Still love it to this day, decades later. ( i refuse to say how many decades 😂)
I was born in 1962. I saw all the great bands come in as new. We smoked good columbian gold weed and had a blast listening to all the legends as they came out. I was lucky to be born when I was. I got to see it all as brand new. Every single legendary band today was a new band that I saw and heard while getting high! Man I love the fact that I got to live at that time. No regrets.
The violin is what caught my ear on this song way back when I herd for the first time. This 1 of pops favs I can see him now sitting at table sipping on his Canadian host and water listening to radio singing dust in the wind slurred out lol oooo ooo oooo
60's % 70's music has the original beats, rips and blends, also came prior to todays movies and music you hear them in. Stevie Ray Vaughn Texas Flood- you will never see a more talented guitarist!
RIP Robby Steinhart, the original violinist of Kansas. He was the original vocalist for Kansas, before Steve Walsh joined the band. The two of them had similar, but unique voices that worked incredibly well together. Kansas played at my high school about two years before I started attending, before they recorded their first album. Kansas really impressed the band Queen, especially Brian and Freddie, and Kansas began opening for Queen, and that was an incredible show!
This song played on the car radio when I was on the way home after seeing my grandpa the last time before he passed away. I think of him every single time I hear it. ❤
I could imagine him standing behind a harp and rocking out like Reverend Horton Heat does standing on that old time bass pulling the dam string out like a foot 🤣 sparks⚡️ shooting out of his finger tips like Raiden
Kerry Livgren on guitar was sitting in his kitchen doing what he called "Finger Exercises" on his guitar, his wife said... That is very nice, you should put that in a song. The rest is legendary music history
More Kansas greatness: Play the Game Tonight, Hold On, Point of Know Return, Nobodys Home, Closet Chronicles, Song For America, Fire With Fire, Portrait, All I Wamted..... Really you can listen to their albums straight through and not find a bad song. True Musicians, Singers and Lyricsmen....
RIP Bobby Steinhardt. You are greatly missed. I found out back in the day that Kansas would be playig at the Date Festival in Indio California. I got my younger sister and my nephew and went there mainly to see them. They were just fantastic! There must be a special place in Heaven where all our wonderful singers/musicians are now. We have lost so many recently. It makes me truly sad. I will be homage to the Late Great John "Bonzo " Bonham on Saturday. It will be the 41st anniversary of his death.
I had tickets to see led zeppelin at the Pontiac Silverdome in 1973 or 75, early seventies. It was while bonham was still with us . It was 75 because i was 14 yrs old and stayed up all night to get tickets. I was in the first 20 or so. Had great seats and the day before the concert being young and stupid i let some guy con me with 2 ozs of columbian gold for my tickets. Biggest regret to this day. A bigger regret than having kids. Jk i hate my kids. I would have traded them but they weren't born yet and besides i was still a virgin. A guy i was shooting basketball with told me about the concert. They didn't come out to play until 9:30 but played until 1:30 uninterrupted. I was kicking myself and still am.
Kansas was my Dad's favorite band so I grew up on their entire discography.. which is a lot! They are indeed musically phenomenal.. But you should check out Point of No Return (their next biggest hit).. then maybe Miracles Out of Nowhere and Song of America!
Robbie Steinhardt (violinist with all the hair) recently passed away at 71. Great lyrics: "Nothing lasts forever but the earth and sky" and "All your money won't another minute buy."
It’s funny that Robby reminds you of Jesus. Their lead guitarist, Kerry Livgren, was on a long spiritual journey, hence the lyrics for the song. The inspiration came from his wife. Kerry used the guitar part as a simple finger-picking exercise and his wife suggested he make a song out of it. And a masterpiece was born! Their highest charting single. Rest In Peace Robby.
Violin Jesus - best laugh I've had in a while. In the mid 70s there were tons of bands helped that launched this big pop/prog rock sound: This, Journey, Boston, Ted Nugent, Cheap Trick, etc that somehow all were on Columbia/CBS at the same time. Every style in music engineered but there are those top tunes that own a particular era. And everyone has his/her own.
Some people like classical music, and I won't fight against them. But as far as music in the modern era, I feel like this is the best song written, period. The music is beautiful and the lyrics are perfect.
Strings go through my soul leaving my heart on the floor. My parents divorced in the 70s when I was around age 10. This song represented my emotions at the time. If my heart could have expressed itself, the lyrics and strings tell my heart's story. Thank you for your beautiful reaction.
Robbie the violinist was a cool dude. I knew him for a few years, then didn’t see him after awhile. I heard he passed no long ago…Kansas is a great band
Hey Van, Greatness here for sure. The lead singer;s name is "Steve Walsh" had some cool solo albums in a band called "Streets". Jesus on violin ... crackin me up!
It's interesting how you picked up on the spirituality of the music. Both Kerry Livgren and Dave Hope ended up leaving Kansas and eventually formed the Christian rock group AD. I think you would really enjoy one of my favorite Livgren compositions All Creation Sings. It has such a powerful message. God bless you.
Your not off, your just being you, and that's alright. Love your reactions, one of the best at it. Keep it up.. I can remember back in 1977 when I attended a Catholic High School and we had a Ash Wednesday celebration during school , as we walked up to receive our ashes this was the song they played. The priest was way cool and described the sentiments to this song as being appropriate for realizing that we are all but dust that returns to our maker. The ashes have biblical significance as a means of expressing grief, both in the sense of mourning and in expressing sorrow for sins and faults.
You know why that guitar riff in the beginning sounded so familiar ? because it's a guitar finger pick'n exercise that he was playing around with in the kitchen when his wife walked in and he stopped and she said what was that you were playing ? He said it was an exercise , she said no that's a song and the rest is history !
You also need to check out another one that we just lost and that's Charlie Daniel's, another iconic violin 🎻player, thanks again for another great job 👍you have done

Too sad. I had an uncle die the year this song came out and they played it then. Brings real meaning to the song for those that are at the wedding and this plays.
"You trying to say Jesus Christ can't hit a curve ball?!" - Eddie Harris (Major League) Your comment about Jesus playing an instrument brought that right back, lol.
“And all your money, won’t another minute bye”! That’s one heavy line!! Loved this song all my life!

That's buy not bye lol
There, their, they're. It'll be all right. @@bobsebring2819

This is when musicians had real talent they didn't have all these electronic sound enhancers like they got today
