Is Pangasius safe to eat?
Вставка

- What is the risk of consuming pangasius? A lot of claims made in Europe and the US state it is very unsafe. But research at Wageningen University and Research demonstrates that these claims are inaccurate. Instead of reporting the risk to human health they refer to general hazards associated with certain chemical compounds. For these chemicals to become a risk to human health we need to understand our exposure to them. And in the case of Pangasius the claims made do not reflect any risk to human health. Pangasius, we conclude, is safe for human consumption.

i'm happy i found this video. i was looking into panga filet because people around me said it was dangerous to consume.
i'm happy that some real trustable info is out there. i'm so done with all those food bloggers and their "health risks"
in the recommended videos right now are titles like "the truth about pangasius" and "9 fish you shouldn't eat"...

@@erwintan4746 Sardines are one of the most healthy fish, and even one of the most healthy foods to consume. They are lowest on the food chain and eat plankton, giving them very low mercury levels. Mercury can be very dangerous, especially for babies, so it's important to know what fish you are feeding your baby. I hope you and your child are doing well.

Now, Forward going the only Fish I will eat is "pangassius", why? Simply because Europe and America said I shouldn't eat them.
America literally produces the most toxic stuff and the general health of their populace speaks so much about it.
Thank you for putting this out! I was so worried about it after I ordered it online and then came across some articles. Turns out business and political 'sharks' were at it.

You have to remember that Pangasius is imported into your country and has been inspected and approved by the government, so food is imported much better than local food.

It's basa in Aus too, except when it's in imported products. The cheapest fish you can buy. I tend to eat salmon or some of the other varieties. Would love to get fresh sockeye (red) salmon, but seems hard to get. All the fresh salmon here is farmed unless you go and catch some yourself or pay a lot for custom source
I love steamed pangas.

is this fish the same as dory fish? I am trying to find alternate source of protein for my baby who is diagnosed of TB
It smells like shit and i never ate it. And this is what the EU says about it:
However, there are also health concerns surrounding it. It is mainly fished in the Mekong, one of the world’s most polluted rivers, where it is exposed to highly toxic micro-organisms and discharges containing heavy metals, plastics and pesticide residues, which is particularly alarming. Another cause for concern is the veterinary use on fish farms of pharmacological substances that are banned in the EU.
Studies and research have shown that this fish may therefore be dangerous, especially because of high mercury concentrations, which would make it totally unsuitable for children. Several large retail chains in Italy and in Europe have already banned the sale thereof.
January 2023.
So basically, make sure the fish come from a clean or safe environment. Or if you can, breed them yourself so you can control their environment.
Does anyone actually enjoy the taste of this fish? Weak, watery and almost slimy flesh. How anyone who can afford better would still eat this is beyond me.
I've wondered about this sometimes. So many people in Asia probably eat this fish several times a week if not daily and don't drop dead. Is it really that dangerous or are we Westerners just a bit precious...
No, I don't think it about being precious. People in Asia have probably shorter life time anyway, is it about being poor or bad food or multiple reasons. Probably many reasons there are even not investigated. Like India or China, their enviroment is so much poluted, and the air is very bad.
Asians on average live longer@@yannara
Thanks for this informative video sir, Greetings from India.
I love that its cheap and i like the taste! Better than other expensive fish...
Tbf every food item found in the supermarket including the ones being labeled as 'healthy' or 'chemical free' is toxic and farmed Pangasius fillet, like its salmon counterpart is no exception.
Super work; thanks for publishing, and for a different perspective. If your information is accurate, I had been misled; so much fear-mongering rubbish floating around the internet these days.

If the fish would be 3 euro/kg here, everyone in the netherlands would eat it daily. 3 euro/kg is really really cheap for us.

You know it is very sad that your video is saying that much poisoning substances are bad less is better, it is stillsafe to eat! These poisonous substances mean and prove that the water and the technology is not environment friendly or sustainable. So I do not understand your philosophie toward this contaminated fish.

This is crap.... you can tell by the way this is being presented. Just google the Mekong river pollution Vietnam where they farm this fish and the following comes up: "Vietnam bears the overwhelming brunt of the pollution because Vietnam is the last country where the Mekong flows, and all the rubbish comes down from the countries through which the river flows through (Dat, 2015), in a process known as “transboundary transmission” They're not denying in this video the various chemicals found in the fish they are just saying they are at safe levels.... safe enough so that you'll buy and consume enough of them to make them a healthy profit before you croak. This fish smelled strange and tasted strange and it led me here.
Believe it or rite now I am at Vietnam . And the company is just opposite of our company we're I work .. this fish company just import this fish it's a huge company. So ... let's assume it's perfectly safe for consumption.
The more important question is whether it's a sustainable and ethical industry?
If you go to RASFF portal, which is the European food safety portal and type pangasius in "subject"line (second line) of the page, you will find the European food alerts for panga...:) :webgate.ec.europa.eu/rasff-window/portal/?event=SearchForm&cleanSearch=1
The RASFF concerns itself with food safety/health hazards, but this was not really what I was asking.
... but thanks for the link.
It's not really a more important question. Cheap animal protein is almost never ethical and rarely sustainable. But there are people who cannot afford to care.
I don't eat river fish in the US so why would anyone to eat something from the nastiest River system in the world lol. No wonder cancer is such an epidemic lmao you people will put anything into your system.
Thanks. I always believe University research
Risk blah blah blah...
Let's not forget that if you choose to eat something "risky" and contaminated, it's not the only contamination you are getting as all of it is accumulative. So saying that you have to eat n kilograms of pangasius to get sick is irrelevant because we are constantly consuming pretty significant amounts of toxic chemicals or metals thus we'll see consequences of that sooner than we expect.
Thus 🥱🥱😴😴🤤 🛌 💤
You don't lnow hundi
This fish you can buy in TH. Good info I believe ...
Name of the fish, I eat today, maybe I die ;) ... Pangasius Fillet ; ( Pangasianodon Hypothalamus )
Is this basa?
If Mekong is dirty, how would the panga not toxic????? They use the water of Mekong right? Furthermore: what food they exactly use for feeding???
To answer this you have to be clear about what 'dirty' means, what the concentration of any contaminants are, whether these contaminants can be taken up by pangasius through the water (as opposed to feed or sediment). Mekong water may contain contaminants but at very low concentrations.
If the contaminants do make it into the fish then they have to again be at a concentration that can be detected or exceed safe minimum levels for human consumption. Our assessment shows that this has not been the case in studied so far, and the claims that the fish contain contaminants also do not (even if true) translate into a danger for human consumption.
The sector has shifted to using commercially produced pelleted feed, which is recognized as a huge improvement from using locally sourced 'trash' fish as was the case 15 years ago. There is no evidence that feed poses a risk of contamination.
Dirty means human shit, urine, drugs, washing powders, etc. Look at that water. I bought once in Hungary that frozen fish. It had a bad smell when we roasted it and was yellowish and very bad texture, because it fell apart despite the gentle handling. I do not buy this fish again.(pangasius) I await youranswer about the intensive feeding they use! What exactly the feed contains??
Yes! Safe or not, this fish is still a disgusting and horrible product to consume no matter how clever the cook/chef is.
Joe Tailor, it is not any more dirty than any discount/cheap mass processed chicken/pork/beef you find in a supermarket.
@@browngirlwhiteboy4043 I have some fish skin crisps that taste ok. I mean when you spice it up with egg, curry, chilli and salt flavour then there's no disgusting part to taste ;-)
