A few things should be added here:
    1. Always wear gloves and eye protection. Carb cleaner is nasty stuff.
    2. Only do this in a well ventilated area. Carb cleaner is nasty stuff.
    3. Use a softer brass bristle to clean the jets if there's a blockage (you may not need to use one at all), not steel. Steel can damage the inside of the jets.
    4. It's good to have a carb rebuild kit specific to your bike/carbs purchased ahead of time in case any parts need replacing. At the very least have some O rings/gaskets.
    5. If you're not familiar and comfortable with disassembly/reassembly of your carbs, only do one at a time so that you have another fully assembled carb you can reference if you're unsure. (assuming your bike has more than one cylinder)
    6. If you're still experiencing running/idle issues after carb cleaning you may just need to adjust your fuel/air mixture screws.
    7. Take your time. Trying to get it done quickly will only lead to mistakes.

I was going to say, you really shouldn't use steel wire to clean out a jet. They make tools for that, but honestly I have never seen a jet so plugged that sticking the carb cleaner straw to it and blasting it didn't fix.

    YOUR VIDEO SAVED ME!!
I'm VERY inexperienced, and have been looking for people to help me restore my dad's old bike (got it running, but the carbs were never 100%... Or 10% for that matter)
Your videos actually taught me how to *properly* clean my carbs (a lot of stuff I found were very vague or resulted in the youtuber buying new carbs)
    Thanks a million, Goldguy

Should be a crime to do this to a CB750. All they really need in terms of modification from their stock state is new handlebars, they look so much nicer and ride so much better that way. They used to go for under 2K in prime condition before the cafe craze now all you can find under 2K for a CB750 are these cafe monstrosities.

Unless it's only a 1-cylinder, always do one at a time so that you have a fully assembled one you can reference. Until you're comfortable with it, that is. And take your time. There's no need to be super fast about it.

Shouldn't you take out the diafragms and caps before you spray the carb cleaner, as it can eat away at the rubber. Also it's good to inspect them closely each time you clean the carbs. It saves you from future confusion

    • @GoldGuyRides
      @GoldGuyRides  6 років тому +4

Blake Brasfield carb diaphragms can stand up to carb cleaner, it doesn't eat them away. But yes that would be a good thing to inspect as well, if your diaphragms have leaks than it will cause problems. Thanks for the comment, good call!

So, dumping carb gas into a gold pan, lol, ... so you go out looking for flake? always wanted to try that. Just started a build on a 1980 CB750 Custom. It's been in a guys garage for near on ten years but turns over and is super clean. I got to the point in builds where I could take the carbs off a CB disassemble them swap internals and back on the bike within 20 minutes, not bragging and really don't like doing it, but sometimes it needs to be done. Great content as always.

Another thing you should do when cleaning your carbs that I neglected to include in my video is to check the diaphragms for cracks or holes, they are on the top of the carbs, opposite the bowls. Remove the two screws holding the top cylindrical cap off and carefully remove diaphragms and inspect them. If they are cracked or leaking, your bike will also run like total garbage.

isn't it convenient that you can't see the cellphone during reassembly and isn't it funny how he gets to the end of the video to roll it out and see how it runs and you don't get to see how it runs because all he does is stand back 30 feet from the bike while it's idling. So what am I saying? the whole video backfired on his ass because he put it back together and it didn't run right. He couldn't show you how it runs because it runs poorly because he screwed something up. He could have saved it by fixing it and showing it running right instead of making the ending so unconvincingly phony. This whole video is utter bullsh*t.

Or a ZZR 1100 Just to get to the carburetors, u have to take ½ the bike apart...

@@Pianissimo1970 yes getting the carbs off is sometimes 3/4s of the battle. It's a good video for what to do once you do get them off. Unless you get into soaking, ultrasonic cleaning etc.

Holy shit, this was the most half assed "like a pro" thing I've ever seen. No one should clean their carbs like this. Ever.
