      At this moment I agree. But I am stuck with an older, though excellent AVR-2309. Only 2K and suits my current TV, but I am about to buy a new 4K TV. Having something future proof (8K) can matter unless you are upgrading every few years. But how many people actually use the +9 speakers setup or a multiple lever speaker position? Virtually nobody I guess.

    Enjoyed the video, lots of good info, and I love that you had "chapters" marked in your video. After 8-9 years of loving my Onkyo TX-NR609, it's been having HDMI & power-off issues, so looking at my options for a replacement, and Denon is certainly at the top of my list.

      @@TechnoDad You need at least 48 Gbps bandwidth to support the full HDMI 2.1 profile. They capped the one HDMI 2.1 port at 40 Gbps. You will have to update once again. It's like the early days of 4k where chipsets lagged behind 4k media. Then to make things work, you had to either upgrade again or bypass your receiver or pre-amp and send video directly to your set and send audio via HDMI2 outputs for surround decoding.
      These 2020 models are still a day late and a dollar short.

    You keep saying there is only one source. In fact there are three, home theater PC gaming, Xbox Series X and PS5 will all be relevant sources that will be served by HDMI 2.1 in late 2020 or early 2021. Denon kind of dropped the ball here. 1 is better than none, but two at least would make more sense.

    HDMI 2.1 is really underappreciated because 48Gbps or even 40Gbps is an amazing way to future proof and I think 4k at 120fps with 3D audio and better visuals like Dolby Vision should be the high end standard. Quick question why are HDMI 2.1 ports being nerfed ? I appreciate your videos

    • @TechnoDad
      @TechnoDad  4 роки тому +1

      Great question Darius! I think it's because there are no 12 bit panels and so TV makers are removing those 8 Gbps as the current TVs can't support it. Since the TV makers aren't supporting it, then the AVR makers don't need to support it either. At least, that's what I think is happening here.

    • @WolfRathmAGR
      @WolfRathmAGR 4 роки тому +2

      My though is , you don't actually need the 48Gbps. You need only that speed if you have a display that support 444 chroma with 12bit panel. The average consumers don't have anything like that and there isn't a display on the market with 12bit panel yet. Correct m if i'm wrong. 40Gbps is just fine for everything.

    The Denon AVR-X2700H is suffering from eArc issues using eArc and a games console via eArc and sound mode selection. Not using bitstream, but LPCM.
    It only happens when the source is eARC (ie internal apps from the TV when eARC is enabled or using a games console via eArc). The Denon app shows Multi-channel PCM input, however, the output options are not the same when receiving multi-channel PCM from an input directly connected to the receiver.

    When using eArc on my TV connected to the Denon, the denon receives multichannel PCM input from the TV, but when I go to select a sound mode on the receiver, I only have a choice of multichannel stereo, stereo or DSur.
    Why will it not let me select a sound mode like Multichannel PCM? It should let me output the same format as what the receiver is receiving? Like Input-Multichannel PCM Output-Multichannel PCM.
    There is a clearly a bug with this receiver, that will not let me output Multichannel PCM as a sound mode over eArc.
    Input (eARC multi channel PCM):
    Output (choices are Stereo, DSur, Multi Ch Stereo):
    Can test this to see if they have been able to get Multichannel PCM sound mode output? Rather than Stereo, DSur, Multichannel stereo?
    I am sure this is a bug with the latest receivers? And needs fixing via firmware update.

      Stephen - Frankly Stephen I don’t think you’ll have to worry - it will be a long time before 8K becomes mainstream. You can barely see the improvement of 8K over 4K and it’s only available on TV’s larger than 65 inches. Below that size, the difference is really not perceptible to the human eye. I don’t really think it will take off in a big way, because the general public won’t see the need for it. It reminds me of what DIDN’T happen to DVD. When Blu-ray was introduced around 2005, it was generally assumed by the AV industry that DVD’s would die out over the succeeding few years as consumers all gravitated to purchasing the higher quality BD discs. However that’s not what happened !! To this day,15 years later, DVD’s are still selling incredibly strongly - at least on par with BD sales. That is the situation here in Australia, and I suspect it is the same in the US and the rest of the world. It just goes to show that the average person in the street, those non-videophiles, are quite happy with the average, SD quality of DVD’s !!

Also I mentioned the two ports because come December there is a high chance I'll get both consoles so right off the bat I won't have the full support of both without having to switch the cables. Not the end of the world but no ideal. The point is trying to future proof and alresdy, less than 5 months after the release, I'm already having to do workarounds with the product with current day devices.

      To be be totally honest, these new Denon (and soon Marantz) models don't have full HDMI 2.1 bandwidth either. The one 2.1 chipset port is 40 Gbps and so a partial solution. You need at least 48 Gbps for full HDMI 2.1.
      As for Auro3D, it is almost universally dead as a format. There are a handful of Blu-ray titles and a few music Blu-ray's from overseas that include Auro3D encoding. Concentrate instead on Dolby Atmos and DTS: X.
